Miscommunication
Apologies in advance as I do not know how to write Roxy lmao.
Just a reminder that italicized words with quotation marks (") are Sun and Moon talking to each other through their shared connection
Cheeks is Chica's nickname (I know it looks weird but I wrote it how it should be pronounced)
TW for Panic Attacks and Vomiting
The convertible pulls up to a scene of police cars and even a firetruck. The three get out and Sun and Moon scan for Chica, finding her to the side with police. Chica wipes her eyes as two officers leave her alone.
"Chica! Honey, are you alright?" Sun exclaims, putting an arm around her. Moon growls at the hurtful words painted on the walls.
"Hey! Ma'am this is a crime scene you can't be here." An officer holds Codie's shoulder, stopping her from following the boys.
"I'm with the two jesters," Codie protests, trying to gently pry her shoulder off the man's hand. The man sneers in disgust.
"You're with those two? The freaky sun and moon ones? Are you being held against your will?" Codie gapes at the officer.
The ginger glares. "Yeah, they're my friends."
"Friends? Lady, those things are murderers. Should've never released them, what were they thinking! They need to be scrapped or put back to work in a monitored building."
Before Codie can angrily retort and defend her friends, another officer walks over with a quirked eyebrow. "What's goin' on over here? You know anything about this, ma'am?"
Codie nods, "No, I'm here to help. Chica's a friend." The officer nods, seemingly not having the same opinion as Mister Hater on his left.
"Leave the girl alone, we need to head back to the station, Mark." The nicer cop slaps the rude one on the shoulder lightly, motioning to their cars. Mark slyly sneers at Codie one more time before leaving. Finally, the girl can go and see Chica, so she jogs over.
Wow, Codie has never seen Chica since those old restaurant commercials she's seen on TV. She remembered Chica was big and yellow, not slim and white with pink. She's so cute! "Hey! I'm Codie." The ginger offers her hand as she walks up. Sniffing, Chica looks up.
This was Sun and Moon's roommate? They never told her how cute she was! Chica grows excited before the adorable human, eagerly shaking her hand. She's totally going to invite her for a girl's night with Roxy.
"Howdy, Codie! It's lovely meetin' you. These two told me a lot about you." Chica jabs her thumb behind her to the two boys. They blush and avoid eye contact. Okay so maybe they talked about you subconsciously to the others...
"I'm so sorry about what happened here. The cops don't seem too concerned about it either..." Codie trails off, mad about how that cop talked about them. Chica sniffs again, looking back at her precious pastry shop.
"Yeah, I'm really upset about it. They even smashed my security cameras! Now they'll get away with it," she sighs. "I have insurance, though, so everything should be covered. It'll just take a few weeks to get up and runnin'..."
Codie frowns, rubbing her hand down Chica's arm comfortingly.
"Oh but you are just too cute, Chickpea!" Chica can't help but smile at Codie, never meeting a human as sweet and kind as her.
"O-oh?" Codie flushes, shocked by Chica suddenly pulling her onto her lap and hugging her. Sun smiles down at them, amused by the situation Codie got herself in. Chica. Is. A. Hugger. He thinks she's an even bigger one than him! And that's saying something.
Moon also smiles with amusement, though he wishes he could be the one holding her, but it's also nice to see their friends getting along with each other.
Chica rambles on about all the girly things they could do together, saying how it must be exhausting living with those two and never having girl time. All the while she pets her soft curly hair, braiding little braids here and there.
Codie flushes from all the attention and petting. No one ever told her how touchy-feely animatronics were! She does mentally congratulate herself for taking the poor bird's mind off her wrecked shop though, so there's that.
"Ah..." Everything slows down as Codie's stomach churns in pain.
"Are you alright, hun?" Chica tilts her head, stopping her petting.
"Yea-yeah, just a cramp, it'll go away..." Codie replies through clenched teeth. She didn't tell the boys that these stomach pains haven't exactly been side effects of the surgery. It was just a good excuse at the time but they'll figure it out sooner or later and she is not ready for that conversation.
Codie looks up through clenched eyes, seeing the boys not here. Good, they don't need to worry right now, it'll pass. "Where'd they go?" she asks the chicken.
