Cipher's Pawn
Alright, this is for WattyFallers and EZ-Dayz's contest #5.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Well, well, well, and here I thought today couldn't get any BETTER," Bill said as he fired a laser at the tower, and it was destroyed a bit later after the beam passed.
The blast shook the whole building; rubble rained down on the two Pines. Ford got up shakily. His eyes widened, and he let out a gasp. "Dipper!" Ford said, horrified.
His nephew laid under a wooden beam and a few more pieces of rubble. Dipper didn't respond to Ford, and his great uncle ran over to get him out. The wood was surprisingly heavy; that worried Ford even more. Since Dipper was only twelve, laying under rubble wouldn't be good for him. Ford groaned as he pushed the largest of the wooden beams of off Dipper.
"Don't worry, Dipper, I'll get you out!" Ford went to push the second beam off of the twelve-year-old, but a dark laugh interrupted him.
"Whaddaya know, it's Six-Fingers and Pine Tree!" Bill chuckled. "It's nice to see my two favorite puppets getting along so well."
Ford looked up and glared at Bill. "Cipher," he growled, "leave my nephew alone." Ford balled up his fists, and stared at Bill. Bill Cipher, Ford's former closest ally, stared back calmly as if the he didn't have a care in the world, which made Ford even angrier. No one messed with his family.
"This is pretty amusing," Bill said calmly. "What do you guys think?" Bill turned to his demon friends, who laughed and giggled in response. Bill turned back around. "Y'know, Sixer, you'd make quite an addition to my friends. With that extra finger and extra IQ, you'd fit right in!"
Ford grit his teeth. "I'd rather die."
Bill laughed. "Hey, I have an idea! Let's ask Pine Tree for his opinion! What do you think, Pine Tree?" Bill leaned forward like he was trying to hear Dipper say something, but Dipper was still unconscious (well, Ford hoped he was.) "Nothing? What a shame."
Ford chose to ignore Bill, and he knelt down beside his nephew. "If you would excuse me, my and I nephew will be going."
"Actually, no you won't." Bill's voice turned deep, and Ford froze. "No, no," Bill said in his normal voice, "you'll be doing exactly what I want."
A strange feeling seeped into Ford, and he wanted to run. But he didn't. Something stopped him.
"Why not join him?" a voice whispered in Ford's head.
"He's the enemy!" Ford thought back.
"The world would be much better, Stanford. Much better."
"Bill . . . he's . . ."
"Bill is the ally. You've always known that."
Ford turned back to Bill. "You're right, Bill," he said in a monotone voice. "I will do everything you want." Beside him, Dipper's eyes fluttered open, just long enough to hear what his uncle said and see him, Bill, and the demons leave before he dropped back into darkness.
~~~
It had been hours since Ford and Dipper left, and they still hadn't returned. Stan was starting to worry about Dipper; Ford, too, but mostly Dipper. Stan would never live with himself if anything happened to his nephew, no matter how much Dipper seemed to dislike him. At least, Dipper acted like he wasn't fond of Stan much; the two of them were always getting into arguments. Nonetheless, Stan wanted his nephew safe.
Knock.
Stan froze, then opened the door. To his surprise, was McGucket and an odd array of magical creatures. "Old Man McGucket . . . ?" he whispered in confusion.
"Stan!" McGucket fidgeted crazily like he normally did. "It's the end times!" He turned to the creatures. "We should be safe in here!"
"Whoa, wait Mr. Crazy!" Stan protested, but the creatures rushed in. "Listen, McGucket, what are you doing?"
"I was preparin' when a rifty-jifty opened up! Then, later, this . . ." McGucket took a deep breath. "Bill," he mustered out. Dreadful flashbacks of the portal flew through McGucket's mind, but he ignored them. "Bill came and a'blew the tower of the chapel apart! Then I saw Stanford leave with them crazy nightmare monsters."
Realization hit Stan. "I gotta go!" He squeezed past McGucket, then ran in the direction of the town.
