Chapter 9: Quirk Assessment Test

"What? A Quirk assessment test?" Almost every student yelled out, making me facepalm my forehead, "But orientation?! We're gonna miss it!"

"If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies," Mr. Aizawa turned around, his back facing us, "Here at UA, we're not tethered to traditions. That means that I get to run my class however I see fit." A couple of the students gasp in shock, but he kept talking.

"We're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the Ministry of Education will learn," Mr. Aizawa turned around, looking directly at Katsu, "Bakugo, you managed to get second place in the entrance exam. What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in Junior High?"

"Sixty‐seven meters, I think," Katsu replied, looking slightly irritated.

"Right. Try doing it with your Quirk. Anything goes, just stay in the circle," Mr. Aizawa threw him a softball, Katsu catching it in the process, "Go on. You're wasting our time."

"All right, man, you asked for it," Katsu looked at me, giving off his famous smirk before walking into the circle. It wasn't long until he was ready, seeing his hand glow red and him throwing his arm back. Then, a large explosion erupted in our surroundings, his voice yelling 'die' when the ball shot through the sky.

After a couple of more seconds, the ball hit the ground.

"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero." Mr. Aizawa stated, holding out the device with a set of numbers on it.

"Whoa, 705 meters, are you kidding me?"

"I wanna go! That looks like fun!"

"This is what I'm talkin' about, usin' our Quirks as much as we want!"

"So this looks fun, huh?" Everyone stopped and looked at our teacher in shock, "You have three years here to become a hero. Do you think it's all gonna be games and playtime? Idiots. Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled immediately."

I couldn't help but shift my gaze toward Zuku, who looked like he was having a panic attack. I walked up to him before wrapping my arms around his waist. His body froze before relaxing, probably knowing that it was just me. But, at least by doing this, he looked more at ease and stopped mumbling to himself.

"Hey, it's going to be okay," I whispered so only Zuku can hear, "Just try your best, and I promise you won't be leaving."

"(Y/N)..." I let go, seeing him turn himself around to face me, "You try your best too! Don't hold back because of me, alright?" He gives off one of his closed eye smiles as his head tilts to the side.

"Who said I was holding back?" Zuku opens his eyes, still smiling at me, "Remember to focus on where you want it to go, Zuku. Don't want you to become a noodle with all of those broken bones." I patted his shoulder before walking over to Katsu, who was staring at us intensely.

During the entire conversation with Zuku, I didn't realize that everyone was talking around us. My goal was for him to calm down since he tends to overthink in situations like this one. However, I doubt that Mr. Aizawa will expel anyone. I could tell by the way he talked that he was trying to motivate us.

"What the fuck was that?!" Katsu growled, putting his hands into a fist.

"Just wishing him good luck!" I smiled before patting his shoulder too, "Good job on that throw, Katsu. Hope you put that much effort into the rest of the tests."

"Of course I will!" He pushes my hand off his shoulder, turning his head away from me, "Don't look down at me, you damn nerd!"

"Actually, I'm looking up!" I smiled, closing my eyes, "The only person I will willingly look down at is that purple dude over there."

"Stop being a smart ass!" Katsu yelled before grabbing my wrist, "Come on, the next test is coming up!"

We were the last people to arrive at the track due to us talking.

"For the first place winner for the entrance exam, it seems like your not taking this seriously, (L/N)" Mr. Aizawa glared at me, making the other students turn around in shock.

"You're the one that got first place?!"

"Man, that's so cool!"

"I thought that the guy that went earlier was first place?"

"Appearance isn't always everything," I shrugged, walking through the crowd of students to stop before the teacher, "It's the way on how you act and respond when the time comes that shows the character. Do not judge a book by its cover, Mr. Aizawa."

"Well, then," He smirks, putting his hand out toward the track, "Why don't you show us?"

"Gladly!" I walked over to the starting line, "Clockwork Enabled." Getting myself ready, I put out my hands in front of me, waiting for the race to begin.

"Why is she just standing there?"

"Woah! Her eyes are glowing green!"

"I wonder on what quirk she has. If she got first place, it must be a unique quirk."

