Chapter 5: Rest-Easy
Lots and lots of dialogue...
"Lucky me..." you rolled your identical (e/c) orbs to the band of gunmetal bracelets clasped over not only your right wrist but your left as well with next to no room to breath. A long silver chain connected the cuffs but they weren't the same metals. Restrained but all at the same time you were granted the liberty of freedom. Your wrists were already chafed, discolored, and stripped of numerous layers of skin that left your pink flesh bare to the elements of the outside world. And you haven't even tried to escape yet...
"You just woke up and that's the first thing you point out?" Chopper stood upon the bed pointing at your wristband with his pointed hoof. The presence of this creature that could walk, talk, and dress just like any human would just barely blew your mind. And it's been a while since something had actually made you speechless. You recognized the little reindeer though, it just set all of the pieces into place.
You let your arms drop down onto your stomach, "I was trying to avoid pointing out the OBVIOUS!" Distressed, you clenched your hands into fists thrashing at your doctor, Chopper shrieked falling off the patient's bed as you threw him off unable to express your anger otherwise with your body feeling like a complete dead weight. You watched the reindeer scamper away and half hide behind his towering doctor's chair after your outburst.
You thought it was perhaps some heavy medication the reindeer doctor had put you on that made you body feel as still and heavy as it was, that was until nothing on your body would cooperate with anything command that came to mind. Ranting was the only thing on your mind now. "What's wrong with me Chopper? Why can't I move?"
Chopper shook in his place with teary eyes. "Your spine is broken," the little doctor whimpered. "BUT! I have already performed surgery on you and most of your bones are as good as new! Just get plenty of rest and you'll be as strong as those bones," Chopper rocked on his feet with a cheesy grin plastered over his face, rubbing the back of his neck with a subtle hint of pink dusting his furry cheeks. However, after the doctor never got the praise he expected, he found you with a look of death in your (e/c) eyes.
"Don't ever operate on me without my permission..." You growled with one thing definite on the mind. Kill this animal doctor. Never once did your piercing gaze leave Chopper's smaller toddler frame.
"But... But... " Chopper mumbled. "If I didn't operate, you'd be permanently crippled from the neck down..." An eerie silence had set in.
"Did I stutter?" You raised your voice to a small echo within the room "I don't want anyone operating on me without my permission. I'd rather die."
"But anything is better than death. I just saved your life," Chopper found himself being sucked into an argument with you without even realizing it.
"Then you should've let me die!" You bellowed with Chopper immediately going silent to your poisonous words. Clearly the phrase affected Chopper in more ways than one. The idea to repeat said phrase wasn't sounding all too much like a bad idea. "I already hate this crew..." You cursed avoiding any and all eye contact with the doctor. "Luffy wanted me to join his crew, well here I am. What? He had to go and break my spine, AND THEN he had the nerve to go out of his way to put sea prism stone on me!?" Chopper one step at a time, came out from his hiding spot. He couldn't disagree with anything you said, there was nothing good about your position in the slightest as he watched you pull and bite at your handcuffs with your pearly whites.
Chopper put on his serious face tugging the link of chain from your mouth. "It's precautionary matters," Chopper replied with the truth he was given the day you've arrived. "Given the circumstances... You could kill us all too easily, we're just ensuring that doesn't happen."
"Yeah well... Luffy didn't need to go and almost kill me in order to make me join up with him and this stupid crew. I feel more like a prisoner, rather than a member of your damned crew..." Chopper took that last comment to heart, but more he just gave in on you all together. At first he was fine with you, but the threats were more than doing the trick. Chopper wasn't willing to treat your injuries anymore if even you were against the treatment even in sleep...
"I'm guessing the monster finally woke up," Franky snickered to Chopper's skittish exterior as he left the sickbay with tears in his chocolate eyes. The crew awed at Chopper's broken state, being he was the child of the crew and all. No child should cry.
Sanji frowned as he listened in on the simple exchanges of conversation that agreed with Franky's previous comment. It made him wonder how he could coexist with the very crew he fed on a day to day basis. Chopper's broken spirits were too much to handle however, so the cook stepped before the doctor and picked him up, cradling the child within his arms with gentle back rubs to help him feel better after your little one sided argument not so long ago. "Thank you Sanji," Chopper cooed.
"No problem," Sanji spoke then turned towards the rest of his crew. "Don't call (Y/n) a monster..." Silence. "I meant it," nobody agreed however.
Nami whacked Sanji's bandaged chest through his shirt, earning a hiss from the cook. "You just barely escaped fight by the skin of your teeth, yet, you're still gonna give that killer respect?" Nami frowned upon Sanji. Sanji was a mirror image of the redhead.
"Monsters aren't born, they're created," Sanji pointed out with small nods of approval. And to his surprise, Robin was one of the few to agree. "Keep in mind I attacked her, she wanted no part of me. Besides..." Sanji turned his head, gazing in the direction of the closed door of the Sickbay. "Did any of you listen in on Chopper's conversation with her?"