"They're walking around the building," Chica answers, blowing Codie's bangs out of her face. "Oh dear, you're pretty pale, Chickpea, you sure you're alright? Should I get the boys?"
"No! No, I'm fine. Promise. Tell me about that sleepover." Chica easily gets distracted by the prompt, quickly delving into all the plans she had already made. Codie listens with a strained smile as the cramps die down.
"And we could even invite Vanessa if you want! I dunno if you met her but she's sweet! It'll be just us girls!" Chica finishes with an excited chirp.
"What are you two girls talking about, hmmm?" Moon sneaks up on the two, making Chica jump with the human still on her lap.
"Hot pepperoni pizza, Moon! Don't startle me!" Chica lets Codie off, putting a hand to her chest. Moon chuckles lowly. "Not like it concerns you, but I'm stealing your little roommate!"
He leans forward, hands tucked behind his back. "The whereabouts of my roommate does concern me, Feathers, but go on."
'What the hell does that even mean...' Codie stares wide eyed at the two hulking animatronics.
Chica stands, hand on her hip and poking a finger at Moon's nose. "Oh hush you big baby. We're having a sleepover. She already agreed, right Chickpea?" She looks at the human.
"Stardrop is still recovery from surgery, I don't think that's a good idea..."
'Are they...arguing over me?'
Codie clears her throat. "Um, well I did agree and it's just a slumber party, Moonpie, I ain't running marathons. Plus, it'd be nice to meet Vanessa and Roxy."
Moon stands up straight, blushing and grumbling about the nickname. She must have heard Sun use it.
She did and she's gonna keep using it.
"Hooray!" Chica jumps into the air, pumping her fist. "Let's exchange numbers so I can text you the...'deets'! I heard that word from some kids!" Moon just sighs, shaking his head.
Codie giggles and they trade numbers at the moment Sun returns. "Sunshine! Ready to go home?"
Moon answers for her, sternly saying, "Yes. It's time for her pain medicine anyway." Codie rolls her eyes. Figures they'd have that saved in their brains somewhere.
"I'll text you later, Chica!" Codie waves, walking to the boys' car. Chica waves back, blowing her a kiss.
"Bye bye, Chickpea!"
~~~~~~~~
Sun stands in Codie's doorway, wringing his hands as he watches her pack a backpack. "Are-are you sure you wouldn't want to have a sleepover with me and Moon? We-we have awesome ones!"
"No, Sunny, this is my chance to meet the girls!" Codie tells him.
"But, but your flare ups!"
"I have my pain medicine, plus, they haven't bothered me lately." She's not lying about that, it's been a few days and it hasn't hurt, thankfully. He only worries about it because of her cramps which aren't even a part of the appendectomy.
Moon walks by, gently shoving his brother's shoulder. "Leave the girl alone. Maybe we'll have a sleepover some other night, hm?" Codie gestures to him, nodding in agreement.
"Anyways, I should go! I'll see you two tomorrow!" Codie slings her overnight bag over her shoulder, patting Sun's thigh on the way out of her room. The two jesters watch her leave, Moon waving with a smirk as Sun mocks sobs, dramatically waving.
"Don't be a baby," Moon chuckles.
"I am not! I was pretending to make her laugh, which I'm pretty sure she did, so there!" Sun maturely sticks his tongue out at him, earning an eye roll. "I'm just worried. She just had surgery and flare ups of pain but jumps to immediately go over to Chica's? Roxy can get pretty rough, what if she rips Sunbite's stitches?"
"Sun..." Moon looks him in the eyes, "I texted Chica everything about Codie's surgery already and she told the others, she'll be fine."
"O-oh, that's smart..." Sun looks down, finger to his chin. Why didn't he think of that? Some caretaker he is!
The two part, each going a different way but both thinking, 'I wonder what the girls will be doing tonight?'
~~~~~~~~
Codie walks up the steps of a different apartment building, trying to calm her nerves about being at a new place with new people. She's glad she plucked a couple Moondrops just for the occasion.
Before she can even set her bag down to knock, Chica opens the door, arms outstretched and beak open in a wide smile. "Welcome, Chickpea! Come in, come in!" Codie practically gets dragged in by the bird.