"On your marks. Ready‐" As soon as I heard the gunshot, I turned my hands counterclockwise. Everything paused, turning into the black and white that I have gotten so used to for the past couple of months. My feet moved, walking casually until I reached the end of the length.

"Clockwork Resume," Turning around, I smiled.

"0.01 seconds!" The machine stated, making the whole class drop their jaws.

"HOLY CRAP?!?!"

"Dude! Is her quirk teleportation?!"

"Look! She didn't even break a sweat!"

"That's so cool!"

"Alright, everyone! Calm down!" Mr. Aizawa yelled, looking at the other students in annoyance, "Next up is Lida and Asui!"

Walking back over towards everyone else, I sat down on the ground. Personally, I prefer lying or sitting rather than standing. It gives me a little bit more energy, not having to keep myself up straight. If I had a choice right now, I would be at home sleeping. Being in my comfortable bed as I would fall asleep.

Recently, my body has been reacting horribly against my sleeping pattern. It's been exhausting to get out of bed, even when I get eight hours of sleep. I've been pushing myself to stay up for two days now before going off to bed. I know it isn't a good idea to do that, but I have been pushing myself more on my limits. I can now go a little bit over a day before I pass out when stopping time.

Too bad that I can't keep my quirk activated when I'm sleeping. That would make my life so much easier.

"Good job, (Y/N)!" Turning my head over to the voice, I saw Zuku place himself right next to me.

"Thanks," I replied before sighing, now having my back lay against the ground, "I just want to sleep."

"Tired?" He asked, worry showing in his voice, "Are you getting enough sleep?"

"Yeah," I lied casually, turning my head to look straight up into the sky, "All eight hours."

"It doesn't look like it," Zuku commented as I felt pressure on my cheek by his finger, "You're starting to have black eye bags."

"That's because I'm pushing myself," Looking over at him, I saw his green eyes looking down at me in worry, "I updated my routine since I've gotten used to it- it wasn't much of a challenge. So don't worry, your pretty little head of yours, broccoli boy." Giving off a smile, he pulled his finger away from my face.

"When you say it like that, how can I not worry?!" Zuku exclaimed, his bottom lip pouting, "I want to make sure you're taking care of yourself!" I sat up, now looking directly at him.

"I'll be fine, Zuku," I grabbed his cheeks in mine before placing my forehead on his, "Besides, you have bigger things to worry about." Just as I said that Zuku's name was called for the next set, he stood up and walked away but not before looking back at me. Giving off his usual 'we will talk later' look.

Rolling my eyes, I laid back down on the grass- hoping that this all will end soon. Maybe I should skip my workout? Or maybe tone down on my studying? No, I have to keep this up, or I'll fall behind. But, Zuku is already suspicious of me, and soon, Katsu will be too. Having both of them on my back, nagging me, will be a nightmare.

Thankfully, Amaya hasn't noticed it yet. She will be more protective over me if she ever hears about my routine. Probably be bitched out, just like when I was involved in the villain attack. Yeah, no. I rather not go through that again. I'm just going to cross my fingers that no one will tell her.

Time has passed since then. However, we have already completed four out of the eight tests.

The second test was the grip test. There was no use for my quirk, so I did as best as I could. Can you believe that someone got 540 kilograms?! It was the guy with the mutation quirk that gave him extra limbs. I think his name was Shoji? Man, it was so cool seeing that!

The third test was the standing long jump, jumping over a giant sandpit to see how far you got before touching the ground. Of course, I used my quirk, stopping the time and walking around the box before disabling it.

What? Can I not be lazy?

Anyway, Katsu, of course, used his explosions to get across, clearing the test. Another dude just lasered his way through, a quirk that was obviously called navel laser.

I'm not going to judge, but that one is weird.

The fourth test was the repeated sidesteps and boy that tired me out a lot. So I decided to use my quirk, enabling and disabling it over and over again. I was even able to keep up with that purple guy, who was bouncing off his balls. Okay, just thinking that makes me giggle a little bit. Stupid dirty brain! It was pretty cool to see, though!

Now, it was in the middle of the fifth test. Most of the students have already gone, leaving Zuku, a girl with a bubbly attitude, and I left. She stepped up, holding the ball in her hands before throwing it. All of us waited for the ball to drop, but it never did.

