Rona

Rona sat on the shore of her island. She came from the Hundred Isles and spent lots of time with her best friend Niri. But Niri couldn't swim, or walk for that matter, so the two would sit and chat. Niri was one year older than Rona and she had summoned a spirit animal. Not just any spirit animal. She had called Mulop. Rona wished for a spirit animal, but she was almost 14 so the chances were looking slim. Today she was on the beach with Niri watching Mulop swim, his tentacles rippling as he moved. Then there was a blinding flash of light and next thing she knew they were joined on the beach by a dog. It was small and fluffy. Rona's whole body tingled. The dog jumped up on her. The tingling stopped, and Rona felt that the dog was a girl and that she didn't like the water. For a second she was able to hear everything: the quiet surprised gasp of Niri, the gentle lap of the waves and the swish of the dog's tail through the air. "Rona" said Niri. "Yeah?" she replied, stroking the dog. "You just called a spirit animal." Rona looked down at the dog. "I did!" she said. Then she stood up, helped Niri to her cart and ran to the village, where her Queen Kalani was talking to her parents. She showed them the dog and Kalani arranged for her to go to Greenhaven.
