this is not soon lol I'm sorry but yay update :D
-----
It was a week later since that day. It was never brought up by neither of the two boys. Louis was also trying to quit again. Just for Harry. Louis would put Harry before anything. Even if it's health.
Harry tries to tell him not to and that he doesn't need to worry about him, but Louis didn't care. He didn't care about anything unless it had to do with Harry.
Of course he cares about Niall, too, but only because he's friends with Harry.
Louis was lowering his smoking time -- taking baby steps. He's down to one stick a week instead of two per day. To say Harry is proud of him was an understatement.
Currently, it was around 1AM and Louis was outside on his balcony with a cigarette. He was leaning over the bar, letting the ashes fall to the ground.
He hears the sliding door open, knowing it's his mom so he doesn't turn around. Jay stands next to her son and doesn't say anything for a while.
When Louis puts his cigarette out, Jay begins to speak.
"How are you?" Such a simple question that has many answers. Louis doesn't know how he's doing.
"Not sure. Why are you up?"
"Something woke me up and told me to come talk to you."
"Even if I was asleep?"
"You haven't slept a wink." Louis looked at his mom confused. How did she know he hasn't slept yet? Was she watching him?
Jay chuckled, then replied, "Mother's intuition. So, now I'm here. What's going on?"
Louis sighed. He didn't know what was going on, but he did know it had to do with Harry.
"Harry, that's what's going on. I love him a lot, but.." He trailed off, hoping his mom would get the gist and not make him say it.
Of course, things don't always go his way.
"But?" Jay asks, gesturing for her son to continue.
"But, I'm not sure anymore. Like, I am sure -- it's just, I don't think I love him platonically anymore. I love him as in I want to kiss him so bad and to hold his hand. I want to hold him while he's sleep and I want to just love him. But I can't. I can't because he thinks we're just friends and that's all we'll ever be."
Tears are now rolling down his cheeks, but he doesn't care enough to wipe them away. Jay hugs her son tightly as he cries into her shoulder at 2AM.
-
"Lou!" Harry calls as he runs down the hallway to his friend. People are starring at him weirdly, but don't say anything since they know Harry is shy and doesn't talk to anyone.
He reaches the short boy and hugs him from behind. Harry inhales his scent deeply, loving the smell of the soap Louis uses. It had a manly scent to it compared to Harry's fruity soap. The curly haired boy loved it a lot.
Louis chuckled and gripped onto the taller boy's arms in an attempt to hug him back. "Are you sniffing me?"
Harry leans his head up from smelling Louis's neck, smiling sheepishly. "Maybe." Harry says.
Louis laughs, looking up at Harry. They stare at each other, trapped in one another's trance. Harry's the first to look away, realizing what was happening.
"So, heard any new gossip lately?" Harry asks, nervously. They walk down the hall to their first period class since the bell was about to ring.
Louis is in deep thought, trying to figure out if he heard anything. Which in fact he did.
"You know Jessica, right?" Harry nods. "Well she kissed Lily at a party last weekend because she was drunk. But, it turns out that she only had one cup, so she was just tipsy. When Lily confronted her a day later, Jessica denied the whole thing even though Lily knew the truth. I'm not sure if they're speaking now, but Derrick told me he saw them kissing underneath the bleachers near the football field yesterday after school. I intend on finding out what's going on. I need to speak with my sources." Louis whispered that last part to himself.
Harry nodded, not really caring. He only asked Louis that because he likes hearing him talk. Harry could listen to the shorter boy talk all day.
The bell rang, signaling that class has started. The teacher walked in and began writing the warm up on the board.
After school, Harry walked out the front door and to his car. He got and started it up, deciding to wait in front of the doors for Louis since the walk is kind of long.
A few minutes pass and Louis is opening the passenger door, settling in the seat. However, Harry seems to not notice as he is giggling at his phone, rapidly moving his thumbs across the screen. Louis furrows his eyebrows, wondering who the hell Harry is texting.
"Who are you texting?" Harry looks at Louis, a smile still plastered on his face.
"Niall." He continues to type on his phone and Louis is getting worked up now. They were supposed to be heading to Louis's house to hang out, not sit in front of the school, in a car, texting Niall. Instead, they should be driving down the road while singing some of played out songs on the radio.
Harry finally puts his phone down in the cup holder, still smiling a little and starting the car up. Louis tries not to be jealous since it's only Niall.
"What were you guys talking about?" Louis asked, trying to sound nonchalant about it. Usually, Harry would be the first to tell Louis about his day or anything significant that happened. Louis thought Harry would tell him what was so funny when he set his phone down, but apparently not.
"Oh, nothing really. He told me a joke."
"Something's telling me not to believe you, but I will." This made Harry pout. What does he mean?
"Why don't you believe me? You can look at the texts if you want."
"No, no, Harr. I don't want to see your messages that'd be wrong and disrespectful." Louis argued, avoiding Harry's previous question.
"Not if I'm letting you. Why are you reluctant on believing me?"
"I- I don't know. However, i do know that you'd never lie to me. Unlike I did to you." Louis looked out the window, afraid he might cry. He doesn't know why he wants to cry, but he just needs to let something out.
But, not right now. Not around Harry.