Hearing a beep come from Aizawa, everyone looked.

"Infinity!" Even I yelled out, along with the rest of my classmates.

Jeez! That's impressive!

"That's insane! How's that possible?"

"Next up is (L/N)!" Putting her hands together, the ball dropped in front of her. Picking it up, the girl walked up to me and placed the softball in my hands.

"Good job... Erm-"

"Ochako Uraraka!" She smiled, clasping her hands, "Good luck!" Nodding, I walked past her and stood in the circle.

I already have a plan, but honestly, I didn't know if it would work. Being already tired, I knew that I was pushing myself, definitely after those god damn sidesteps. So I enabled my quirk, focusing on the ball before throwing it straight up in the air.

"Time Barricade!" The ball froze midair, turning a grayish color while everything else was still in motion. I kept an eye on the ball, afraid that if I lose my focus that it would just disable it.

"It's not moving!"

"That's not going to get a big score..."

"What is she thinking?!"

At this point, my body was shaking- trying to hold my control. Just a little bit longer-

A different sound echoed through the area, almost breaking my concentration. I didn't dare to look, knowing that the ball would continue its time if I did.

"Error? The tracker cannot be found?" I heard Mr. Aizawa stated in confusion, reading off his device, "Please reconnect..."

"How?!"

"The ball is right there!"

"So her quirk isn't teleportation?" Sighing, I disable my quirk, seeing the ball turn back to its normal color. It continued its course upwards before gravity took it down, landing directly in my hand.

"Correct!" I turned around, looking at everyone, "I'm surprised that you just figured that out." I walked over to Zuku before placing the ball into his hands. His green eyes showed amazement, sparkling in the sun as he stared at me. Before I could say anything, Zuku snapped out of his state and grabbed onto the ball. Smiling one last time, I walked away to Katsu, who was standing in front of the students.

"Nice trick that you pulled there, Glitchy," Katsu said, now looking directly at me, "Impressive."

"I guess," I shrugged before leaning my head on his arm, "It took a lot out of me, though."

"What are you doing?" He raised his eyebrow, looking at me with a little bit of worry.

"Shut up. I'm tired." Closing my eyes, I leaned closer to him- using him to keep me up straight due to my exhaustion.

"Tsk!" Katsu moved his arm, putting it over my shoulder, making my head lay against the side of his chest, "Just don't fall asleep on me, got it? You're lucky that I'm willing to do this for you." I hummed in response, hearing his heartbeat in my ear.

"If Midoriya doesn't shape up soon, he's the one going home." I felt Katsu tense up, feeling him shift beside me, but he still held onto me.

"Huh? Of course, he is. He's a Quirkless loser!"

"He has a Quirk," I heard Lida reply, making Katsu's heartbeat race faster, "Did you not hear about what he did in the entrance exam?"

"Huh?!" His grip tightened around me, pulling me in closer toward him. By the sound of his voice, I could tell that he was starting to get pissed off and was confused.

A couple of minutes passed by before everything was set up again. Apparently, Mr. Aizawa had to reconnect the softball tracker again since it didn't reconnect. Now, it was time for Zuku to throw the ball with his new quirk.

I hope that everything will be fine.

Opening my eyes, I looked in front of me, seeing Zuku stand there in thought. It didn't last, though, now throwing his arm back. I caught a glimpse of his arm glowing, his veins showing through his skin. Then, just as he was about to let go of the ball, it disappeared- making me raise my eyebrow in curiosity.

It wasn't until I realized that Mr. Aizawa enabled his quirk. His black hair was floating alongside his scarf, which was now starting to unwrap itself.

"Uh... What gives? I was trying to use it just now." Then, I heard Zuku's voice call out, making me shift my focus to him.

"I erased your quirk." The sound of gasps filled the air, making me sweatdrop, "The judges for this exam were not rational enough. Someone like you should never be allowed to enroll at this school."

He did not just say that!

Katsu tightened his grip on me more, probably knowing that I was going to do something stupid. It was his way to tell me to shut up without saying anything. However, I also knew that he was holding himself back as well. It was evident due to how his heart was beating.

