===BEGINNING OF TRANSCRIPT===
-door clicks--hushed whispering-footsteps-
A: Oh. Is he... sleeping?
-REDACTED NAME-: Looks like it. -chair screech- Wake him up.
A: My pleasure. -footsteps--loud metallic bang-
B: Ah! -feet shuffling--chait falling--laboured breathing- S-SIR!
A: No need to salute. I'm not defense.
-REDACTED NAME-: At ease, Corporal.
B: SIR!
-REDACTED NAME-: Stop yelling.
B: SI-Sir, i-I'm sorr-I mean, I apologize for being asleep and uh-
A: Apologies should be ours. -footsteps- You must have been waiting for a while.
B: It's not the waiting, sir. It's my constitution. It's in my report, sir.
-REDACTED NAME-: Is that so? Hmm... the tablet does show that.
A: Interesting. -chair screech--exhale- Take a seat, Corporal.
B: Yes, sir! -footsteps--chair being picked up--exhale- Apologies for my manners, sir.
A: It's okay. You can't help it. We understand your... unique circumstances.
B: Thank you, sir. It won't happen again, sir.
A: So, Corporal, can you tell me how you got that bruise on your face?
B: We got in a fight, sir.
A: Well, that's obvious but I'm asking more about the circumstances.
B: After the live news coverage of Terra ended, we decided to turn ourselves in for questioning because we figured someone might come for us. While leaving, we got cornered by some of the residents of the building. We just protected ourselves.
A: And I'm sure the video will show that too?
B: Yes, sir. They were asking questions about Terra and if we'd know she was planning this.
-REDACTED NAME-: Did you?
B: No. We're all close friends who would die for each other if needed, but... No, Terra never let us in on anything she was planning. We didn't even know she was planning something. She seemed to be... She seemed to be returning to who she used to be lately.
A: She is clearly just a good actor. She had us all hoodwinked, not only your team... I didn't see any bruises on Corporal Rush. Are you the only one hurt?
B: -nervous laugh- Rush and Mikhail are both better and stronger fighters than us.
-REDACTED NAME-: Us?
B: Us... Me and uh- Terra. She's the weakest... was the weakest.
A: And I assume her unique constitution led to that as well?
B: That's correct. She has hollow bones. She could shatter a bone with half the strength it would take to make a crack one of ours. We used to teach her mostly defensive fighting tactics, along with some mid-range weapons like batons or staffs.
-NAME REDACTED-: Ah, yes. She did use batons during her time in New Artoca. Good job.
B: It was all Mikhail's training, sir. He gave the baton to her as a Christmas gift.
A: That's very... thoughtful. Anyway, since you say you're the weakest in the time, why haven't you used all these years to build up some strength and muscle?
B: I can't, sir.
A: That's just pure laziness and pessimism speaking. You can do-
B: No, sir. You misunderstand me. I am physically unable to gain any more muscle or weight than this. I've tried everything.
A: I... see. I suppose that does make your life a bit difficult.
B: I can take care of myself when needed, sir.
-REDACTED NAME-: Your after-action reports clearly say so. Great prowess in using knives. Did you teach any of these to your friends?
B: Rush and Mikhail were never interested. Terra learnt knife-throwing from me.
-REDACTED NAME-: Is she any good?
B: Her aim is as good as her sniping.
A: Interesting. So, Keelan, I-may I call you Keelan?
B: Yes, sir.
A: Keelan, tell me what you know.
B: About what, sir?
A: Anything about Terra. Anything that might have stood out or seemed odd or unusual about her. Was she sleeping different hours, did it seem like she was hiding something, was she sneaking around- stuff like that.
B: Terra was different after her parents passed away, sir. It didn't seem like she would be returning to who she once was up until she returned from New Artoca. This might not sound right, but going to New Artoca really helped her. We-I mean, the three of us- talked about how she might eventually return to normal until... this happened.
A: So, you had no idea either of what she was planning?
B: No, sir. We were around enough for her after her parents died because we had to work and she was suspended. During the time we were away, she was going to a grief counsellor and he recommended that she reconnect with old acquaintances- people from her past to help her remember her parents better and move forward. The people in Section C and D were... have been more involved in her life for the past month or so.
-REDACTED NAME-: So, Terra never came to you for advice, or help, or anything? Either of you?
B: I... No, she didn't.
A: Say what's on your mind, Keelan. It's not good to hide something from us. You'd rather we not find out on our own.
B: I... It's rather inconsequential, sir.
A: To you, perhaps. To us, it might disclose something about her we didn't know.
B: Uh... it's just... something we talked about.
-REDACTED NAME-: Go on.
B: She... I found her sitting by the pool a week back. We sat down and talked and she spoke about second chances and third chances. About how working for the State could be a third chance because going to work for the Rebellion was the second. And how if she hadn't taken that, she would've died on an operating table like countless others. Then she talked about getting revenge on her parent's killers. She... She said she had no more leads to follow. That it was all a dead end and she didn't know what to do anymore.
-REDACTED NAME-: And what did you say?
