Round 0 | Date of Fate
Prompt Description:
This is our first short prompt for the activity. What I would like you to do is to write a 300 - 500 word scene about your character in the first person. You'll need to include them going on an app called Date of Fate. Make sure to show their personality.
_____
Maybe I was the problem.
Slumping on the couch, I replayed every laugh, every flirtatious compliment and what happened to make the date end.
"I just want to take things slow whilst I sort out my recording studio—and my life!" I joked, knowing there was some candour in my words.
He bowed his head and pulled a face. I knew what was coming next.
Before I could let him spew some apologies and disgusting ideologies, I threw what remained of my glass of wine in his face. The crimson liquid seeped into his white shirt, making it look like I'd shot him.
Then, I raced out of the restaurant.
I groaned at the memory, sinking further into the couch whilst hoping it would swallow me whole.
Laura slinked out of the kitchen of our shared apartment and handed me one of the tubs of ice cream she'd taken out of the freezer. "Chin up, love," she said in her best cockney accent.
I chuckled, taking one of the tubs out of her hand and nabbing a spoon from her too before beginning to devour it.
"So," Laura drawled. "How did it go?"
"I hate every person on this planet," I spluttered through a gob full of ice cream. "Why does no one want to stay more than one night?"
She shrugged. "They might have a secret space mission they need to go to. You don't know."
Glancing at Laura, it was difficult to get the picture of the giggly and silly school girl I first met in music almost a decade ago. Many things had changed since then, but our friendship wasn't one of them.
"Sure." I smiled wryly.
Laura nudged me. "Don't be like that. You'll find someone."
Humming to myself, I scrolled through the app store desperately searching for any dating apps that might help me search for the one!
Peering over my shoulder, I could feel Laura's eyes piercing through my phone screen until she gingerly pointed at a random app.
"What about that one?"
I rose an arched eyebrow at her. "Date of Fate?" I asked.
She shrugged, nodding.
Sighing, I finally clicked the download button. Once installed, I clicked the 'open app' button to see it pop open on my phone screen.
I began filling in the boxes for my details, agreed blindly to the terms and conditions, and posted the cutest photograph I had. The next screen made me pause.
An empty box was there for my bio, but nothing came to mind. It was like I'd forgotten who I was.
"Come on," Laura's voice broke through my thoughts.
"What should I put?" I whispered.
"Anything and everything about you," she urged.
Nodding dumbly, I typed until a paragraph sat there on my screen. My thumb hovered over the 'submit' button, my eyes flicking over every word until the slightest graze of my skin on the screen made my completed profile pop up. There was no going back now!