"Wait, you did what to my‐" Zuku stop midsentence before continuing, "Ah! Those goggles. I know you! You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. The Erasure Hero. Eraser Head!"

"Uh?"

"Eraser? Who's that?"

"Oh, I've heard of him." I took my attention away from those two, looking at the girl with the frog quirk, "I think he works on the down‐low."

"He does," I confirmed, now clutching onto Katsu's sleeve that was around my shoulders, "He's a Pro hero that works mostly at night. Not a lot of people know him, though, because of that."

"Makes sense, Kero."

"You're not ready. You don't have control over your power. Were you planning to break your bones again? Counting on someone else to save your useless body?"

"No! That's not what I was trying to do!" Zuku replied to Mr. Aizawa before he was pulled closer to him by his scarf.

"HEY-" I felt someone cover my mouth with their hand, cutting me off. It was Katsu, who was looking down at me, giving off his famous glare to tell me to shut up and listen.

"No matter what your intentions are, you would be nothing more than a liability in battle." Mr. Aizawa continued, ignoring what I was going to say, "You have the same reckless passion as another overzealous hero I know. One who saved 1,000 people by himself and became a legend.
But even with that drive, you're worthless if you can only throw a single punch before breaking down."

Hearing that broke my heart a little bit, but what he said was true. However, it was evident that it hurt Zuku. For most of his life, he was told that he was useless. That he couldn't do what he wanted because he didn't have a quirk. Now that he has one, he is still being treated the same way. I just want to protect him, but I know that I can't. So I decided on my next option, hyping him up!

So by using some of the energy that I have left, I enabled my quirk- waiting for everything to turn colorless before walking up to Zuku- phasing through Katsu's arm.

"Zuku..." I said after tapping him three times, not sure what to say next.

"(Y-Y/N)?!" He looked around, now noticing the surroundings around us, "W-Why did you-"

"It looked like you needed it," I sadly smile, looking into his green eyes, "The things that he said were harsh, but he was blunt and honest. It just pained me to see you like this, so I thought that I would cheer you up!"

"You didn't have to do that..." Zuku mumbled under his breath, but I was still able to hear him, "But thank you. You always know how to cheer me up, (Y/N)." He closed his eyes before smiling at me.

The very same smile of when I first became friends with him. It made my heart melt and start beating faster. So innocent and so pure that it even radiated off of him, making me return the smile. The things I do for people make me happy- even if I'm drowning in my own sorrows.

"Anything for you, broccoli boy," I giggled before turning around, "I believe that you can do this." Before I disabled my quirk, I returned to my position. The position of where Katsu's arm was around my shoulder and his hand was covering my mouth. I gave Zuku a thumbs up, now disabling my quirk.

"I've returned your impractical Quirk." Mr. Aizawa disabled his quirk, still staring at Zuku, "Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with." Katsu lowered his hand away from my mouth, now realizing that I wasn't going to argue anymore.

"Mm..." I turned my attention back at Lida, "I wonder if our teacher gave him some advice."

"Probably told him to start packing." Then, not liking his comment, I elbowed him in the ribs, "What the hell, Glitchy!"

"Just because you don't like him doesn't mean you know him, Katsu," I closed my eyes before continuing, "I know you guys used to be childhood friends, but Zuku's different now. All he needs to do is to show off how far he has come. So watch and shut up." By the time that I finished talking, Zuku was already throwing the softball.

"SMASH!"

The ball bolted in the air, creating rings of compressed air around it. Everything paused, feeling the wind whip through my hair. All of us were watching the ball finally making its way back down on earth. It bounced a couple of times before stopping, making my face curl up into a smile. Turning my head towards my teacher, his face was staring down at his screen.

"Mr. Aizawa..." I looked over at Zuku, who held put his hand into a fist, seeing a badly bruised pointer finger, "You see? I'm still standing."

"He threw it over 700 meters!" Sadly, I couldn't hear Mr. Aizawa talk due to the rest of my classmates talking over him.

"Nice, he's finally showing us his true power!"

"But his finger appears to be broken now. Just like in the exam. This Quirk is very odd."