"What? Threats and more threats?" Usopp spits.
"No..." Robin glared at her long nosed companion. "I did listen, and... She doesn't have much room to talk."
"Oh shut up..." Sanji sighed. "She just woke up from a two week coma because of her back injury to learn she was kidnapped and forced onto a pirate crew. Luffy didn't want to put those sea prism cuffs on her but you all pushed for it. I don't blame her for feeling like a prisoner. She's human too..."
"I don't agree with the sea prism handcuffs, but I don't trust (Y/n) not to kill me. She did throw me off the bed..." Chopper fumbled with Sanji's wild necktie during his little explanation.
Sanji snickered putting his tie back into order and gazing at Chopper directly in the eye. "It's been two weeks, can (Y/n) get around on her own?" Sanji questioned very nicely as Chopper thought about his answer extremely carefully.
"She can..."
"But what? Why are you trailing off?" Sanji pointed out Chopper's flaw.
Chopper buried himself within Sanji's chest. "She can't bend her spine or else she can permanently injure herself. Not like she cares... But She's free to walk around all she wants." Something told Sanji that Chopper didn't want that information getting out and about. That only means you're one step closer to killing everyone aboard.
"Good..." Sanji kneeled down and sat Chopper upon his feet. "Take a break, I'll watch over (Y/n) till we can trust her some more."
"Really?" Chopper gasped with eyes full of glittering wonder.
"Yeah. Why not? I know her weaknesses now so it's not like I'll lose for a second time," Chopper lunged out and hugged Sanji tightly around the neck in a mini choking hold.
"I love you Sanji!"
"Same... Here...." Sanji went lightheaded, Zoro had to pry Chopper from his rival in order to spare him. Sanji for a change, was thankful that towards Zoro of all people and then headed out towards the sickbay. Towards your dungeon.
Sanji waited right outside the sickbay, debating on how to properly introduce himself to you after that last one sided fight where his own head was clouded with the belief of succeeding in battle. Then finally, after an eternity of debate, he finally had the right words. "It's been two weeks, bet you're hungry," Sanji exclaimed upon entering the small room. You weren't startled, more you were rather annoyed and immediately huffed throwing a roll of gauze at the blonde from the bedside table.
"Don't bother," you sneered. "I'm not eating anything this crew gives me. I just want to be left alone... Besides... I'm surprised you're so bubbly after what I've done to you," Sanji didn't expect a remark such as that to come out of your mouth so suddenly, the stubbornness yes, but your words shown selflessness at its source. He could only assume you don't have a significant other in your life.
"I deserved what I got, and, i'm thankful you spared me when you did," you fought against his words of flattery. Today was a day of many firsts, today was the first time a man had made you truly uncomfortable by thanking you of all things.
"Can you not take a hint? Leave me alone," you barked out that order to cloud your mind of the real picture.
"Look (Y/n)," Sanji's voice grew with hostility, tired of all the shade being thrown around like a the flu. "Me, Chopper, Luffy... and well, maybe Zoro too, we are the only one's here on this crew who truly can trust you. Don't lose that gift."
"And?" You rolled your eyes. "Is there supposed to a moral to this story?"
"You know... I don't have to be here and take care of you when I could be sleeping and resting up from these injuries you caused," Sanji scrunched up his nose at you with disgust, he clearly was getting his point across based upon your mildly shocked facial expressions. "I am this ship's cook, and until your attitude improves, I am your temporary doctor. I hope to be your friend as well but that all depends on you."
"You're crazy for trusting me. Not as crazy as the first and last man I've slept with, but you're crazy enough for my liking," Sanji finally smiled. Just a small taste of your friendly side feels like he was tasting out of the holy grail itself. Except, he's actually down to earth shocked that someone would be crazy enough to sleep with you just like you just said.
"Serial Killer or not, I find every woman to be beautiful, but I know better than to sleep with you," you burst out into a fit of satisfying laughter.
"That's exactly what I told him believe it or not."
"Who the hell did you sleep with?" Sanji's curiosity got the better of him.
You snickered once again, "better to let the curiosity slowly eat you from the inside out."
"Not like the depends on your answer..." Sanji was quick to give in to change the subject. "How does stretching out your legs sound?"
"You can't walk without a working spine," you groaned.
"Heh heh, thing is, you can walk," you shot Sanji wild looks. "Chopper said you can walk freely or do whatever you want just as long as you keep a straight posture to avoid bending your spine."
"I can deal with that," you smirked. "Mind giving me a hand? I can't move..."
"Sure," Sanji had to manually pick you up from the mattress. Slipping one hand underneath your back and the other to rest beneath the backs to your knees. The blonde had knelt down and sat you gently upon your feet. Jelly, that's what they had become. Two weeks can really do a number on you. "It's like watching a baby horse walk for the first time," Sanji awed.
SLAP
"Insult me again and I'll make sure to use that syringe over there..."
