Ch. 7

I wake up and run my eyes. The sun is shining brightly with birds chirping their songs. I go into my closet and pick out a light pink blouse and dark blue jeans. I slip into my converse and put my hair in a ponytail. It's Monday! It's school today! I smile and grab my backpack and head to my middle school, Atlanta High School. As I walk past Harper's room I remember Ms. Ruth's plans. Harper's dad will be here in Atlanta, Georgia and she will be in Montana. I won't let that happen. I need another plan. A plan to follow my other plan. Tonight is phase 1. Everyone will remove their tracking devices and we will have more freedom. We can night roam and no one will know. Right now it's 9:00. Better hurry to school. My friend Natalie is waiting by the cafeteria for me. She waves me to join her. I walk over to her. "How was your weekend?" Natalie asks. "Same as usual. TV marathons on Saturday, and swimming on Sunday." I say. I know I lied to her but I don't want her to know the truth. "Oh ok." Natalie says sounding disappointed,"do you do the same thing every weekend?" "Why?" I ask her. "I'm going to have a slumber party next weekend and I was wondering if you could come." Natalie says. "I'll ask my parents." I say. We sit in silence for a moment and then the bell rings. I run to Geometry class and sit in my desk. Mr. Sev walks in as the class arrives. My seat is in the front because its closest to the door and this class is so boring I'm going to be the first one out. "Hello class. Today we will be studying decahedrons. Fractions of decahedrons, compositional figures with decahedrons with other shapes, and everything else about decahedrons." Me. Sev announces. The whole class groans. He passes out worksheets with 30 questions on them. "This is a pre-test. You will have the entire class period to complete the test. If you finish work on pages 345-348 in your textbook. If you don't finish whatever you have completed will be imputed into my grade book. Time begins...now." Mr. Sev states. I read the 1st question. 1: How many sides are there on a decahedron? That's easy. 12 sides. After completing the first few questions, I realize the test is not multiple choice. I glance around the room to see everyone's faces but I do so quickly so it isn't considered cheating. Bree is chewing on her pencil, Matt is worryingly grasping his hair, some girls are biting their lower lip and Kit isn't at all looking up from his test. Of course. Kit is gifted, a genius. For junior year, he's bound to get all honors classes. I asked him one day what his IQ was. He said,"156." Wow he's smart. I check my watch. It's been 10 minutes and I'm in question #15. I can totally finish with extra time to spare. Kit walls up to Mr. Sev's desk and places his paper face down. "I'm done sir." Kit says. "Good. Since your a prodigy, do some pages in this textbook. Pages 123-131 after you finish the other pages." Me. Sev instructs. Geometry Gifted: Grade 11 the book reads. I shake my head around and get back to work. 16: Macie has 7 purses shaped like decahedrons, each with an area of 7' by 4'. What is the total area of all the purses? Ugh! I actually have to do math! I tap my pencil a few times on my desk before realizing the answer. I scribble my work down on a scratch piece of paper and write the answer. I breeze through the final questions and then I turn in my test. I take out my heavy workbook and start working on the assigned pages. I look around and notice that Kit and I are the only ones done with our tests. The work pages are just guided practice. Mr. Sev says,"If you don finish the work pages they're homework." Then the bell rings and I pack up my things and head off to History.
