Nukpana

"Right, so if you do the begging widow thing and I'll pretend to be a servant, Pan, you slip through when I open the door. They'll all be distracted by your mother" said Pan's father as they approached the building. Pan's mother waited till his father was able slip in, but he'd never be able to reach the gold they were after. Pan's mother knocked on the door and started wailing, then his father opened the door as he and the other new servants came to see what was going on. Pan entered the building. It was a grand place but he didn't have time to look around. He headed straight to the mine tunnels and wriggled along them. He found the gold store but there was too much to carry. He decided to get as much as he could. He stuffed his bag and his pockets then slipped out, shoving his full bag in front of him. He reached the exit and was creeping unnoticed through the shadows when a bright flash lit up his location. Damn it! he thought as everyone turned to look at him. His whole body was tingling. Then he saw a bird, a black vulture flapping in front of him, and extended a gold filled hand to the bird, who perched on it, almost making him drop his gold. Then he felt a sudden surge of instinct and he ran faster than he should be able to. He'd seen his dad pull off that trick before using his vulture. He rounded the corner and his dad met him running. They only stopped briefly to give his mum the signal before they returned home. "Well done, Pan, you called a spirit animal" said his father proudly. I did, realised Pan. He tried to tell the bird to do something but he didn't notice. In fact, all he seemed to want to do was impress everybody. Pan knew what would impress him: if the bird did something. But he loved it anyway.