B: I... I called it an obsession. Told her it would get her killed. And...-silence--muffled sniffing-
A: Do you need a tissue?
B: No... No, I'm fine. It's just... -clears throat- nothing. I told her it was an obsession, that it would get her killed and that revenge isn't the best options because she's worked so hard to get where she is and convince the State of how her past is just the past. That she's changed and is fully dedicated to the State.
A: -chuckle- I don't know who's more deluded at this point- you or Terra. She really had you all fooled, didn't she?
B: We know Terra. She doesn't kill without a reason.
A: This shit again...
B: I'm not making this up. Terra does not enjoy killing. Everything she does has a reason to it. If she killed Li... If she killed that man, there has to be a reason behind it.
A: You do know accusing a Sponsor, dead or not, is covered by the same State Statute's that cover treason?
B: Yes, sir.
A: So, you're willing to accuse Lionel Mackenzie the Eighth- Sponsor, philanthropist, CEO of Mackenzie Corporation and a very generous State donor of... what, exactly?
B: I'm not the investigator, sir.
A: Ah-hah... Haha, cheeky one, aren't you?
B: Sorry, sir.
A: You better be. We're your seniors.
-REDACTED NAME-: I'm his senior. You were never in defense.
A: Don't make the mistake of undermining me during an interrogation, -REDACTED NAME-.
-REDACTED NAME-: You're undermining yourself by attempting to pull rank. Continue the questioning. And Corporal, you did not hear my name. I was never here.
B: Yes, sir.
-REDACTED NAME-: Don't acknowledge my presence either.
B: Uh, okay.
A: Getting back to the question at hand, -exhale- what else can you tell us about Terra? Any acquaintances or frequently visited places we should know about?
B: She's been going to Section D and C a lot lately.
A: And?
B: There's a family there. She helps out one of her friends father. I think the friends either a Rebel or dead.
A: And?
B: There's... a local thug stalking her. He sent her flowers.
A: We're aware. And?
B: Uh... there's a guy on the subway she's friends with. I think his name is Rahul, but those two don't seem to be more than passing acquaintances.
A: We have him in custody. He's a common pickpocket with a rap sheet.
-REDACTED NAME-: So, he was in the system. Nice.
A: It's Section D, everyone's in the system. Do you know anything about that Section C incident she took credit for?
B: What? Wait... what?!
A: You didn't see the video?
-REDACTED NAME-: They turned themselves in before it aired.
A: Ah, I see. Anyway, Terra submitted a video to several media houses blowing the whistle on herself, human experimentations, you freaks, and taking credit for killing HQ Commander Malcolm and the team that raided her parents house.
B: Oh... so she... so she really did it, huh?
A: You knew about this?
B: We talked about it. We figured she'd tell us about it someday so we should give her time but she was adamant about her innocence. It really seemed like she was telling the truth, that she hadn't done it. I'm glad she was the one who took them down. Those guys were real self-entitled assholes. -spits-
A: And you're goin to tell us you had no idea she'd planned this either?
B: We were there when she threatened them in the bar, but we didn't think she'd go and actually do it. We went on a mission and when we came back, she was back in the underground cells on the five charges of murder and arson.
A: So, you three weren't even around when it happened?
B: No. Our exfil transport got delayed by a storm moving in.
A: Do you think you might have been able to stop her, or atleast know what she was planning if you'd been around?
B: I... I'd like to think so. If anything, having us around would've made it tougher for her to plan out anything. We rarely let each other go out alone. And knowing the state Terra had been in for the past few weeks... we never would have left her alone. -drip-
A: So, HQ Commander Mal-
-REDACTED NAME-: Give him some time, -REDACTED NAME-.
A: Are you sure you don't need a tissue?
B: Just... give me a moment to compose myself. -clothes shifting- I'm not crying these lights aren't good for my eyes. They're too strong.
A: Ah, right. Take your... Take your time then.
B: Thank you, sir. I won't be long. -chair shifts-muffled growl-sniffing- Dammit. Fuck. This is embarassing.
-long silence-
B: Sorry for that. My condition makes my eyes water sometimes.
A: I see. You sure you don't need a tissue?
B: I'm fine now. -cough-
-NAME REDACTED-: You guys certainly have some unique quirks.
B: One way to put it. What else is left?
A: How did you finally find out what Terra was doing?
B: We were all chilling in Mikhail's room and switching channels till we spotted Lionel and Terra's face pop up on the screen. We're used to seeing Terra on TV but Lionel is fairly reclusive so it was a surprise. And then it just... went downhill from there.
A: What did you see?
B: We found out around an hour before Terra jumped out of his apartment. We... We couldn't look away from the TV. It seemed like it was mistake. Some kind of a... a nightmare.
A: Well, it's all unfortunately real and true.
B: I wish it wasn't. I... I told Terra that once her ribs are healed we'll start going on missions again and be able to be a normal team again. Now... nothing's going to be normal ever again.
A: Indeed that is true. The world now knows about your existence. The way the public has been handling this is not in your favour. Your friend didn't do you any favours before leaving.
B: She gone?
A: We do believe she's escaped. Someone matching her description was stopped at the State's borders but we're getting a lot of false reports.
