~from (y/n)'s POV~
The longer you were stuck here, the less you slept. The first few deaths weren't of people you knew especially well (although Sasha had been your roommate in a sense), but Jean was your friend. Sure, you'd only really become friends a day ago, but you were friends.
You already knew that you wouldn't be able to sleep a wink, so you decided to stay up to wait for Jean to return. Levi was sitting next to you, staying silent. Annie left a few minutes later.
"(Y/n), what did I do to upset you?" Levi asked when the two of you were alone.
"What do you mean?" you responded, but you knew. "I'm not upset." But you were.
"Yeah, you are. You've been pissed off at me since - since Marco. Or before that. Is that what this is about? Is this about Marco? Are you mad at me because someone else died, and I couldn't do anything to stop it?"
"No, Levi," you said, putting an end to his trail of thought. "It's not about Marco."
"Then what is it about?"
You were silent.
"(Y/n), what's wrong."
It wasn't a question this time, but you knew that you had to answer. "I saw you coming out of Annie's tent."
Levi's brow furrowed. "(Y/n), I've come out of Jean's tent, and Eren's tent, and Armin's tent, and hell, your tent. Is that wrong of me?"
"Levi, I saw you coming out of Annie's tent the night I broke up with Erwin for sleeping with Annie."
"Oh." He paused. "You know that I'm not-"
"I know. But my thoughts at the time - that's just where they went. I couldn't help it. At first, it was just a 'what if' kind of thing - what if Levi has been sleeping with Annie the whole time? What if Levi is just playing me like Erwin did? What if - and then it just kind of became fact to me. I didn't want to look at you, or talk to you, or-" Or touch you. "I don't know, Levi. But it's hard for me to trust you, to trust anyone."
"I get it." He glared at you. "I get it, but it pisses me off that you don't know me better than that."
"Then make me get to know you."
Props to you for not blushing.
"Levi?" you asked after a few moments of silence. "Why were you in Annie's tent?"
"...you probably don't want to hear this."
"Oh, but I do."
"...I asked her if she was serious about Erwin."
"Why?" you asked, confused as to why Levi would care. "Playing matchmaker?"
"Because I wanted her to confess to Erwin so he would break up with you."
You were speechless. "You what?!"
"I wanted Erwin to break up with you."
"But why?!" If your hands weren't burned, you'd seriously be considering wrapping them around his neck.
"Because then you wouldn't be dating Erwin..."
"Yeah, I got that much."
"And then you'd be single..."
"Uh huh."
"So then you could go out with me."
"Righ- wait, what?"
Levi glared at you. "I'm not going to repeat myself."
"So...you wanted Annie to get Erwin to break up with me...because you wanted to date me instead?"
"No, I didn't want to date you; I do want to date you. Present tense."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"Oh."
"Has your vocabulary been reduced to singularly that one word?" Levi snapped.
You sighed. "Levi, it's not that I don't like you-"
"It's just not that you do," he finished bitterly.
"-it's just that, a, I just broke up with my boyfriend, and b, we are stuck in a life or death situation here. Closer to death, really. And it seems kind of silly to agonize over my love life when I'm more concerned with surviving, as all of my friends are dying one by one."
"So you're saying that I'm being insensitive? That my feelings are getting in your way?"
"Levi...this isn't fair of you. You're expecting too much from me."
"I'm not expecting anything! I know how you can't sleep at night, how you're scared! I want to protect you, (y/n)! Can't you understand that?"
You stood up, careful not to use your hands. "You can love me or you can protect me? But you can't choose both. Eventually, you'll sacrifice one for the other, and I'll be stuck with your choice. Besides, Levi. You don't know me altogether that well, and you're throwing around the word 'love' like it's cheap and meaningless. You can't love me. You hardly know me."
Levi stood up as well, scowling deeply. "You're the one who went on and on about how you wished you had somebody to love, and how you wished they loved you back because love is important to you, or at least, the ideal is."
"Is that so wrong? Jeez, Levi. I can't tell if you're just telling me what I want to hear - not that last bit you said but about you liking me. But I'm not that stupid anymore, Levi. Love is a physical thing, and all I've gotten from love so far has been violation. I don't want anybody touching me, not now, not for a while. And until you figure out what the hell you're saying, I suggest that you adhere to my wishes. And with that, I thank you, and good night," you said, giving him a slight bow, mock-dramatically. Once again, all your emotions had broken the surface, exploding everywhere in a messy display of a lack of control. Levi was standing there, his lips twisted in a scowl, and you felt bad for leaving him, by how could you trust his words when he threw them about so quickly? Even if he had saved your life several times, even if he had made you laugh, even if he had kissed you once, even if he had gorgeous eyes and a beautiful body -
Nope. You lost track of what you were going to say and just left him standing there, alone.
