Chapter 4: Day 2
'Hey, are you ok?' Cliff was sitting beside me, the carcass of a chicken in his claws. I poked at my own chicken that he had caught for me a few minutes before.
'I just- I feel really bad. Shard didn't do anything; it wasn't her fault but she was treated as though it was.' I said, looking at Cliff for reassurance.
'Why don't you go talk to her? Apologize.' He replied 'Hey, if you go can I have your chicken?'
'Oh, so that's what this is about.' I said, raising an eyebrow tauntingly.
'No. I just- it would go to waste otherwise.' He said quickly.
'I'm kidding, its fine. You can have it; I'm not hungry anyways.' I said, already peering over all the dragon heads surrounding me. Beach, as usual, was sat beside Squelch; sharing a goat. Sandstorm was sat next to six other Sandwings, chatting away happily. Apricot had sauntered over and began talking to Cliff about how great the Mangoes in the Rainforest were.
I stared around, now worrying about Shard. Why wasn't she here? All the winglets gathered here at the same time each day; she should be here. It had been a day since the... vision. She couldn't still be holding a grudge against her winglet. No. She isn't like that. It must be something else keeping her away. I jumped into the air, flying above the feasting dragons and scanning the crowd. No, she was definitely not here. There were no albino dragonets present. (Yes, Shard is albino =3)
I flew lower, diving through the exit that led to the hallway. I could hear a scuffle; thumps, screams, it was distant though. Only a Sandwing would be able to hear something so far away. I panicked, was Darkstalker coming back? No, my parents had been there as he was turned into a dragonet; they saw it happen. He wasn't going to be back anytime soon. Still, some sort of fight was going on. I flapped my wings a little harder. There was not much room in the small passage; I had to be careful not to run into any other dragonets.
The fight seemed to get closer and I slowed to a stop, landing on the stone floor. I crept closer, listening to the conversation.
'Come on, be a proper Icewing! Fight back!' A dark voice smirked.
'H-help!' A light voice choked out.
'Ha! There is no one to protect you anymore; you all alone now, runt!' That was a new voice; female this time. There was a soft whimper, then a thump. I widened my eyes; I had to do something!
I sped along the corridor, keeping my wings tucked close to my body.
I rounded a corner, then rushed to a stop as I saw what lay before my eyes.
