Chapter 10
"What the hell do you mean there's no inns available?"
"I'm very sorry sir, but we are booked at the moment for the festival of light, tonight."
Yuhan pressed the bridge of his nose, "can't you see my friend is gravely injured," Yuhan slammed his hand down in the counter.
The man began to shake, "Y...y...yes sir, but we are full."
Somehow we managed to reach the city, Alany. A very beautiful city, full of vibrant color and people. Alany's most iconic tourist attraction is the festival of light, where they fill the night sky with colored lanterns, and light off fireworks.
It's a spectacular ceremony, from what I have overheard from my maids back in the castle. Many people come to see it yearly, which makes it a good spot to hide because we can blend into the crowds, but makes it hard to find somewhere to help Kai.
"I touched Yuhan's shoulder gently, "easy now. I apologize for my friend sir, but do you know of a place where we could find somewhere to stay, perhaps another inn or a family you known of who takes is travelers."
The man eased a bit, "There's an abandoned farmhouse just above the hill less than a mile from here, but I'm afraid during the festival, not many family's are too trusting of strangers."
"I understand, and thank you for assisting us. If you wouldn't mind putting us in the direction of the farmhouse, it would be of great help to us."
"My pleasure," he peered over at Yuhan, who looked bright pink with embarrassment. Doesn't know how to control his newly found temper. But, he's a sweetheart.
Kai moaned from the chair I placed him in to give Yuhan a break. He didn't look very comfortable in the wooden thing, arms swinging off the sides and all. But we were leaving soon anyways.
"Homely...I guess."
Yuhan and I stared at the shabby farmhouse, concealed in green vines. The door was partially pulled of the top hinge. Weeds grew up to my knee caps surrounding the place.
Yuhan adjusted Kai on his back. I looked over at Kai's serene face. So calm and youthful. He looks so much younger when he sleeps. What is it with men looking so different when they sleep.
I trained my focus back on the farmhouse ahead. "Well, let's head inside."
Yuhan took off ahead of me. He panted as he tried to run to the farmhouse. He struggled with a full grown man on his back. I giggled at his struggle and walked behind him.
The farmhouse wasn't much better inside. Piles of vines spread across the floors. Some hay was stacked in the corner of the house, and soot concealed the wooden flooring.
Yuhan placed Kai on a bed of vines, and let out a long sigh. He pushes himself much too hard. I skipped over to him and gave him a little pat on the head teasingly.
He raised his eyebrow and a gave a little roll of his eyes. I smiled kindly. It was nice to know he still had his sense of humor. The day Yuhan loses his humor... things are truly in for the worst.
Kai stirred and slowly sat up. I ran over to him and gently touched his face.
"How are you feeling?"
Kai stared at me with his dazed blue eyes, not being able to fully focus on me. I grazed my thumb over his cheek, trying to wake him a bit.
He finally began wake. He stared straight into my eyes. It felt like he was staring deep into my soul. My heart thundered in my chest, but I couldn't look away.
"Hello?" Yuhan broke my trance and I pulled back. Kai leaned his head back and stared up at the ceiling. We both felt that... connection. That was really strange.
"I should check your wounds, see if I can clean them up." Kai nodded and attempted to flip himself over. He grunted in pain. I couldn't bare to do it alone, so I assisted him.
The wounds were healing a bit, and there was no infection, so that was an upside. I motioned Yuhan to get me water. I poured the canteen on them, washing of the blood that had been cracked on, but I couldn't get it all off.
"Yuhan, why don't wash him up with your water magic. Ill step outside, because... well you know."
Yuhan chuckled, "Sure thing cutie," he was me a little salute and I headed outside into the lush green. The scent of moist earth was more defined now. I hadn't really noticed earlier. The smell of the plants and life, it was a warm feeling.
I lifted my sleeve to looks at my burns. It's gotten worse. Those pink flesh that was once there was beginning to turn blackish. Black is a toxic color for skin to be. However, worrying won't help.
I pulled my sleeve back down to keep me from over-analyzing. I took in a deep breath of the refreshing air.
"Hey! Doctor, we are ready for operation!"
Yuhan scared the crap out of me. I turned and saw him peaking out from the farmhouse. He gave me his goofy smile, and motioned for me to come.
"We are going to need to seal this one up. Otherwise, bandages should be sufficient."
Kai let out a little growl. Kai hated sealing his wounds, but it's necessary.
"Yuhan, can you get a fire going. I spotted one or two trees out there, so et to it."
"Yes ma'am."
I looked closely at the wounds. They were much easier to see clean. Kai lay there very patiently. He seemed quiet though. I searched up his muscular back and stared at his soft brown hair. I felt the urge to run my fingers through it. What a strange thing to feel.
Suddenly, something urged in my stomach. I sat back on my knees and tried to sense what was wrong. My powers were urging me to touch the wounds. I complied and placed my hands on his back.
"What are you...?" Kai tried to speak, but was quickly cut off by the bright light coming from his back. Panic filled me, as my powers took control of my hands, glueing them on the wounds. A surge of energy was going through the veins in my arms and hands. I raced up and down, causing burning.
I tried to contain my pain and clenched my teeth. The pain was horrific. Just as bad as the pain that I got back in the castle when I received the power. Shit! Was I giving him my power. I tried to pull back with all my might, but my arms refused to budge.
"No!" I cried out, unable to resist the urge to say something.
"What's going on Scarlett?!? What are you doing?!?"
"M..my powers! It can't stop!"
Suddenly, The light disappeared and I flung backwards onto the ground. I felt my elbow scrape against the wood. What the hell just happened?
