Kodiak;; IceWing OC

I always find IceWings really fascinating because of their complexity as a tribe. This lovely character was submitted by virtualsharks!

BASIC INFORMATION;;
------ Name: Kodiak.
Nice name! That's an island near/in Alaska, isn't it?

------ Age: 27.
Liking it.

------ Gender: Demiboy (he/them).
Demiboy!! I don't think we've had a demigender dragon here yet.

------ Sexuality: Panromantic, asexual.
Very nice.

------ Tribe: IceWing.
Cool.

------ Abilities: Other than the average IceWing abilities, Kodiak is extremely strong and an excellent swimmer.
Good good good, the detail here is nice. Muscular strength and powerful swimming go well together.

------ Relationship Status: Single.
Excuse you, I think I'll date him.

------ Occupation: Whaler (Is that the correct term? I've got no clue. He hunts whales).
Yes, that's the word. This is also infinitely better than hunter.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION;;
Kodiak is the literal definition of a gentle giant.
Aww.

Easily the tallest IceWing in the kingdom, he's also very muscular from his work in the whaling industry.
Interesting. I suppose this makes sense in the sense of swimming and flinging harpoons. Surely he'd be fairly agile too, since dragons are roughly the same size as whales and would probably have to fight for a fair bit with their prey? Unless he's a long-distance hunter, of course.

While this makes him very powerful, he isn't very dainty or light on his feet and is a bit of a klutz.
I'm questioning this, since he's a whaler; but of course, klutzy characters aren't necessarily a bad thing. It makes him pretty adorable too.

His scales are white with barely noticeable freckles of pale blue, his wing membranes and horns being the same color, and his eyes are a dark grey.
Grey eyes are tragically underused. I like the simplicity - and, moreover, the normality - of his description.

His only jewellery is a golden bracelet with a tiny golden fish charm, given to him by his mother for luck out on the open ocean.
Sweet. Don't forget, though: he'd probably have a ranking necklace, as most IceWings do.

Kodiak has a few scars here and there from fishing accidents, but nothing overly eye-catching.
Alright, that's reasonable.

PERSONALITY;;
Despite his rather menacing size, Kodiak is quite the opposite of the big scary bad guy. Though clumsy and a little awkward, he's very soft spoken and gentle.

He reminds me of a friend I used to have.

Of course, this is a little odd for an IceWing, and that plus his size made him an easy target for teasing as a dragonet.
Good. I was going to point out that it was a bit strange for an IceWing to have such a... well, MudWing-ish personality.

While obviously embarrassed Kodiak rolled along with it, but social anxiety and the fear of looking stupid in front of others became recurring issues.
Hmm, interesting. How does this anxiety manifest itself? Has he ever had to face (or live) those fears?

Kodiak is on the slower side and doesn't always understand dry humor or sarcasm, but he tries his best to keep up.
Literally me too. That's a really nice flaw though.

He can be a little overbearing in his attempts to make friends and often ends up frightening others off (especially with his lack of understanding of personal space. Aka, he likes to hug.)
That's a big shock - an IceWing who hugs? I'm intrigued. I'd love to see him meeting with some of the more rigid tribe authorities.

BACKSTORY;;
Kodiak grew up with his mother, Caribou, on the poorer end of the IceWing kingdom. His father, a soldier during the war, was killed in battle before Kodiak hatched.
Aw, that's sad to hear!

The youngest of four dragonets, he spent most of his time with his siblings roaming the streets and helping his mother around the house. Her grieving over her husband, rather than isolating her from her children, caused her to be ferociously loving and protective over them.
I like that you've included bits of Caribou's character in here, too. Did she ever become overprotective, perhaps? How long did the grieving process take for her?

The entire family was, and still is, very tightly knit. However, Caribou didn't put much emphasis on rising up in the Circles or basic IceWing behavior; thus, none of her children got very far in the rankings.
Why is that?
Also, what circle are they? That strongly affects how absurd this is. If Caribou is a first-circle dragoness, her apathy regarding the circles is a lot more unusual than if she's a fourth- to seventh-circle dweller.

Kodiak intended on joining the army when he was old enough, as to honor his father, but his mother protested in hopes that he would stay close to home.
That's a lovely motive! I assume he knows a fair bit about his father, then?

This was probably for the best as his mild-mannered personality wouldn't cope well with violence against other dragons.
Oh, so he listened to her. That's interesting.

So instead he turned to whaling to earn enough money to support Caribou as she gradually grew older and unable to work.
That's so sweet! It's also not really the IceWing thing to do. What did his siblings do while he was off on this expedition?

(Side note, this was a lot longer than intended - oops - but Kodiak is definitely a WIP!)
Really? I think the length of this was fine. For a WIP character, he's very good. Then again, bearing in mind how long I've taken to get to him, he probably isn't a WIP any more.

COMMENTS;;
------ The good...
Kodiak is a charming character, and a rare sort of IceWing indeed. His descriptions are easy to read but detailed, and it all flowed together very nicely. I'd love to see him in a story or RP - I feel he'd have a lot to offer, and watching him get on with other characters would be quite amusing.

------ The bad...
The only thing I can say is that I feel you could flesh things out a bit more. For example, his fear of embarrassment, Caribou's grieving process and his siblings' lives are all areas you could expand on. If you'd like you can also add more detail - it's a bit sparse in places.

------ How you can improve!
I said this already: expand on stuff, and maybe think about detail. The latter is very optional, though - this bio is a nice length already. The biggest thing you need to think about is what circle he's in, since his mother doesn't seem to care about them. If he's in the sixth or seventh circle, this is to be expected. If he's from a third-circle family, this is very unusual. I can imagine he'd likely be in a lower one, though, since whaling isn't exactly a noble profession.

OVERALL RATING;; 8/10.
I've been so slow I'm so sorry guys. Bear with me. I've just been given a bunch of assignments, which means procrastination will kick in and I'll be motivated to finish this entire thing.