"Stan! What are ya goin'?! It ain't safe!" the crazy man yelled after him.
~~~
It took Stan a while to get to the fallen chapel. He had to make it across the ruins of the town and avoid all of the new monsters, but once he got to the chapel, Stan didn't hesitate to go inside.
"Dipper!" Stan yelled. He looked all over the bottom half of the building, but saw no traces of his nephew. "Dipper! C'mon, kid! Where are . . . you . . ." Stan paused as he got to what should have been the top of the tower.
Dipper was struggling to free himself. The wooden beam had fallen back onto him, and he looked up to see his other uncle. "Grunkle Stan . . . ?"
Stan walked over. "Okay, kid, let's get you home." He moved the wooden beams off of Dipper, but a rather large rock lay on his foot. Dipper winced as Stan removed the rock off of Dipper.
"O-ow!" Dipper got up slowly. "M-my foot."
Stan grabbed his arm and hoisted Dipper onto his back. "Here, Dipper, just hold on."
"I can walk myself," Dipper grumbled, but he let his uncle carry him. Eventually, Dipper leaned onto Stan and grew a bit drowsy; he would have fallen asleep if he wasn't in pain and stressed.
"So," Stan started awkwardly, "it's the end of the world."
"Yeah . . . ," came Dipper's quiet response.
"Ford joined those weirdos, huh?"
"Grunkle Stan . . ." There was a long pause, then, "I'm scared."
"I know you are, kiddo. Me too."
~~~
Bill's little mind trick had surprisingly worked. Of course, it took a bit to sink in due to the metal plate on Ford's head, but now that Bill was all powerful, he could bypass that stupid plate.
"You having fun, IQ?" Bill asked jokingly.
Ford just nodded.
"Too bad that trick makes you not funny. Now, darling, let's do something about your appearance!" Bill mimicked a human stylist.
Bill snapped and snapped, settling with a black and ripped trench coat, black sash with an one-eyed triangle on the middle, changing the mud on his boots to red, and giving Ford vampire teeth. Bill's former ally looked much better in Bill's opinion.
"You look like you're gonna kill someone!" Bill said like it was a compliment, but Ford still didn't respond. "I guess I have to ask you directly for you to talk . . . Once I take care of your family, I better learn how to give you some personality because you're boring now. Evil, but boring. Now, your powers!" Bill snapped one final time, giving Ford powers of his own. "Let's go party," Bill said darkly.
~~~
Stan dropped Dipper into the yellow chair. Dipper closed his eyes momentarily before opening them again.
"Where's Mabel?" he asked.
Stan shrugged. "She hasn't come back yet."
"She hasn't?!" Dipper leaned back into the chair. "Gosh, you don't think Bill . . . ," Dipper whispered.
Stan shook his head. "Wherever your sister is, I know she's okay."
"I . . . I hope so." Dipper looked down. Now his sister could be in danger, and he was sitting the the Shack. Dipper tried moving off the chair but winced.
"Does your foot hurt?" Stan asked.
Dipper nodded. "A little. I should be able to walk though."
McGucket suddenly barged in. "Stan! What did ya brother do to this place? It's got some kind of magic-y field!"
"McGucket?" Dipper asked.
"Dipper!" McGucket literally scurried up to the twelve-year-old. "Where's your other uncle? I gotta talk to 'em!"
Dipper frowned, then looked away angrily. "He's will Bill," Dipper spat.
McGucket frowned. "I saw Stanford leave with them. I didn't think he'd join 'em!"
"Me either. I guess we were both wrong . . ." Dipper sighed.
Stan stepped between the two. "Okay, let's ignore my idiotic nerd of a brother. We need to find everyone we know and make sure that they are okay."
Dipper nodded. "Y-yeah. Hopefully they all avoided the eye-bats . . ."
Stan put his hand on Dipper's shoulder. "You might need to stay here."
"What?!" Dipper protested. "I'm fine!"
