My Favorite Color Black (Gwenda5) wk-4 (3)
My Favorite Color Black
I was six
When I finally understood
Why momma's face
Was sometimes painted blue
But she still smiled
When sunset yellow would set in
That had me question
Such a hue
Then came seven
When scarlet flared
Like dragon breath
From daddy's lips till dawn
That turned our eyes
To ghastly grey
With sleepless nights
And all our smiles were gone
At the age of eight
I learned of fear
When colors changed
To brightly schemes of reds
That on the wall
Turned burgundy
A unique abstract
Of splattered little bits
Nine came in fierce
Like lightening white
On a canvas
Of dark opaque
And colors ceased
When we three ran
Into the night
With my favorite color black
