Chapter 40
Unknown-
I've decided to let you pick who's next
Have fun with this one, little snitch
I audibly gulped when I read the texts. I was so terrified I turned into a fucking cartoon character. Getting Dabi busted was serious shit, even if it hadn't resulted in anything. The cops were still involved. I dreaded who Shigaraki turned the target on, and the fact that it would apparently be my choice.
The text came in right after school, but by the time Sero was sneaking into my garage I was still rattled. When he walked in I quickly checked for any signs of unwelcomed followers.
"Whoa, why're you so paranoid tonight?" Sero asked as he took his usual seat in his lawn chair. He already had a joint out and ready, lighting it up before I could even close and lock the door.
I snatched the joint from his hands and took a hit before I replied. "Shigaraki is just getting to me a little bit," I admitted. A half truth, but still more than I'd said aloud before.
Sero just nodded in understanding and changed the topic. One of the best parts about smoking with Sero, is he will always listen, but only when you're willing to talk. He'd forget the conversation in a second if he knew that's what you wanted.
The rest of the night was uneventful. Sero only hung out for a few more minutes, just enough to finish the joint, then he had to head out. I'm pretty sure he had another date with the mystery guy, so I didn't try to stall him.
I locked up the garage and double checked every lock in the house. I may have been a little paranoid, but I felt it was warranted. Only after double checking everything was I calm enough to finally head to bed.
*****************************************
The next morning was boring. My phone was quiet, my house was empty, and I still wasn't sure what was going on with Eijirou and Katsuki. After our kind of fight the previous day, I kind of kicked them out with a stupid excuse about homework, and I was now avoiding them a little bit.
I ended up walking to school without even seeing either boy, which was a little odd, but I wasn't complaining. I made it to school just in time to meet up with everyone. I was only avoiding my boyfriends a little bit, which meant avoiding them one on one. We couldn't have serious conversations in front of everyone, so it was safe.
Class went by in a blur and lunch was normal. It was all so boring, I should have known it was the calm before the storm.
At the end of the day, we all piled into Ashido's very small car. Everyone was complaining about Eijirou not taking his truck, while cramming to fit in the cramped space. Ashido was driving, and Sero was curled up in a ball in the passenger seat, since his seat needed to be all the way up for everyone in the back. Kaminari was in the back, then Katsuki, Eijirou, and finally me, in the redhead's lap. It was probably the most awkward car ride of my life.
When we finally made it to the boys' house, we all fell out of the car in our rush to get out. After we all collectively caught our breath and brushed ourselves off, Eijirou spoke up.
"So uh, Sero," he called, catching the black haired boy's attention.
"What's up?" he asked, a little perplexed.
"Kat and I just have a real quick question for you," Eijirou explained in a tone that made me nervous. Why was he being so weird about it? "Come on."
Ashido giggled awkwardly as she looked at Kaminari and I, Eijirou already heading for the garage door. "That's a little ominous, dude."
"This is weird," Kaminari stage whispered to me as we followed my boyfriends into their garage.
I heard Ashido gasp as she stepped through the door. I stood on my tiptoes to try and see over her.
"Oh my god," Kaminari said in horror as we finally entered and could see what the big deal was.
My heart dropped taking in the scene. Both Eijirou's truck and Katsuki's bike were wrecked. Tires slashed, windows and lights busted in, paint scratched, they were barely recognizable.
"Sero," Katsuki said in a dangerously calm manner. Everyone stilled with the blond called him by his actual name. "Can you explain why the camera on the front of the house caught you, and only you, all night, walking towards our garage door, and then our shit is destroyed in the morning?" I could easily tell that Katsuki was doing everything in his power to not brutally beat his friend to a pulp right then.
My breath hitched as I realized what had actually happened. My garage door and Katsuki's face each other. The camera caught Sero coming to my place.
"You..." Sero trailed off as he looked from the ruined vehicles to his two friends. "You guys think I did this?" His tone was utter disbelief while he blinked at them.
"No," Eijirou said, his arms crossed over his chest. "But the video says otherwise, so I need to know why you were here for twenty minutes the night our shit got vandalized, in our garage that you know the code to."