"You were trapped under a building for a while! You need to rest!"
"Yeah, but I know how to fight Bill!" Dipper challenged.
"If it wasn't for me, you could have died! And I'm not letting any more of my family get hurt because of me!" Stan shot back.
Dipper just stared his great uncle. "I don't want anyone to get hurt either, Grunkle Stan."
"Just stay here," Stan said with a frown.
"Okay." Dipper nodded after a long pause.
McGucket had been messing with a random gadget of his while the two Pines has bickered, and he looked up. "Yeah, we need someone to keep all them critters in line. You know how to deal with 'em, so you'd be the best, Dipper."
Dipper's only response was a nod.
~~~
Ford had no idea what was going on, or where he was. He stood up shakily, and then memory clicked on.
He was in his mindscape.
"Cipher!" Ford yelled in frustration. There was no response.
Ford grit his teeth and began to pace. What did Bill do to him? Obviously he was in his mindscape, but why was he? How was he? Was his body just laying unconscious back in the ruins of the town? Ford knew the answers were not going to be good.
"You got that right!"
Ford turned around to see the one and only Bill Cipher, who was twirling his cane like he didn't have a care in the world. "What do you want?!" Ford spat.
Bill laughed. "Well, right now you're basically my puppet--again--except you don't really talk, and you're boring . . . I'll let out when I know I can trust you. Can't exactly have you ruining my dear plans!"
"And what are those plans?"
"Like I'm gonna tell you, Sixer." Bill rolled his eye. "But I will keep you updated on what's happening."
"What about Dipper?" Ford questioned worriedly.
"Pine Tree? Left him."
"You left him?" Ford said in a horrified voice. "He could die!"
"I know." Bill leaned on an imaginary wall. "Why else would I leave him under some rubble?"
Ford gave Bill a look of pure hatred. "So, you're going to keep me here forever?"
"Until you learn to join my side."
"I won't!"
"I can make your body do what I want it to, you know."
"Unless I fight back. You know that I can free my mind eventually. Metal plate." Ford smiled smugly.
Bill returned Ford's smug look (well, he didn't smile). "Oh, I'll have enough time to do what I need by the time you escape, and I will make you do what I want. I would also like to inform you that Dipper is safely in the Shack now. Your brother found him."
"If my family is safe, then you can't make me do anything you want."
"Actually, two Pines are in the Shack. One Pines is standing in front of me. I may or may not be a whiz at math, but two plus one is three, and there are four Pines if I'm not mistaken."
Ford's expression darkened.
"And I know exactly where the fourth is."
"You're lying. I know Mabel is safe," Ford growled.
Bill chuckled. "For now, she's safe. But she's in her own Bill-made prison, so I can get her at any time."
Ford glared at Bill. "Prove it."
"I will."
~~~
Mabel was not In Mabel Land. She woke in a strange room. It was decorated lavishly, with a weird couch and a painting depicting Bill Cipher wearing a crown. Mabel moved forward, and she heard the clink of chains. She glanced down. A neon blue chain wrapped around Mabel's ankle, clinking when she moved to glance at it closer.
"What . . .? This is definitely a messed up nightmare. I bet I'm back in good ol', sparkly ol' Mabel Land," the sweater-loving girl reassured herself. "I mean, what else could be happening here?"
"Oh, you know, the infamously handsome Bill Cipher could have you captive, and he could threaten your life so that Mister IQ would finally turn to the dark side," came an eerie voice.
Mabel twirled around to see Bill floating behind her. "You! What was that weirdo space thing? And why would you say something extremely specific like that?"
"Because it's true! Ain't that right, Sixer?" Bill nudged Ford, whom Mabel hadn't really noticed till Bill pointed him out.
"Grunkle Ford?" Mabel said in a confused voice.
Ford opened his mouth to speak, but Bill interrupted him. "Well, you see, Pine Tree is protected inside the weird place you call home, so I can't torture him, but I can torture you since I pretty much had you captive anyways."
