Chapter 8: Rivers of blood

As our journey continued we saw nothing but chaos's debri plague the southern side of America, there was nothing left to salvage, every house and cabin we had passed was burned to a crisp and those who weren't like us threatened to call us in if we didn't leave their land, but usually they reported us anyway. Soon people with powers were being hunted down like savages all over the United states, and one by one we were either stuck in asylums, that they now called CrossField containment facility, or killed on the spot for fighting back against the people hunting them down.

You would think people with abilities would have the advantage over people who don't but somehow the normal people have been able to keep up using new technology created by who else but CrossField's research department. The organization has gotten popular due to the latest outbreak of "evolved" they are heavily relied on to get rid of everyone of us and keep us contained so we couldn't harm the people, though I still ask the question which one of us is really hurting the other.

Our trip to Atlanta has been tough, really tough. We barley had a chance to rest nor did we want to, it seemed no place was safe. One day I had seen a little girl in one of the burnt cabins me and Mia checked out, her body was burnt to a crisp but you could still see her pokadot dress barley intact. Seeing that reminded me of Sarah, its been weeks since we found her and her family but their deaths still weighed on my head like a scar that wouldn't go away no matter how hard you tried to forget it was there.

We had finally reached Savannah, and though the journey was endless we didn't wish to stay there long. "Okay we're only here to scavenge some money for some tickets to Atlanta once were there we can search for Emily."

"If she's even still there." I mumbled looking around for people who looked like they worked for CrossField. Lately I became entrusting to every person I came across, its something that just happens when your constantly being hunted down.

"Come one come all, to a once and a life time event where your fortune will get told for free and if my predictions aren't true you get paid!" I seen a lot of people look over to the vendor yelling his business.

Mia grabbed my hand and rushed over, "Where are we going?"

"To get our fortune told duh, the likelihood that he'll guess our future correct is one and a million."

"Yeah but to know it's true you'll have to wait until it happens, this guy is a sham and I'm surprised he's dumb enough to not even attempt to make a profit off it."

"Who cares about the details." It was obvious Mia only wanted her fortune told, the money deal was just a bonus.

We walked up to the man in a flashy purple suit and lots of jewelry. He smiled at us and watched as all the people gathered, "Welcome, welcome one and all. I am Danny Myer and today I will show you your past, present, and future before your very eyes." He looked at me and Mia, "And as my very first customers I would love to say that it's absolute pleasure to meet you, Eren and Mia." He raised a eyebrow at us, "That is your names right?"

We nodded in shock that he somehow knew us, "That's right..." I said suspiciously. The crowd of people gasped in complete entertainment.

"You just came into town didn't you, off to Atlanta?" He asked. He shook his head, "No one told you did they?" I raised a eyebrow as he sighed and held his head.

"Told us..." Suddenly a alarm sounded and the people stopped and scattered to their houses. I looked around,  "What the hell..."

The man grabbed us, "Hurry this way." He pushed us into his store, there were nothing but statues and other supernatural relics from folktales inside. They were on every shelf which made the place look cluttered as hell.

"What's going on?" Mia demanded.

"Shhh keep your voices down will you." He took a breath, "I suggest you turn back, nowhere is safe anymore."

"Bullshit!" I grabbed the man by his collar, "You'll never understand what it means to be on the run, to see the horrors we have seen..."

"Eren..."

"Look...I know okay...I know..." I put him down and walked away.

Mia turned to him,"Look just explain what the hell is going on."

"I assume you know what happened after you two escaped, the CrossField department put out a search for you and well...they found more evolved all over. They put out a group of military officers trained by people that worked closely with you in order to rally then up but after seeing the scale of evolved in America the government partnered with Crossfield for their capture, study, and well elimination. Evolved soon seeked out a safe haven, they found it in Atlanta and the south."

"So what happened?" Mia asked.

Suddenly there was banging at the door, "Military, open up!"

Danny ran to the back and opened a door leading outside, "Hurry, get out now. Quickly before they find you!"

We ran towards the door, "How do we reach Atlanta?"

"Don't go there, it's pointless to try." He tried to close the door but I jammed my foot in between the door. He looked at me and I looked at him sternly, demanding a explanation. He sighed, "There is no Atlana Eren, it's gone."

"What?"

"There's nothing left, soon they'll find all of us and..."

"Danny Myer, open this door or we'll have no choice but to break it down!"

"If you want to see for yourself go to the railroad, follow it to the city. Be careful it may be still active, they use it to move the evolved they find hiding there." He turned back to the door, "Now go!" He pushed us out of the doorway without even using his hands. Mia and me looked at eachother as the door closed, it was obvious he was one of us, a evolved.

We heard the men bust into the house and loud mutters right before there was a gunshot and a loud bang hit the door. We were quiet for a moment before deciding to leave towards the railroad.

Eventually we found a abandoned train car, Mia figured out how to get it working and we went towards Atlanta. Once we got close, we were shocked and speechless about what we saw. Me and Mia jumped out and walked through the station and towards outside and it was at that moment that we stopped and looked out at the scenery that we had finally realized that in reality Danny was right...Atlanta was gone...

As we looked out at chaos; rubble, smoke, clasped buildings and rivers of blood, we stood in silence not saying a word and never making a sound.

??? P.o.v

"Have we cleared the city?"

I folded my arms and looked out at the rubble that was once Atlanta, "Not sure, but there's only a matter of time before the answer will present itself. There's only so long they can hide, the rest will find their way to us."

"Patience is a virtue sir."

"So it is..." I turned back to the yelling evolved tied up behind me, and shot one in the head.

I grinned and aimed my gun at the person next him. "Please...don't do this...please...I don't want to die..."

"Welcome to the fallen city." I moved my hand to the trigger, took it off safety and pulled the trigger.
