After a wild night of being chained in an attic I felt a bliss I had not felt in such a long time. The uncomfortableness of silver chain wristbands and silver collar is all precaution. Mr Blanchard trusts me enough to let me loose among his land but I had felt a need to stay cooped up. Which I as my wolf self do not enjoy in the least. However this morning I began to appreciate things around me and even appreciated Charles though I did not verbally make that clear. One way or another he would suspect it in his unnatural magical way like he suspected that I was ill this morning. That maybe I knocked my head on something which I suppose was fair enough. He nearly had a heart attack when I decided to have a morning stroll in the beautiful world outdoors.
Charles dropped his journal onto the dining table looking at me queerly with his golden hair flopping over his eyes. "Are you serious?"
"Yes." I said pulling on my coat. "I'm heading down to the market."
"Well while you're there buy me some ingredients." He ripped out a page and scribbled down some notes before handling his little mauve pouch with his money. Fed up with counting he passed me the whole bag. "Buy yourself something nice."
"Oh thank you dear husband." I remarked dully.
"It is my duty to care for the ones I love. Now you still haven't told me why you're going out... In the morning. Before noon." He pulled out a golden watch. "Before 10."
"If you're worried I'm going to mark my territory I can relieve on the fact I just marked your carpet up in the attic." And with that I left.
The last time I was this happy it was my fourteenth birthday. It was finally the day my dad would take me hunting with him, with the higher ranks of the Pack. I was finally old enough to earn my place in the pack and I had being anxious to do it. I was determined to make my father pleased with me. I had always wanted to make my father proud of me, I was his favourite and that is why my brother envied me. Everyone had loved me before I had proven myself worthy enough to be a leader, their leader. That was a good day, one of my fondest memories. Who knew new it was all going to be for nothing? I looked at my reflection in some hat shop window and growled at the depressing thought.
"We're all doomed!" Someone shouted knocking into me but with my strength he fell to the ground. And unfazed he shot right back up, the old worm clung onto my shirt as if life depended on it. With a gapped teeth he shouted. "Loup-garou... They're back!" He ripped himself off me. "They'll eat our young!" He screamed a woman and her suitor scaring the young lady and making the gentleman scowl. I looked down at where he fell and noticed a poster with poorly sketched drawing of a demonic wolf and picked it up for further analysis. The loup-garou. I felt nauseous even thinking about them. I haven't seen one of those creatures in years. They're not even real werewolves just demon pups with horrendous diets. They will bite at any flesh they get their fangs on. The close inspection forced my claws to start growing out in anger.
I know I kept myself in check last night of a rich and vicious full moon. Which only means my foolish brother has conquered and scared the hopes out of the humans again.
"Luna..." I whispered worriedly.
~*~*~
My heart beat wouldn't stop racing until I arrived at the gates of Luna's manor. The great black iron gates that I could tear through myself and expected there to be destruction and blood not blooming rose gardens and even a whistling gardener.
I passed him feeling my coat flying out behind me and lightly rapped on the front door with the paper of the Loup-Garou scrunched up in my fist. Please answer the door, please answer the door. I repeated in my mind eagerly and started nervously tapping my foot as I heard footsteps padding towards the door. Much too heavy to be Luna's but I did not expect a young chubby girl around fifteen to answer. She has similarities to Luna like the brown hair and the big eyes but that's all. The rest of young girl's features are so different that maybe if she had a different hair colour you wouldn't guess that she was related to Luna. There is a difference in their scent.
"Hello?" The young girl greeted eyeing at me suspiciously. "Are you here to see my father?"
"No uh..." I stepped back. Yes this is definitely her house. She never mentioned she had a little sister. "Is Luna home?"
"You're here to see Luna?" She questioned shocked.
"I am." I growled.
"How do you know my sister?" She asked excitedly curious.
"I don't." I smiled nodding my head. "Have a good day."
She scowled. "Wait! She's inside. Who are you?"
"Nobody." I backed away from the door.
"But... But that's boring! Tell me! She's not allowed out. She's in trouble again." She said rolling her eyes and shaking her head as if the whole the idea was an inconvinence for her.
"In trouble?" I tried peeking over her head but she used the door to block my view.
She nodded. "Mm-hm."
"Come on you've appealed to my interest now."
"I won't tell until you do."
I challenged her. "Well if you won't tell I'll come in and ask her myself." I tried stepping forward but she blocked me again.
"That's not a good idea..." She whispered then we jumped at the thunderous knocking from a storey up.
"Luna! Open this damned door!" A man roared.
"No thank you!" She yelled back.