Sero's eyes flashed between Eijirou and Katsuki, his face unreadable. "I didn't fucking do it, okay? Why the hell would I ever do that? You guys are two of my best friends and I know how much your truck and bike mean to you. Kiri, you're literally my ride to school, why the fuck would I wreck your truck?" he exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
"We know that, idiot," Katsuki snapped with a scowl. "So what the fuck were you doing here?"
It dawned on me then, what Shigaraki meant. I got to make a choice. I could either admit that he was at my house and deal with all those questions, or I could stay quiet and watch Sero try to dig out of this hole. There was no doubt in my mind that Shigaraki was the one who ruined their stuff. Just to create this situation.
"I was just helping out a friend," Sero said back, sporting his own scowl. He was just as pissed as them, I'd probably be a little mad if my friends were accusing me of this.
"In our fucking garage?" Katsuki asked, clearly losing his grip and fast.
"I was never in your fucking garage!" Sero shouted as Katsuki took a step forward.
On instinct, I stepped between them, a hand on each of their chests. "Both of you need to calm down," I said, trying to reason with them.
"So you just stood at the door like a fucking creep? There's a fence back there, there was nowhere else to go," Katsuki all but growled, pushing harder into my hand.
I froze at his words, because there was exactly one other place to go.
"Nowhere else but Izuku's garage," Eijirou pointed out, looking down at me in confusion.
I hung my head, not wanting to make eye contact. "Yeah, Sero was at my place last night."
"Why the fuck didn't you just say that?" Katsuki asked, finally taking a step back. I could feel his eyes burning holes into my head as I kept my own on the floor.
"Why were you helping out our boyfriend at midnight and then lying about it?" Eijirou asked in a clipped tone. His words caused me to look up, but he was just glaring daggers at Sero next to me.
"Whoa, it's not like that!" Sero said instantly, his hands out in front of him in surrender.
I winced at what I was about to do. "Sero was bringing me weed." I rushed it all out in one breath, in case I changed my mind at the last second.
"What?" Katsuki asked in utter shock.
Sero was quick to try damage control. "He wasn't sleeping or eating, what'd you want me-"
"You," Eijirou snapped, cutting him off in a flash. "Shut the fuck up." He turned his scalding gaze on me.
I took a shaky breath. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I just-"
I wasn't surprised when he cut me off, but it still stung. "I have been begging you for weeks to talk to us, your boyfriends who love you and have supported you through all your shit."
He was yelling at me. Actually yelling. It was different from when Katsuki yelled, when he yells all the time, it loses any impact. I'll never get used to Eijirou yelling.
"Just to find out that you went to Sero for help," he let out a cruel laugh. "I didn't even know you were having trouble sleeping, did you, Kat?" He shot a look over his shoulder at our boyfriend.
"I had no idea," Katsuki responded, looking at me with a frown. I don't know if that was better or worse than Eijirou's glare.
Eijirou looked between Sero and I. "How long?" he asked simply.
I could speak, completely dazed by the scene unfolding before me. It was Sero who answered. "A few weeks probably," it was spoken in a quiet mumble.
"That's fucking great," he exclaimed, running a hand down his face while taking a breath. He turned back to me. "Do you remember that conversation we've had a million times now about communication? About how that was the only way this was ever going to work?" He pointed between all three of us, waiting for my response.
My eyes went wide, fearing the worst. I shook my head frantically, not wanting him to say another word. "I'm sorry, I'm so fucking sorry, okay? I just didn't want to worry you or freak you out and I was scared you guys would be mad-" I reached my hand towards him, but he brushed me off. My words died in my throat as I watched my hand fall back to my side.
"You can come find us when you figured everything out then," he didn't spare me another look before turning on his heel and leaving. Katsuki only lingered for a second before following the redhead.
I blinked as they left me there. "What just happened?" I asked aloud, not expecting an answer.
"Your communication issues, biting you in the ass," Kaminari mumbled from behind me.
I turned around in mild shock, having forgotten the other three were still there. "Oh, that all just happened right in front of you," I shook my head, running a hand through my hair. "I'm gonna- I'm just gonna head home now." I didn't wait for a response before I was heading for the door. I needed to get out of there as soon as possible.
"Izuku Midoriya," Ashido's voice called in a stern manner. It made me pause. "If you love those boys, you need to stop running from them or you need to let them go. I can't keep seeing you all like this."
I know.