Codie looks around, enjoying the decor. It's very...Chica! "Hi," she smiles.
"The others will be here very soon! I have some snacks set out and movies laid out to choose from! We'll have so much fun! You haven't met Vanessa and Roxy yet, but trust me, you'll love 'em!"
Codie sure hopes so. She doesn't exactly have many friends. Another human one would be nice, too, not that the boys aren't already! The animatronic takes her bag from her, huffing about putting it aside until bedtime. Codie just giggles, letting her, before checking out the movies she was talking about.
She picks up Princess and The Frog, flipping it over, when she hears a knock. A loud, booming one. 'Must be Roxy.' Chica hurriedly answers it, bawking in happiness and hugging the attendee. "You'll love her! She's so cute for a human!" Codie hears Chica gushing about her, making her flush.
What about her makes her look so cute to these guys?
"I'll be the judge of that," Roxy replies, her voice low and challenging. Ah, well that doesn't sound too good. Codie sets the movie down, opting to sit at the table and nibble on some tortilla chips from a bowl.
When Chica led the animatronic wolf into the kitchen to meet Codie, the ginger did not expect how cool she would look. Chica is cute, sure, but Roxy is awesome! Codie gapes at the realistic hair draping down the wolf's back. Is it real? No it can't be. Is it? She even has a streak of color in it! Codie's parents never let her dye her hair!
Codie stares at Roxy as Roxy stares at her. "Hmmm," the wolf hums, narrowing her eyes. "She is kinda cute..."
"I told you!" Chica jumps excitedly.
"Name's Roxanne Wolf, kid, but call me Roxy," Roxy walks up and holds up her fist.
Codie bumps it with her own, mumbling, "I'm Codie, and thank you, you're really cool yourself!" At that, Roxanne blushes.
"Well of course I am! I'm Roxanne Wolf! The best there is!" she guffaws, going on about how cool she was at the pizzaplex. Codie happily listens when Chica sidesteps her friend to get closer to the human.
"Oh she totally likes you!" This time, the doorbell rings. Chica goes to calm down the wolf and gives Codie a look. She nods and goes to answer the door, checking the peephole first.
Vanessa stands on the other side with an overnight bag by her feet, checking her watch like routine. She never did break that habit of constantly checking it.
Codie opens and gives the human a small smile, shyly saying hello. "Hey!" Vanessa breaks out in a smile of her own. "You must be Codie! Moon told me about you, I'm Vanessa, I was the security guard at the pizzaplex. But...don't call me Officer, I get it enough from the others." She ends the sentence off bitterly. She knows it's a habit from the animatronics but it still leaves a sour feeling in her chest when she hears it.
Codie shakes her head. No calling her Officer, easy enough. "Hey Vanessa!" Chica welcomes when the girls enter the kitchen. "Now that we're all here, we can get this party started! Ooo, what should we do first?!"
"Games?" Codie suggests.
Roxy pumps her fist in the air. "Hell yeah! I'll beat all of you!" Vanessa just laughs, shrugging at Chica.
"I'll do whatever, you pick, Chica."
"Games it is! You three move the food to the counter and I'll grab some board games and be right back!" The three start doing as she said, placing bowls and platters aside, Codie snatching a handful of chips to munch on as she sits down. The other two follow suit when Chica returns, holding a stack of games.
As she sets up Sorry! as their first game of the night, Vanessa speaks up. "So Chica, you have a copy of your police report, right? It'll be a lot of help for the next meeting."
"Yes ma'am! It's in my bedroom!"
"Great. Don't forget it okay? I'll remind you before the next meeting just in case, though." Everyone finishes setting up their pawns and Roxy declares she's going first.
Each takes turns and it goes around the table a few times before Codie speaks up. "Um, so Vanessa, how was the pizzaplex? Like, working there... I never had a chance to visit." Codie asks curiously, looking down at the game board and taking her turn.
Vanessa's face goes pale as she averts her eyes from anyone. "It-erm, it was boring, I was just security you know..." she awkwardly laughs, putting her ponytail behind her after it falls over her shoulder.