"It wasn't a very pretty throw." It wasn't until I felt Katsu shaking that I blocked out the rest of the student's voices.

Katsu was in shock, his eyes and mouth wide open. At first, he looked surprised, but it quickly turned into anger. Unwrapping his arm around me, he let his arm drop down to his sides. Tiny little explosions were coming from his hands. His target of anger was Zuku, and he was ready to attack.

"I'm getting to the bottom of this." He growled under his breath, so I can only hear.

"Kat- KATSUKI!" I yelled, seeing him sprint toward Zuku. It took a minute for the broccoli boy to notice Katsu, but he froze in terror when he did.

"Deku, you bastard! Tell me how you did that, or you're dead!" At this point, Zuku was screaming, making me take action. Enabling my quirk, I ran over to the poor green-hair boy.- wrapping him up in a hug before starting the time again. I closed my eyes as I waited for the explosion to come our way- me, hopefully, taking the full blast of it.

"What?!" Hearing Katsu saying that, I turn my head to the side and reopened my eyes, "Why the hell is your damn scarf so strong?" From what I could tell, straps of the scarf wrapped around his forehead and his torso- holding him back from attacking Zuku.

"Because it's a capture weapon made out of carbon fiber and a special metal alloy." I heard Mr. Aizawa's voice echo around us, "Stand down. It'd be wise to avoid making me use my Quirk so much. It gives me serious dry eye." Turning my attention over towards Zuku, I looked up. Our noses were barely touching, making me realize how close I am. Forcing down my blush, I backed away before smiling at him with my eyes closed.

"You okay?"

"Y-Yeah, besides my broken finger," Zuku stuttered, "T-Thank you!"

"No problem, Zuku," I tilt my head to the side before opening my eyes, "After school, let's get that checked out, okay?" Turning my heel, I saw Katsu frozen, looking at us angrily.

I slowly made my way over towards him, careful not to anger him more. Times like these, you can't rush things for him. If you do, his anger will be directed towards you even if you aren't the one who he is angry at. His red eyes were studying me, trying to see when he can attack me with his hostile words.

Though all I did was smile, not daring to lose eye contact with him. Slowly, I raise my hand to his, interlacing them between mine before walking back to the class- with him dragging along behind me. The looks of the students were in shock, mouths gaping open as they stared at us two.

Feeling his grip on my hand tighten, I started running my thumb across Katsu's hand- knowing that it is slowly calming him down and is regaining his senses. But, honestly, I'm surprised it worked. Maybe it's just because he was holding back at yelling at me, making it easier to calm himself down?

The world may never know.

"You knew..." I stopped in my tracks, barely able to catch Katsu's words, "You knew, didn't you?" His voice was soft, which was weird since he was just angry beforehand. Turning my head to him, I smiled. Hoping that I can reassure him in whatever he is going through.

"I know a lot of things, Katsu," I plainly state, raising my eyebrow just a bit, "I just don't know what you are referring to-"

"Alright, let's start up the next round of tests!" Before I could continue, Katsu ripped his hand away from mine before walking away from me.

All I did was stare at him, his back facing me as he stuffed his hands into his pockets.

My face fell into a neutral expression as thoughts spiraled around my head. However, I knew it wasn't the time to figure it out. So, I pushed them away before following the rest of the class to the next set of tests.

The rest of the tests ran somewhat normally since there were only three left. However, I decided to use my quirk for the rest of them, barely. There was no point to really use it since it was just a distance run, seated toe-touches, and sit-ups. I already was at least in the top five so, why should I even try anymore?

My body was already sore from my quirk usage and doing physical tests. On top of that, I have to keep my routine up. To prove to myself that I can do this so that no one can tell me differently.

Now, all of us stood in front of our homeroom teacher after finishing up. I didn't dare to look at what I got because I would feel down about myself. Instead, I looked at others, trying to figure out which one is which so I don't screw up their names. My eyes land on the last place name before looking over to him.

Izuku Midoyria got last place...

"And I was lying. No one's going home." Mr. Aizawa's voice cut through my thoughts, making me look over towards him, "That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests." I rolled my eyes as most of the students yelped in shock.