-NAME REDACTED-: Coincidentally, most of them are from Section C and D. -exhale- it's such a waste of manpower because we can't verify which reports are real or not. We're stretched thin trying to cover our asses and find Terra.
A: She's become both a hero and a villain in the eyes of the public very quick. There are the usual nutcases pretending to be her, to know her. Media is going crazy scouting out her houses, calling shrinks to build psych profile-
B: You guys need to do something about it.
A: Thank you for the advice. We were just letting ourselves drown in the shit she created.
B: No, I mean, you need to stop this. They're going to make her out to be some kind of a psychopath. She's nothing like that.
A: Is that so? What is she like?
B: Terra's warm, funny and caring. She's always worried about others, always watching out for us whether it's as a sniper or as a friend. She is genuinely one of the best people I have ever known.
A: I see. Do you have feelings for?
B: No. Not at all.
A: Lying to us is not beneficial to you.
B: I... I don't like Terra like that. She's like a sister to all of us.
-NAME REDACTED-: Not to you though.
B: I only think of Terra as a friend.
A: Despite all she's done?
B: I... It will take a while to believe that. Like I said, it feels like a nightmare.
A: It must. The girl you love committed high treason and murdered a friend of yours. Then she vanished into thin air.
B: Like I said, I-
-NAME REDACTED-: -laugh- Keelan, relax. We've all been there in one way or another. No need to hide it from us. We know how you feel. How you would do anything to get her back, to make her notice you, to protect her.
B: You're getting it all wrong. I haven't done anything! She never told me anything!
A: You love her. She must have used that to her advantage in some way.
B: Terra is not like that! She's not some kind of manipulative bitch!
A: Are you sure about that? She has a boyfriend yet you're head over heels for her. -chair creaks- I think, she's told you something. That you're-
B: -table slam--chair screeches- NO! I LOVE TERRA AND I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HER AND TO HAVE HER BACK BUT SHE HASN'T TOLD ME ANYTHING!
A: Interesting.
-NAME REDACTED-: Very.
B: Listen, I-I- -exhale- I do love her. It just happened, I don't know how. But I am telling you the truth when I say she never told me anything. Rush is the one she's closest to. If anyone knows anything it has to be him. He thinks of her as a sister.
A: I see. Rush did mention he's her best friend, but he wasn't told anything either. What about your squad leader?
B: Mikhail? Not a chance.
-NAME REDACTED-: That's rather sad. She doesn't trust her own captain?
B: They do trust each other. But Terra's always been cold to Mikhail, I don't know why. Mikhail is a good captain.
A: Some beef between the two?
B: Like I said, I don't know. Terra is pretty chill with Mikhail when everyone is around but she tries not to be left alone with him.
A: So, how would you describe their relationship?
B: Uh... friendly coworkers who ignore each other outside the workplace?
-NAME REDACTED-: Or maybe... exes?
B: -laughs- Yeah, right. Terra would rather die, and there's no way Mikhail would violate professional boundaries.
A: Keelan, through the course of this interview we've figured out that Terra a good liar and a good actor. How sure are you about that?
B: Does the moon glow?
-NAME REDACTED-: Actually, it reflects the sun-
B: Yes. I am very sure of that. Neither of them would ever dream of it. Terra would gag. -scoff-She always chooses to kill him when we play 'fuck, marry, kill'.
A: And how many times is that?
B: It usually comes up during missions. So, enough times.
A: She ever married you?
B: Most of the... wait, this isn't relevant.
A: Not really, but we're done here. -papers shuffling-Thank you for time, Corporal Roche.
B: We're... done? Already?
-NAME REDACTED-: I don't mind sitting here and listening to the games your team played.
B: I-Thank you for you time, sir.
-NAME REDACTED-: That's what I thought.
A: -chair screech- What a shame. -chuckle- I was looking forward to hearing more about that game you talking about.
-NAME REDACTED-: -chair screech- This was a more fun questioning than I thought.
A: -door opens- Honestly, same.
-NAME REDACTED-: I am kind of looking forward to meeting the captain. -door closes-
B: -exhale--chair squeaks- Mikhail's going to kill me.
===END OF TRANSCRIPT===
Interview Notes:
Mild character, self-esteem low→weak link of the team.
Clearly in love with subject. Could be used to advantage. Discuss further.
Same as Rush- regrets not being close enough
No new information about Section D.
Last one from team to have a proper talk with Terra- excluding the nightclub they went to the night before. No information about that. Not relevant enough according to video as well. Just a hug and small chat.
Was it the talk that pushed her to make the decision? How'd she plan everything in one week?
New information about Mikhail. Rough subject-captain relationship.
Reason- exes, fling made things awkward, prior beef considering the fact that Terra has worked in Section D and Section C (look into it), generic distrust due to her past, mission gone wrong (look into it)
Surprise apparent about Section C fire. Seemed to have believed in her innocence. Need to investigate the terrorist group that claimed credit earlier.
Not a very insightful interrogation. Hope Mikhail has something more. Getting nowhere on Terra.