"But, what about the animatronics you worked with!" Codie starts to get more bold, excited about learning where they came from. "You had to have been around the Glamrocks for sure, but what about Sun and Moon, how were they?"
Vanessa's look turns sour, though she hides it well. 'Sure if you mean bossing them around and tampering with their systems to make them hunt down children...'
Chica and Roxy smiled, nodding in agreement that she was indeed near them a lot. "Oh she sure was! A tough cookie though! She did her job well! Always made sure we were where we needed to be." Chica happily explained, her hand up as she did so.
"Yea-yeah, what she said." The former security guard jabs her thumb towards the chicken. "And, I wasn't stationed at the daycare ever, so I never interacted with those two... Now whose turn is it?" She quickly changes the topic.
"Um, mine now," Codie goes, drawing a card. The four continue Sorry! for a while until, surprisingly, Chica wins. Roxy harrumphs, announcing she let her win. Chica giggles, putting a hand on her friend's shoulder, thanking her.
"What next?" Vanessa asks, putting the game away and then checking her wristwatch.
"Movie?" Roxy suggests, her arms crossed.
"No! Truth or dare!" The girls all look at the robot bird with their eyebrows quirked. They aren't teenagers! Gaining those reactions, Chica starts pleading. "Oh pleasepleaseplease!? I've heard so many Baby Birds talk about it at the pizzaplex! I even asked one for the details and I've wanted to play it ever since!"
Roxy shrugs, it couldn't hurt to play, she supposed. Just know she'll probably win. Codie glances around, nervous. She's played truth or dare, who hasn't? (beside these robots) but the questions and dares get pretty personal.
How bad could it be with the girls, though? "I'm in," the ginger shrugs. The blonde rolls her eyes, throwing her hands up.
"Fine! I'm in! Stop giving me those eyes, Chica!" Chica whoops, darting to the living room. She goes and grabs blankets, laying them down and then throwing the couch pillows on top. The other three gather around, sitting in a circle on the pillows.
"I'll go first!" Roxy volunteers herself, smirking with mischief. "Vanessa! Truth or dare?" The woman sighs, why'd she get chosen first?
"Truth."
"Who is the coolest, most best person you know?" Codie furrows her eyes. Is, is that supposed to be truth?
Vanessa smirks, "Well, Freddy is pre-tty cool..." The three laugh at Roxanne's shocked gasp, her yellow eyes narrowing with a growl. "Buuuut, Roxanne Wolf is the coolest." Chica and Codie stifle giggles. "Chica, truth or dare?"
"Dare!" She's a brave bird, come at her!
"I dare you to do the chicken dance!" This is the perfect use of her dare, she's sure of it.
"Kyahahaha!" Roxy guffaws, "Yes! I got the song queued up, get dancin', girl!" Chica goes blank for a moment, searching this dance before chuckling, a pink blush appearing on her white cheeks.
"Oh, goodness, okay, okay, here I go!" As soon as she stands, the music starts playing from within Roxy's body and Chica starts dancing.
Something about watching a giant animatronic chicken do the chicken dance is an ethereal experience. She does it practically perfectly, too, laughing at the butt wiggling part and stumbling but other than that, it's perfect. The three girls clap when she finishes.
"Alright, alright," Chica blushes. She puts her hand on her cheek, "Codie, truth or dare?"
"Truth?"
Chica mock thinks, drawing out a long hum with her eyes watching the ceiling. "Do you have any...special person in your life?!" Codie blinks.
"What? Like a-a mate? A boyfriend?"
Smiling, Chica waves her hand back and forth, "Boyfriend, girlfriend...robofriend...s?"
Is she implying what Codie thinks she's implying!? "What!?" Codie gapes. Vanessa looks at her, very intrigued with her reaction. Roxy does, too. "No, Sun and Moon are just my friends. We care about each other but not like that!"
The three girls remain unconvinced, knowing smiles on their faces. Codie looks down, embarrassed. But why? She told them the truth! She doesn't like them like that and surely they wouldn't like her like that either. They're just very touchy-feely from neglect at the pizzaplex.
"Pretty sure they call you cutesy nicknames," Chica points out.