"You better open this door young lady or I will break it down!"
"With your fat gut I can believe it!" I perked my brow while I sensed the young girl's humiliation.
"He's going to whip her so bad for that." She muttered to herself not meaning for me to hear but with my wolf senses I did and suddenly got sick again.
"Why you little brat! Bringing strangers into my house then shouting through the corridors like a banshee! What kind of woman did your mother raise you?" Strangers? Did she bring him to her house?
"Oh of course! Blame mother for being born with your short temper!"
"I DO NOT HAVE A SHORT TEMPER HOW DARE YOU INSINUATE SUCH AN OBVIOUS AND DESPICABLE LIE!" The young one turned on me and began to push at my stomach out the door. "As you can hear this is not the best time." I froze in the doorway reluctant to leave and she gazed up at me confused. "I'll mention you dropped by but you must leave." I grunted and glared up at the staircase before stepping out of the house gazing up at the windows. I could climb that.
"What do I call you?" The young one asked me. I leaned forward grabbing the door handle and closed it as a rude awakening. I listened to her bewildered scoff before searching around the house to find Luna's window. I muttered lavender and honey under my breath before I smelt it, her fragrant.
I ran around the house leaping to the second story and grabbing what ledger were designed to stick out. I forced my body to make another jump to the top window and peeked through the curtains to see Luna rushing my way. I swung to the side clinging onto the wall for dear life and she pushed open the glass windows to rest on the window pane. Her long hair fell in waves hiding her completely as the man continued to holler outside her door.
"Luna." I whispered and she screamed in fright smacking her head on the side of the window frame.
"Ow... What doing are you out here?" She growled annoyed then whimpered again rubbing the back of her head.
"Looking at the view." I noticed her tear stained cheeks and dared to ask, "why are you crying?"
"I'm not." She sniffled wiping her eyes. I positioned myself right in front of her gripping onto the window for dear life and tilted in close to analyse her face. She glared down at me over the bridge of her nose holding her head high. "May you remove yourself from my person?"
"I want to talk."
"Yes I know, that's all you ever seem to want to do." She looked over me at the garden. "I would you invite you in but I don't want to."
"Will you walk with me."
She sighed looking at her bedroom door. I caught a glimpse at a scar along her jaw then a scar along the top of her hand. I don't recognise them to be claw marks and acted neutral when she drew back to me. "That is impossible at this very moment."
"I heard." I stated. She looked away with red tinting her cheeks and her brows meeting in anger.
"Curse you and your wolf hearing." I want to tell that it wouldn't have made a difference whether I hard incredible hearing or not, I am exactly sure people heard them all the way in Monaco.
"I'm already cursed now may I come in?" I asked more forcefully.
"In my room? No." She said quickly horrofied by the idea.
I rolled my eyes and a small smile played on my lips. "Are you insinuating that I won't be able to control myself with a bed around?" I smirked. "Surely you would know that if I wanted you in that intense way I would have already ravished you."
She grew redder. "That is the most disgusting thing any man has said to me. Tell me what you want or leave."
"Let me in so I can tell you little girl."
"The only male I want in here is the letter in an envelope kind." Her jaw tensed. "So spit it out or forever hold your peace."
"There's many ways of me getting into that room don't make me do something you and I will both regret." I whispered warningly. She tilted her face forward and despite her red eyes from crying she still managed a cheeky little pout. I have never before seen such a sinister pout them again I have never met a more obvious psychotic female.
"There are." She corrected. I blinked. "Not there's," she continued slowly then she stretched her arms out grabbing the handles of Windows, I became all too aware that it was no longer me creating a tension. Luna's eyes glowed ferociously which was odd because she smiled sweetly. "Use proper grammar if you're going to threaten me." Her warm breath fanned my face then she swung the windows shut and I had to let go to not be hit and fell to the grass floor.
I let her get the best of me. Damn you. This is ridiculous, I'm trying to get through to her and warn her of the dangers but she refuses to listen. I'm the one that saves her from trouble and she shuts me out because she's not in the mood!?
I left the poster on the window sill and sent myself back home. A day beautifully spoiled and yet I felt a smirk rise upon my face when eyes burned holes at the back of my head from a window. I didn't turn to look.
~*~*~
Furiously I paced up and down before the long mahogany dining table. It is filled with treats and delicacies but I'm in no mood for food. The oak paneling makes the room look dark and my friend set it that way so he could use the stone fireplace more often. He has a few decorative paintings and other bits of decor that lighten up the room and everyday there is a different bouqet of flowers in the middle of the table. I am undeniably unsure who puts them there. On the end of the table as if he had not moved since I left sat Charles in a some ruffled white shirt and a blue tailcoat bringing out the blue in his misty grey eyes. His hair was more put together and he had a whole tea set out with a white rabbit pouring it into a tiny little teacup.