Mabel stared wide-eyed Bill and Ford.
Ford nodded grimly. "What he's saying is true. I'm sorry, Mabel, but . . . I guess I'm on his side now." Ford turned back to Bill. "At least send her back to the Shack."
"Nope! It's back to Mabel Land it is! We had a deal, Shooting Star," Bill said. "Now, about you wondering if this is a messed up nightmare, I guess it is!" Bill laughed darkly.
"What do mean . . ." Suddenly Mabel's head pounded. Then she dropped into darkness.
~~~
Mabel shot up. She was back in Mabel Land, no doubt, but her outlook on the place changed. Mabel didn't like the rainbow world anymore. Now that she knew what Bill was planning, she wanted to be with Stan and Dipper. Mabel had to warn them.
She got up, and ran out of the castle, ignoring all the happy yells she got.
"Wassup, Mabel Dawg?" Dippy Fresh yelled.
"Not now, Dippy!" Mabel snapped. After her dream, she wasn't too fond of Dippy Fresh; now she wanted her real brother.
Finally, Mabel reached the edge of Mabel Land. She tried stepping through the strange walls, but only smacked into them. Mabel rubbed her forehead, and her frowned deepened.
"This thing is covered in chains?!" she said irritably. Mabel sighed. "I guess I really am captive . . ."
~~~
Ford woke up, then realized he was in his own body. He smiled with triumph, but Bill barged in and ruined everything as usual.
"One Pines twin with a weird dream, one to go!" Bill said cheerfully.
"What are you talking about?" Ford wasn't really paying attention. He was glad that he was in his own body, not the mindscape, but something still felt a little off.
"Oh, I gave Shooting Star a dream where you told her that you were on my side. Now to lure Pine Tree out of the Shack!"
A small part of Ford urged him that he should be worried for the twins, or the fact that Bill could still be influencing his thoughts. He squashed the feeling. If he played along with Bill, he could save his family.
"This isn't right!" part of him said.
"Shut up," said the other.
"So, Sixer, you joining the team?" Bill asked.
Ford nodded.
~~~
Dipper had the strangest nightmare.
Mabel ran into some kind of wall and rubbed her forehead. "This thing is covered in chains?! I guess I really am captive . . . ," she finished mournfully.
Dipper didn't want to see his sister sad like this. "Mabel!" he yelled. "Mabel, I'm right here!"
But Mabel gave no notion of hearing him. Dipper watched her retreat sadly to her giant Shooting Star Tower.
"Mabel . . ." Dipper could only stare helplessly.
"This is just a dream. I mean, these are actual events, but you were never here."
"I know, Bill." Dipper sighed. Dipper may be extremely angry with the dream demon, but right now, he was focused on his sadness.
"You might be able to see her again," Bill said wryly.
"Really?" Dipper said doubtfully.
"Come to the Fearamid as soon as you wake up! She'll be waiting for for you!"
Dipper turned to look at Bill. "Just come . . .?"
"Just come."
~~~
Bill's plan was falling together nicely. Of course Ford would find his way out of his mindscape; that was just a tactic he used to get Ford to the Fearamid. Then Bill let the worst parts of Ford's personality out, but kept his good side locked up. To top that off, Bill was manipulating Ford's thoughts. Eventually, his good side would be lost forever.
"Hey, Fordsy!" Bill shouted over the party noise.
Ford was by his side immediately, and Bill chuckled. It was just like the old days, when Ford trusted Bill completely.
"Yes?" Ford asked.
"I need you to do me a favor. Under the Fearamid is your nephew. He's gonna be a little mad, but probably willing to come up here. Still, I need you to show him I mean business."
Ford smiled darkly. "Of course. That brat won't be feeling his best once I get him up here."
~~~
Dipper walked through the ruins of Gravity Falls with a slight limp. Ahead and above him: The Fearamid. His objective: Get Mabel and leave. That was really all Dipper had planned. I really didn't think this through, he thought.