"Oooo!" Vanessa teases, jokingly fanning her face. This is getting juicy and she's here for it!
"Wha-? As friends! Everyone calls their friends by nicknames. Moon called you Feathers," Codie argues, gesturing to the bird.
Roxy snickers, "Feathers isn't as risque as Starlight, though."
Codie scoffs, "It's not risque, it's cute and matches his theme. As are Sun's nicknames." The three all look to one another, all agreeing that the jesters totally like Codie and she doesn't realize. Should they get involved, though? Probably not, Vanessa supposes she could stay out of it but she knows those two will meddle if it's the last thing they do.
"Come on guys, let's watch a movie, it's gettin' pretty late." Codie instantly agrees with the blonde, happy the topic has been changed and attention is off her. Roxy turns the lights off as Chica gets snacks and Vanessa turns on the movie, the four having decided on The Notebook.
The movie goes off without a hitch for about an hour when Codie's cramps start flaring up. She whines quietly, changing her position to try and calm them. Thankfully, the girls don't notice her constant shifting, so she continues, her toes curling and uncurling in discomfort.
"Hey, you alright there, Codie?" Vanessa frowns, watching the girl.
The ginger cringes, "Yeah, I'm just in a bit of pain. You know, pe-"
"Pain! Are you alright Chickpea!?" Chica exclaims as Roxy pauses the movie to stare at her also.
"Yeah, Pup, what kind of pain?"
"Just-just cramps! In my stoma-"
"Stomach pain! Oh golly, lemme see your stitches! Did any come loose? Do we need to take you to the hospital!" Vanessa and Codie watch with raised eyebrows as the chicken practically hyperventilates without actually doing so.
"What!? No! It's not from the surgery!" The robot doesn't listen as she pulls out her phone, scrolling. How do you explain this to a couple of animatronics? Codie huffs, she's ruining the party and Chica won't listen to her!
"Chica, it's really not anything to worry about, she's fine!" Vanessa tries to diffuse the situation, understanding what Codie is trying to explain.
"It's alright, Vanessa," Chica smiles, "I got Moon's list up!"
'List?' Codie mouths to the blonde. She only shrugs in response. "What list?" Codie demands, standing up to look over the bird's shoulder. On the phone screen it shows a text message, a lengthy one at that, from Moon, titled; 'How to care for Codie'. "What the hell??"
"I-it's just something Moon texted me in case you had any pain! He listed your medicine and whatnot!" Chica starts to panic at Codie's reaction. She glances to her friends for backup but only gets weirded out looks from them and an angry one from Codie. "Wh-what? guys? Help me out!"
Roxy crosses her arms, "It's kinda weird, Cheeks. Why did they send you a list of caring for an adult?"
"Yeah," Vanessa agrees, angry for the poor girl. "This pain isn't even related to her surgery." Red in the face, Codie storms off to the bathroom, embarrassed and upset. She breathes heavily as she tries to calm herself. Tears come to her eyes but she quickly wipes them away.
'Who do they think they are?! What am I, a baby with special instructions!? They wouldn't even understand period cramps if I explained it and now they think I need some extra care because I'm in a tiny bit of pain!!'
She slams her hand down on the tile.
'How dare they!? They totally embarrassed me! Me and Vanessa could've explained it but Moon had to go and worry her with his list and cause her to freak out!'
"Hey, Codie? I talked to them and explained it, they understand, you can come out." Vanessa's soft voice travels through the door.
"I don't really want to," Codie sniffs, wiping her nose. She hears heavy footsteps approaching before Roxy speaks up.
"C'mon, Pup, Chica was being her over-dramatic self, she was just concerned but we get it now. You know... I can run pretty hot when I get worked up... If you happen to be near me..." Roxy trails off, letting her offer sink in.
Codie smiles to herself, Roxy is being very considerate without further upsetting her, how can Codie say no to that? "Are you worked up now?" the ginger asks softly.
"Hell yeah I will be when we play a round of UNO!" Codie giggles at that.
"Chica also went to grab some Ibuprofen so there's that, too." Vanessa's voice comes through more muffled as she turns the other way to glance towards the kitchen where Chica disappeared into.
