{ practice match }
The week quickly went by, and before she knew it, the rivals faced each other. She watched as the two lined up against each other, smiling at the two. Amaya stayed and observed them from the door. Hinata exclaimed, seeing Kenma again, then of course, Amaya. The second year was started by the orange haired first year, then the smaller boy was barraged by questions from his teammates. All the players quickly got to know each other, at least a little. One player that caught Amaya's eyes was the other short boy from the Karasuno team. He had spikey, darkly colored and orange hair. The boy seemed familiar to her, yet couldn't exactly explain why.
After the net was set up, all the players gathered on the court. Amaya noticed that Hinata is playing center blocker, and the other short boy is their libero. She soon realized that she's still standing and sat down next to Nekomata. As the first set started, Karasuno gained the lead. Hinata had a crazy fast attack, which shocked everyone on the Nekoma side. Amaya was also preoccupied with their libero, the short, spikey haired boy.
Amaya looked over at Nekomata. Whispering, she asked, subtly pointed at the opposing libero, "Nekomata-sensei, do you know anything about their libero?"
Nekomata thought for a moment, then answered the second year's question, "If I remember correctly, he received an award for being a great libero in the Miyagi Prefecture. He attended Chidoriyama, I'm sure."
"Chidoriyama, huh." Amaya muttered, her eyes sparkling, "Maybe I should talk to him after the match."
Nekomata grinned at the team manager as she refocused on the match. During their little conversation, Nekoma turned the tables and gained the lead. In the end, Nekoma took both sets, ending the practice match. Amaya stood up and clapped for both teams. Kenma displayed a great amount game sense in the middle of the first set and onwards. Karasuno seemed crushed, Hinata and their setter more so than the others. After the teams met with the coaches, Amaya walked up to Karasuno libero.
"Hey, you went to Chidoriyama, right?" Amaya asked, tilting her head and looking down at him.
Normally, Nishinoya would've been rather sheepish around new girls, yet seemed unusually calm about it. Though, the libero was confused on why the manager of the opposing team wanted to talk to him. He nodded, "Yeah, that's right. You?"
Noya paused for a quick moment, realizing that Nekoma is from Tokyo. Embarrassed, he tried to cover it up, "I- I mean, uhh- what junior high did you go-"
"No need to worry, I attended Chidoriyama too!" Amaya exclaimed, cutting Noya off. She smiled at Nishinoya's attempt to fix his mistake. The small libero reminded her a lot about Amaya's childhood friend. Could it be..? No, she doesn't know which high school he decided to go to. Then again, she doesn't even remember much about him besides his personality. Amaya decided to introduce herself, "I'm Nakahara Amaya, what about you?"
"Nishinoya Yuu," Noya replied, nodding.
When Amaya heard his name, she took a moment to think. It sounded vaguely familiar to her. She went through her memories, examining them to the best and quickest she can. She muttered. She sighed, finding nothing. Noya looked up at the Nekoma manager, rather confused.
"Nishinoya, Nishi.. noya.." Amaya took a moment to think, leaving the libero in front of her waiting. Then, something in her head clicked, "WAIT-- YUU!"
It felt like everyone in the gym stared at Amaya due to her sudden outburst. Noya dumbfoundedly looked at Amaya, to which she noticed. "Yuu, it's me! Ama-chan!" She desperately said, "We went to Chidoriyama together..?"
Amaya sighed, sad that Noya wasn't exactly remembering. She gloomily crossed her arms, "Nevermind, you don't remember."
"No, wait," Nishinoya called out to Amaya as she turned around. She turned to face Noya again, awaiting Noya's reply. "Could you tell me a little more? Something that seems more rememberable?"
Amaya blinked, then nodded. "I moved to Tokyo after our second year. I didn't want to see you hurt so I never told you."
Nishinoya thought about what Amaya said for a moment, his teammates still looking upon the two. The libero then jumped up, exclaiming, "OOH! I remember you now!"
This notion startled Amaya and Noya's team. Yet on the inside, Amaya felt relief. She was glad that her old friend remembers her now and she smiled to show it. She wanted to hug Nishinoya but would it be too weird? Too awkward? Anxious thoughts like these made her next moves rather hesitant. Nishinoya grabbed Amaya's arm and dragged her towards his team. He introduced the other second year to his teammates, which they soon followed, introducing themselves to the now anxious 17-year old. She awkwardly waved at them, then was called by the Nekoma captain. Amaya said goodbye to the Karasuno team, then ran up to Kuroo. The two left the building and went onto the bus. The Nekoma team left towards Tokyo, but all that's on Amaya's mind is Nishinoya. She had her phone out, looking at the old contact which was Nishinoya's. She sighed as she set down her phone and looked out the window from the moving vehicle. The orange hue from the sun setting made everything a little more, aesthetic you could say. All in all, Amaya just couldn't wait until she could see Karasuno--more so Nishinoya--again and she knew it was going to happen soon. She could feel it.
