Chapter 18
I have a Xmas present for you all today. This chapter is freaking angsty and not really fit for the holiday spirit, but whatever. It's a really important chapter, so I hope you all enjoy it.
Hyunjin gave his parents a silly excuse about why he was home late. He didn't want them to know what had happened. Knowing them, they probably would blame Jaebum and Jinyoung, but those two had nothing to do with it. It was just that picture of his mother and whatever that image he saw was. It had nothing to do with his uncles. Although they didn't really do much when Hyunjin started to freak out. They sort of just enjoyed the show. They were probably just freaked out and didn't know what to say, but that doesn't really explain why they didn't come to check on him before Jisung dropped him back home. Or why they haven't texted or called regarding his situation. Hyunjin had pushed that from his head. The couple was probably busy. It's not like he wasn't okay now. Jisung had helped him calm down. About Jisung. Hyunjin couldn't have been more thankful for his friend. He had been able to comfort him and get him to relax. Something that his parents struggled with sometimes, especially when the panic attack got out of hand. But, Jisung had handled it with expertise. Hyunjin's heart warms when he thinks back to the way Jisung held him. He usually would push everyone away when he has a panic attack, but for some reason he wanted Jisung to stay. He guesses it just has to do with the fact that he trusts the boy so much. Hyunjin doesn't know why he does, after all they've only met this year. But, Jisung was something else. Hyunjin doesn't know what it is, but that boy is something special. The way he's able to understand Hyunjin. The way he's able to calm him down. The way he looks at him and smiles. The way he teases him. It all just makes Jisung so very precious to Hyunjin. He really does care for the boy. Just thinking about Jisung put a smile on his face. After what had happened, Jisung had made Hyunjin swear that he tells him the next time he meets with Jinyoung and Jaebum. The boy wanted to be nearby in case anything happened again. Hyunjin had promised, even though he doubted anything like this would occur once more. Still, Hyunjin was never one to break a promise and did send his friend a text as soon as he confirmed his visit to his uncles a couple of weeks later. Apparently, the couple had some old family videos that they wanted to show Hyunjin. The boy, curious to see more of his past and his mother, couldn't help but say yes. His parents were still worried, but since they still hadn't acquired anything to show the Evermore leaders were lying, they had to let their son go. Hyunjin arrived at his uncles' place right on time. Jinyoung met him by the front door and eagerly took him to a back theater room that reminded Hyunjin of the one in his own home. The couple already had the screen on and snacks set up. They had encouraged Hyunjin to sit down, not even mentioning the events of last time. Hyunjin wondered why, but pushed the thought from his head as Jaebum passed him some popcorn and the video started. Hyunjin laughed and giggled as he watched the old footage of his uncle playing around. Jinyoung groaned in embarrassment while Jaebum cooed at his adorable husband. The next footage were some of his mother on her first days of school and even her first dance. Hyunjin found it a tad bit weird that in neither of the videos were Jinyoung and his mother seen side by side, but he passed that off as siblings being siblings. Why would they want to be forced to pose together on camera? They probably butted heads a lot when they were younger. Hyunjin smiles as he sees his mom twirl around the living room in what looks like a celebration for the woman's birthday. The next scene shows a close up of his mom unwrapping a small box. Hyunjin's chest seizes, wondering if inside is what he thinks it is. He watches as his mother opens the box to reveal a small silver band with a clear jewel in the center. He lets out a breath he hadn't even realized he had been holding. His gaze lowers and he notices his hands slightly quivering from fear. Suddenly, the door flies open and Jisung rushes into the room. Hyunjin's eyes widen as Jisung grabs onto his hand and pulls him to his feet. The boy doesn't speak as he drags Hyunjin out of the theater room. Once the two have left, Jaebum scowls, "This is the second time already."
"I know," Jinyoung states.
Jaebum shakes his head, "We should just remove Han from the picture. He's messing everything up." Jinyoung doesn't reply, appearing to be in thought. Jaebum growls, "Jinyoung! Answer me!
"Hm..." Jinyoung says, looking up at his lover, "Yes, yes, you will get what you want darling. It is for the best."

Jisung leads the boy out of his uncles' place and down the street. Neither of them talk as they make their way all the way to Jisung's hideout. Once inside, Jisung lets Hyunjin go. The boy sits down on the old couch while Jisung starts to pace back and forth, something on his mind. Jisung? What the hell was that?" Hyunjin asks.
Jisung frowns, "They were going to do something. I needed to get you out."