"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out." Then, finally, the girl right next to me said, "I'm sorry. I guess I probably should have said something."

"I thought I was the only one," I giggled, closing my eyes as I put my hand to cover my mouth, "It was pretty obvious."

"That's it. We're done for the day. Pick up a syllabus in the classroom. Read it over before tomorrow morning."

And just like that, our first day of school was done.

We were currently changing, taking off our gym uniforms, and going into our school attire. Of course, the boys were separated into different locker rooms. Thank god for that. I don't know how long I could last with that purple stack guy staring at me. It was getting to the point that I was going to beat the shit out of him.

"Good job, (L/N)!" I turned my head over towards the voice, seeing the black-haired girl that I was standing next to earlier, "Second place, isn't too bad. Though I think you could have been in first if you used your quirk on the fifth test."

"Nah," I pushed my arms through the blazer sleeves, putting it on, "At that point, it wouldn't be fair for the rest of you guys. You did awesome too... Erm-"

"Momo Yaoyorozu," She took out her hand, waiting for me to shake it, "It's nice to make your acquaintance," I took her hand in mine before shaking her hand firmly.

"Same goes for you."

"Hey, if you don't mind me asking..." Yaoyorozu let go of my hand, letting her arm fall to her side, "Are you related to (F/N) and (M/N) (L/N), by any chance?"

"Those are my parents," I sweatdropped, turning my head away from her to put on my black thigh-high socks, "If you want an autograph, you're out of luck. They passed away a while ago."

"Oh! I didn't mean to offend you!" Her voice was evident in nervousness, "I was just curious, that's all!"

"You didn't," I grabbed my shoes after I finished with the socks, putting them on my feet, "Not that many people know from what I could tell. Everyone kept it on the down-low since, telling people that they retired. I don't give a shit and tell people the truth." Standing up straight, I smiled- hoping that she didn't think that I was angry with her.

"Again, sorry about that."

"Don't sweat it," I chuckled, grabbing my book bag before shutting and locking my locker, "Wanna head back to class together to grab those syllabi?"

"Sure-"

"Hey! Can we come too!" Turning my head, I saw the rest of the girls fully ready with their book bags on them.

"Sure, the more, the merrier!"

And so we went, us girls as a group, heading over to our homeroom class.

I got to know most of the girl's names, thankfully, so I don't have to nickname everyone. Well, mostly name them because of their quirks- probably on how Katsu would do it. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if he did do that since he did nickname me Glitchy.

Just by the thought of that name, I glitched.

"Woah!" One of the girls yelled as I heard my bookbag drop to the ground.

"Sorry!" I replied, turning around to pick it up from the ground, "When I overuse my quirk, that tends to happen."

"That's so cool!" My eyes drifted towards Ashido, who was waving her arm up and down in the air, "Does it hurt?"

"Sometimes," I shrugged, putting my bookbag on my shoulders again, "It's like when your leg falls asleep, but all over your body."

"That sounds annoying." Hagakure replied, pushing the door open to the classroom, "I hate when my leg falls asleep."

"Doesn't everyone?" Jiro shook her head as all of us walked in.

Most of the boys were in the classroom, talking amongst each other. The only ones I didn't see were Zuku and Katsu, which wasn't surprising. Zuku was probably in Recovery Girl's office, getting his broken finger healed up. Katsu probably went home, pissed off about Zuku's quirk and maybe me. I might as well ask the boys to see if my assumption was correct.

I scanned the room before looking at two students in particular. One of them had spikey red hair that stood up- the one with the hardening quirk. The other boy had blonde hair with a black bolt streak in it- the electricity guy that turns dumb. Sadly, I didn't remember their names, so I walked over to them.

"Um, hey," I tapped one of the guy's shoulders, making them both turn around in my direction, "Do you know where Katsu or Zuku are?"

"Who?" The blonde replied, raising their eyebrow in confusion.

"Sorry! I mean Bakugo and Midoryia. I forgot that you don't know them by those nicknames of mine." I awkwardly rubbed my neck with my hand, looking at them sheepishly.

"Oh! Bakubro went home, and Midoryia is in Recovery Girl's office," The red spikey-haired guy answered, giving off a toothy smile, "Hey, aren't you Bakubro's girlfriend or something?"