"No, don't bring that up ever again. It's over, it's in the pass. But, Niall's joke was stupid, you probably don't even want to know." Harry finally pulled into Louis's driveway. They got out, and went inside the house. Jay was sitting on the couch, watching Modern Family and looked behind her when the door opened. She smiled when seeing Harry come in after her son.
"Oh my goodness, Harry Styles! I haven't seen you in forever. How've you been?" She says while hugging Harry. Harry chuckles and hugs her back.
"Hi, Jay. I've been good. How about you? Lou giving you any problems?" Jay laughed at that and shook her head.
"Hey, I heard that!" Louis shouted from the kitchen.
"I'm doing great. How's your mom?"
"She's fine. Maybe you should visit her or something. She's always talking about not having any girl friends to hang out with when you're clearly around the corner."
Jay laughs, then says, "Alright, I'll give her a call. I'm going out grocery shopping so you boys have fun. It was nice seeing you again Harry." Jay kisses Harry's cheek then grabs her keys and purse, and heads out the door.
The house was quiet now and empty besides the two boys. Harry ventures into the kitchen to find Louis. He sees the small boy sitting on the counter, eating marshmallows.
"What are you doing?" Harry asks dumbly.
"Playing my version of chubby bunny." Louis stuffs two of the fluffy treats into his mouth, chewing them.
"What's your version?" Harry asks as he gets a water bottle from the fridge. He chugs most of it, not realizing how thirsty he was.
"To see how many marshmallows I can eat. So far, I'm winning."
"So far, you're the only one playing. You can't race yourself."
"Who says I can't race myself? Besides, you're playing too."
"What? No I'm-" Harry begins to say but a soft substance was pelted at his face, making him stop mid-sentence. "Did you just?"
Louis laughs and continues to throw more. Soon, Harry starts to fight back. He picks up the marshmallows that have fallen and throw them back at Louis.
"Hey!" Louis shouts. They both continue to throw the sweet treats until they are lying on the floor of the living room, surrounded by marshmallows. They were out of breath since they were running around and jumping over the couch.
"That...was fun." Louis said in between pants. Harry nodded his head in agreement.
"We should clean up before your mom gets back." The green eyed boy suggested. Louis whined, but got up anyway. Both of them started cleaning, but Harry felt something hit the back of his head. He turned to see Louis looking every where but him.
"Louuuu."
"Hmm?"
"Did you throw another marshmallow at me?" Louis smiled widely, shaking his head. "Yes you did! Now stop so we can clean." Harry laughed.
However, Louis had different plans. He chucked yet another marshmallow, this time hitting Harry's back. Harry turned around, but didn't say anything. Instead, he started chasing the short boy. Louis let out a scream and began running upstairs. On his way to his room, (Harry knew he was going for the closet) Louis tripped over his own feet and fell onto the carpeted hallway.
Harry spotted him and jumped right on top of Louis, causing him to groan in pain. Harry only laughed, saying, "Now say you're sorry and that I'm the best friend you'll ever have and that you love me."
"Never!" Louis shouted and giggled. He tried pushing Harry off of him, but surprisingly Harry was stronger. Harry pinned Louis down by his wrists, leaving over him slightly so their faces were mere inches apart.
"I'm still waiting." Harry says with a smirk. Louis shakes his head and keeps his mouth shut.
So, Harry does something he will regret.
He leans down so that his lips were near the shell of Louis's ear. The feeling of Harry's breath brought on a strange feeling in the pit of Louis's stomach. Harry then started nibbling on his earlobe and almost had Louis moaning on the spot. But Louis bit tongue, struggling to keep it in.
Harry started a trail of small kisses from Louis' ear to his neck. Louis knew he should stop him, but damn it felt so good. So right. Everything was right with this. Except for one thing, though. They're only friends.
With this in mind, Louis starts to push Harry off and frantically get up from the floor. Harry was taken by surprise, eyes wide with fear. He had done something wrong.
"Lou, I am so sorry! I didn't mean it, please don't hate me." Harry quickly apologizes as he gets up from the floor, too.
Louis shakes his head, putting his hand up to stop him. "No, Harry, it's okay. Just -- just leave it alone. Um, I think it's best that you leave. I'm sorry, it's not you, it's me. You did nothing wrong Harry, please don't think that."
"But, I kissed your neck! I probably made you uncomfortable. I got too carried away. I'm sorry, Lou." Harry takes a step closer to his best friend and is slightly happy that he didn't back away from him.
"Harry, it's fine. I'm okay, I'm okay. However, you should be heading home now, it's getting dark and I know you hate driving in the dark."
"Okay. But um do you still want me to help clean?" Harry asked hesitantly. Louis shakes his head to which the tall boy nodded to. Harry walked to the front door, placing his hand on the knob and twisting it.
Louis watches him as he turns around and asks, "Do you hate me?" And it was barely above a whisper but Louis heard him since the house was eerily quiet.
"No, I don't Harr. I'll see you tomorrow, though." Louis smiled at him and that was enough to not make Harry feel so guilty. Harry smiled back widely and left with an enthusiastic wave of his hand.
Later that night, both boys lay in bed, starring up at the ceiling. Both were thinking of the incident earlier. Each were secretly relishing in it, loving how close they were to one another. Both boys wish it could always be like that without it being weird, since they're only friends.
But that's a secret they'll keep to themselves.