I held up another poster and displayed it to him however he didn't faze from his peaceful position. He sat calmly in the dining chair holding a delicate cup of tea with pink roses painted around it, to his lips. The rabbit being uncomfortable in my presence hopped away and that's when I felt the need to begin my cry. "They're calling me the Loup-garou! The Beast of Gevaudan except not in Gevaudan! He wasn't even a real werewolf! He was a demon!" I picked up a vase and threw it at the wall shouting in rage. "HOW DARE THEY COMPARE ME TO SUCH MONSTERS!"
"I loved that vase." He muttered.
"No you didn't." I stated dully.
He shrugged. "Didn't they die out in 1767?"
"I don't know they're in hell somewhere." Except one that my father had kept in the dungeon. I wonder if he is still kept there or if they finally killed it. I winced at the thought of my pack... the pack that doesn't want me. And with that depressing thought a memory flashed before my eyes that was a painful thrust in the chest.
A pair of yellow eyes glared at me but he bared a toothy smile. A smile lathered in blood. I smashed my fists onto the table. Mother lay on the ground behind him, a lifeless body of what once was a powerful and kind woman. A Luna that defied all injustice towards her person. A woman no man would ever dream of murdering. And yet he did. How could he? How could he do that? She was our mother! Not just mine, ours.
"Is something the matter?" Charles asked placing the cup back down on its plate.
"I just thought I should mention they're degrading me to the evil spawns of Satan."
"Uh huh..." He said not convinced then brought the tea cup back to his lips. Is he trying to hide a smile? "So are you going to tell me where you disappearred to off to this morning?"
"Went on a walk." I replied.
He picked up a little pink iced cake. "Go anywhere interesting?"
"What are you getting at Charles?"
"You don't go for walks!" He accused loudly. "Especially early in the morning!"
"Is that all you care about?" I snarled at him fiercely feeling my muscles tense. "I couldn't sleep." I eventually shrugged and paced around again to avoid looking at him, knowing full well he was watching me like a hawk. Analysing all form of movement. He would be able to tell a person lying from staring at their toes. Has not been proven but I am brought to believe that.
"After a full moon you usually sleep until noon." He declared.
"Am I not allowed to be wide awake at dawn?"
"Alright, alright I will bother you no more." He picked up a strawberry still looking like the most feminine male I have been acquainted with. He look a bite hen suck the juice out of it leaving a pink stain on his lips. He did not look at me when he asked. "How is Luna by the way?"
"From this morning she seemed rather..." I froze, I groaned and glared at him as he grinned like the devil at his sucked up strawberry. "I cannot believe I fell for that. You sneaky son of a..."
"My mother was a wonderful woman thank you very much." He kept up the grin and sent me a sideways glance. "I bet Luna is just as wonderful."
"This isn't about some girl."
"You're right this is about you." He excitedly crossing his leg over the other and rested his chin on his and. "Do you think her agreeable?"
"Charles! The loup-garou!" I pointed back at the poster then scrunched it up and threw it at his head.
"That was uncalled for." He smoothed the paper out on the table and giggled. "Look how ridiculously long the tail is."
I snapped without thinking. "She wouldn't let me in! I couldn't warn her of anything because she's such a prude!"
"In where?"
"Her bedroom."
"Mr Knightly she is a lady. A daughter of a Baron." He pointed out amused. "Besides you're not the kind of fellow I would want to bring home to my family either so I'm not surprised she doesn't lack common sense and sensibility." He paused and tilted his head. "Which is odd for her."
"What do you mean? And I never had the intention nor will I ever have the intention of sleeping with her."
"Why not?" He said confused. "I think it would be good for you."
"I am only using her to get to Darius. He is the target not a pretty woman with a big mouth and no filter."
"Ah. So the rumours in court are true." He chuckled to himself. "I would very much like to befriend her. She seems so fascinating."
"What rumours?"
He laughed darkly. "I thought you weren't interested in her?"
"I'm not."
"Then it's not a matter for your ears."
"Charles please just tell me."
"Then admit that you find yourself attracted to her. It's the first step to inner peace. Being truthful with yourself."
"I barely know the woman."
"Last I checked that didn't much matter with you wolves." He muttered under his breath. I picked up another base from the dining table and smashed to the floor. "Now that one was my favourite."