"W-Wha?" That question caught me off guard, making my eyes widen, and cheeks flushed, "No!"

"Man," The blonde put this fingers up to his chin in thought, "We just thought that you two were together because you were able to calm him down."

"Yeah! After he ran after Midoyria, he was standing there pissed. You went up to him like it was nothing, grabbed his hand, and walked back to us! That was so womanly of you to do!"

"Eh?" I sweatdropped, "Zuku and Katsu are my bestfriends. I have known them since Junior High because I transferred into their classes."

"Transferred?"

"I moved back to Japan a little over a year ago," I shrugged, "I ended up testing out of my grade and the next one, so I was enrolled into Katsu and Zuku's classes."

"How old are you?" Both boys asked, making me realize that the rest of the class is listening in.

"I'm twelve years old." All of the boys gasp in shock, eye-widening with amazement. The girls, however, already knew how old I was, so all they did was giggle.

"You do not look like a twelve-year-old!" Chuckling, I wiped the tears out of my eyes since they were starting to block my vision.

The conversation got cut short when the sound of someone's phone ringing. However, I knew that it was my phone due to the specific ringtone that I gave Amaya. So, taking the phone out of my pocket, I answered.

"Hi, Amaya!"

"Hey, sweetie!" From the sounds of it, she was outside where there were a lot of people nearby, "Is your first day done?"

"Yeah," Turning around, I went to the table with all the syllabi, "I'm in the classroom grabbing the syllabus."

"Okay. Well, I am getting onto the train right now, so I'll be there in fifteen to twenty minutes."

"Alright, see you soon!" I smiled as I grabbed the stabled pieces of paper, "I love you."

"Love you too, (Y/N)" After clicking the end button, I looked up, "What?"

"Why do you call your mom that?"

"She's my stepmom," I corrected, opening up my book bag to stuff my papers in, "She has been there my entire life, but it doesn't seem right to call her mom all the time."

"Why is that, Kero?" Then, looking up, I saw that Tsu was the one who asked the question.

"I don't really know what a 'mom' is supposed to be since mine passed away a long time ago," I shrugged, zipping up my book bag to place onto my shoulders, "It's different when you see someone being motherly towards their own child than it is when they treat you as their own. There is more of a connection difference, but not by much. That doesn't mean that I don't love her as if she was my own mother."

"Sorry if I-" I held my hand up, cutting them off midsentence.

"Enough with the apologizing, will you guys?" I smiled before dropping my hand, "This is the first day, and we just met. It's okay to ask questions. Anyway, I will see you guys tomorrow!"

"See ya!" I slid the door behind me after saying our goodbyes, now making my way through the school.

Thoughts swarmed my head as I kept walking, thinking about soft Katsu's voice was when he asked if I knew. He sounded so off when those words came out as if he was re-evaluating everything on if this whole time; Zuku had a quirk but didn't tell him. I should talk to Zuku about this.

Sadly, my thoughts were interrupted as I felt my body hit something.

My body reacted, activating my quirk without my permission before falling backward onto the ground. Everything was black and white, meaning that I must have frozen everything due to the shock. Looking up, I saw that it was Zuku- his body looking like he was about to fall backward too.

Getting up onto my feet, I grabbed his wrist and continued time again.

"WOAH-"

"Hey, I got you," I giggled, tightening my hold on his wrist, "Looks like we both didn't see where we were going."

"(Y-Y/N)?!" His green eyes widen as pink overflooded his face, "I'm so s-sorry! I should have been watching where I was walking!"

"It's fine," Letting go of his wrist, I adjusted the strap of my bookbag, "It isn't the first, nor will it be the last. So don't worry, your pretty little head of yours."

"O-Okay!" Zuku put his hand up to his neck, rubbing it nervously as if something was on his mind, "H-Hey, Um..."

"What is it?" I tilted my head to the side as curiosity got the better of me.

"A-About earlier," Lowering his hand, a smile appeared on his face as his eyes bore into mine, "Amaya said that I could come over anytime for dinner, right?"

I nodded, waiting for him to continue.

"Is tonight okay?"