"You're being a tad bit overprotective, don't you think?" Hyunjin asks. Jisung huffs and continues to pace. Hyunjin sighs and leans against the couch. He watches as his friend, wondering what is up with him. "You're going to burn a hold in the ground with your pacing," Hyunjin comments. Jisung doesn't answer, his eyebrows furrowed. Hyunjin shifts in his seat, still not getting what is up with his friend. "You really do look like a knight when you walk like that," Hyunjin says with a giggle. Jisung stops and looks up at Hyunjin for a second before continuing to pace. Hyunjin huffs, still not understanding what is going on with his friend. Usually, Jisung would easily banter with him, but the boy seems to be in a whole other world. It doesn't even look like he's registering anything Hyunjin is saying. "Okay, Sung, what is up with you?" Hyunjin questions, "What are you doing?" Jisung stops and stares right at Hyunjin with a serious expression. Hyunjin stiffens, realizing that something must be wrong. "I need to tell you something," Jisung says.
"Okay," Hyunjin says in a suspicious tone.
Jisung frowns, "You're going to be mad at me."
"Yeah, right," Hyunjin scoffs, "What is it?"
"You really are," Jisung says with a downcast look.
"Sure," Hyunjin says, "Just speak, Jisung."
"I've been lying to you," Jisung blurts out. Hyunjin blinks in surprise, not expecting the boy to have said such a thing. "What?" Hyunjin asks.
"I shouldn't be telling you this. They'll kill me if they find out, but I can't keep it from you anymore," Jisung stops moving and stares at his feet, "I've been lying to you about everything. The way we met. The way we became friends. It was all a lie..."
"This is some joke...right?" Hyunjin questions, not wanting to believe it.
Jisung shakes his head, "It was all a ruse. Jinyoung and Jaebum aren't my guardians. They're my bosses. This was all for a covert mission. It was just to get closer to you. To get you to trust me so that I could get the ri-"
"Wait, stop!" Hyunjin exclaims, "This can't be real...you've been lying to me?"
Jisung bites his lip and nods, "I'm so sorry, Hyunjin..."
"You're sorry?! How can you be sorry when you've been lying to me!? I trusted you, Jisung! I trusted you!!!" Hyunjin shrieks, tears building up in his eyes, "And you've been pretending to be my friend this entire time? Since the very beginning and even now!!! You're just faking it for a job! For a freaking mission!"
"No! No! That's how it started, but not anymore. I saw it as a job when we started out, but over time I really wanted to be your friend. I like spending time with Hyunjin. I care for you. Really! I do!" Jisung exclaims, "You mean so much to me, Hyunjin. You need to believe me."
"How can I when you've been lying to me?" Hyunjin asks, his voice shaking, "I trusted you...you know that people have used me before. You said you were different..."
"I am! I wouldn't be telling you this if I didn't care!" Jisung exclaims, tears springing from his eyes as well. Hyunjin shakes his head and shoots to his feet. "I didn't want to do this! That's why I'm telling you! I don't want to be your friend just because I'm told to. I want to be your real friend," Jisung shouts.
"You were never my real friend," Hyunjin says, "A real friend would never do such a thing!"
"Hyunjin, please! Princess!" Jisung pleads, tears dripping from his eyes.
"Don't call me that!" Hyunjin cries, his face red as tears stream down his cheeks. Jisung chokes back a sob and slowly approaches Hyunjin. "Just let me explain more. Jinyoung and Jaebum..." Jisung says.
Hyunjin takes a step back and shakes his head, "This isn't about them. It doesn't matter that they're your bosses. It was your choice. You were the one who lied to me. You were the one who said I'm your best friend and that I should trust you! I never should've let you into my life!"
Jisung lets out a shaky breath, "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry..."
"Sorry won't fix this," Hyunjin states. The boy's heart feels as if it's ripping into two. He trusted Jisung. He thought that the boy cared about him and was his friend, but it's all just a big made up story. His parents had been right. He never should've trusted Jisung. Hyunjin whimpers at the feeling of betrayal and hurt coursing through his body. He can't comprehend it. How did he not see it? How did he get so enamored by Jisung that he didn't notice how much of a fake he is? Jisung was supposed to be his friend. Instead he's just a lackey following orders. He never once cared for Hyunjin. Just like all the other friends that have betrayed him in the past. Jisung is no different. "Please..." Jisung begs, "Hyunjin..."
Hyunjin frowns, "Stay away from me." With that said, the boy takes off out of the hideout and back home. Jisung watches as Hyunjin leaves, his own heart aching in pain. Regret and sorrow consuming him whole. "I'm so sorry," Jisung murmurs.
Waaaaah! It's so sad. Jisung finally decided to reveal the truth and it blew up in his face. Still, aren't you all happy that Jisung isn't lying to Hyunjin anymore. Do you think Hyunjin's reaction was warranted? Do you think he'll forgive him? This chapter isn't very Christmassy, but I hope you still enjoyed it. To those of you who celebrate, have a merry Christmas! To those that don't happy holidays and happy new year! I hope you all get a bunch od great gifts and have a stupendous day!