A movement behind Dipper caught his eye. "Hello?" he called, slowly turning around.
There was no one, until Ford walked through the bushes. Dipper about had a heart attack. Ford's appearance chilled Dipper to the bone. Ford really had turned against them.
"Nice to see you too," Dipper said dryly. "Where'd you get the outfit? Edgy on Purpose--"
Dipper was cut off when Ford threw a fireball at him. He narrowly dodged it, but that only put him in the line of fire. One hit him, and he blacked out.
~~~
Dipper woke up with a start. Everything was sore. He was barely sitting up when something tackled him.
"Dipper!" Mabel squeezed him tighter. "I was so worried! Grunkle Ford carried you in, and you were limp and pale, and I thought--"
"I-I'm fine!" Dipper said. Honestly, Mabel's tight hugging plus his soreness was extremely painful, but Dipper didn't say anything about it.
"This is a nice reunion!" Bill said behind them.
"Dang it, Bill, STOP TALKING CREEPILY BEHIND US!" Mabel shouted without letting go of Dipper.
Bill rolled his eye, but otherwise ignored Mabel. "I'm at a crossroads, Pines twins."
Dipper cocked an eyebrow. "Crossroads?" Dipper and Mabel both stood, holding onto the other's arm.
"Yep. I need to get rid of one of you, but I don't know which."
The twins' eyes widened, and they tightened their grip on the other fearfully.
"Why not both?" Ford spoke.
Dipper glared at his uncle. "Who's side are you on?!" he spat.
A look of confusion flickered across Ford's face, but no one noticed.
"Now, Pine Tree, don't get too testy!" Bill said in a scolding tone. "After all, with a snap, it's goodbye to one of you."
Dipper glared but held his tongue.
"Now . . . Let's see . . ." Bill pretended to think to himself. "Pine Tree is the more likely one to stop me. Plus I honestly think Shooting Star's love for fun is worth some points--I mean, fun is chaos, and I love chaos!"
Mabel glanced at her brother fearfully. Dipper glanced back, also looking scared.
"On the other hand, wouldn't it be fun to break Pine Tree? And there's really only one way to do that!"
Dipper's head whipped back to Bill. "NO!" he yelled without thinking.
"No?" Bill shrugged, "Okay then!"
Relief hit Dipper. Mabel wasn't going to die?
A small, blue fireball appeared in Bill's palm, like the one Ford threw at Dipper. It grew bigger and bigger, and Bill laughed.
"Pine Trees do burn, huh?" he sneered.
Mabel clutched Dipper tighter. "Bill!" she yelled. "Bill, please, I'll do anything you want!"
"Sorry, Shooting Star, but I've made up my mind!" Bill was ready to throw the fireball.
Then the door to the Fearamid exploded. The twins were blown against the floor, and Ford gaped at the giant, floating baby in front of him.
"Bill Cipher," said one of the many men, "you are charged with breaking the rules of time space, and possessing the body of a time officer."
"My body is a temple! How dare you!" yelled a familiar, and annoying, shrill voice. Blendin Blandin.
Blendin noticed the twins on the ground, and he stared at them. Finally, he decided to do one worth-while thing in his time-traveling life. With Bill Cipher distracted by Time Baby, Blendin ran up to the two kids.
"Listen to me very closely," Blendin whispered in his annoying voice. "I know you two know how to use this." He pulled out a time-travel tape measure. "So use it!"
The twins got up shakily, and Dipper took the tape measure. Ford had watched their interaction and chose that it was time to intervene. Dipper pulled out the tape as Ford ran over to stop them. Dipper let go as soon as Ford grabbed his arm.
In a flash of light, the three Pines disappeared.
What did you guys think? Sorry it took a while. I procrastinated. I'm thinking about writing a part two (it won't be for the contest of course) that will wrap up a few things I decided not to mention in this. I hope you guys liked this. I literally put it off for about a month before binging on my computer XD.