The bathroom door opens, making the girls take a step back. Codie comes out with a smile as she wrings her fingers together. "I'm sorry about disturbing the movie."
"Who cares!" Roxanne exclaims, pumping her fist, "That movie was lame anyways! We should have watched Fast and The Furious! But for now, it's UNO time and I'm gonna kick your butt!" Codie gasps then laughs when Roxy reaches out to grab her arm and gently but sporadically drag her away.
Vanessa chuckles, shaking her head and following them. She should have never shown that wolf those movies.
~~~~~~~~~~~
After playing not one, but many rounds of UNO, the girls figure it's time to head for bed as the animatronics start to notice the numerous yawns from the humans. Chica helps Codie set her sleeping bag out in the living room, chuckling nervously. "Sorry again, Chickpea."
Codie waves her off, "It's totally okay, Chica, you did nothing wrong! Thank you for being so concerned about me, though."
"Well of course! We're friends!" Codie 'oofs' into Chica's chest when she pulls her into a big hug. She wraps her arms around the big chicken, hugging back. "Ready to sleep? I...Moon, he might have sent me stuff on your...you know."
Codie groans, throwing her head back. Of course he did. It's not Chica's fault, though. "Yeah, I'm all good." She pulls out a candy, "Got a couple of these on standby- actually I'm eating this one now." She unwraps it and throws it into her mouth.
"Great! Come get me or anyone if you need anything at all, though, okay Sweetpea?" Ah man, this chicken is just too damn nice. Codie nods, giving her one last side hug before crawling into her bag.
"You two pansies done yappin' yet?" Roxy teases, already rolled over in her own bed (2 large blankets simulating a sleeping bag because you know they ain't gonna have ones to fit them).
"All of you shut up and go to bed!" Vanessa groans halfheartedly. "Cheeks, turn the light off!" she whines. She doesn't get paid to stay up anymore so she wants her sleep!
"Alright, alright you two! Goodnight everyone! Sweet dreams!" The lights turn off and Codie rolls over to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah. She should have known she wouldn't have made it through the night. Can't a girl dream?! Well, no, she can't apparently because she's awake! She decides to lie there and stare at the ceiling for a while, trying to make herself sleepy. When that doesn't work, Codie goes on her phone, wincing at the brightness.
She lowers it and opens YouTube, making sure to turn the volume down before playing anything. Man she is not ready to go home but at the same time, all she wants is to sleep next to the boys. She gets much better rest when she does so.
But she's mad at them right now. How dare they do that to her. 'No, stop thinking about it or you'll never fall back asleep.' She can't get worked up right now! The ginger huffs, sitting up and unwrapping her second Moondrop. She pops it in and lies back down, turning a let's play on to watch.
A particularly scary part of the video causes the girl to jump and since she's lying on her side, sucking on the Moondrop awkwardly, it flies into the back of her throat. Quickly sitting up in one motion, the girl starts to cough sporadically, her throat feeling heavy and sore from the hard candy that forced its way down.
She tries to stifle the involuntary reaction but can't help it, scrambling up to go get some water. She really hopes she didn't wake anyone. She unscrews the cap to a water bottle and chugs it greedily, the cold liquid soothing her sore throat. 'I really hope the Moondrop still works...'
Might as well sit at the dinner table and wait to get sleepy. She wouldn't want to wake the others with her YouTube video. After an hour of horror videos, Codie's eyes finally start to feel heavy. She drags herself back to her sleeping bag and gets back in, closing her eyes and finally falling back to sleep.
For about five minutes.
An overwhelming sense of fear rushes through her. She sits up, already hyperventilating. She glances around the room, why is she feeling like this all of a sudden?! She was doing fine! Tears spring to her eyes as her stomach churns. She runs to the bathroom and opens the lid, leaning over as she feels the urge to throw up.
'Calm down. Calm down.' She dry-heaves. She can't. She can't calm down. Why is she having a panic attack! 'I have to get out of here. I wanna go home.' The girl silently cries into the toilet bowl, gripping the sides for balance.
Making up her mind, Codie rushes to grab her things, forgetting her sleeping bag in her hurry and practically running out the front door. She gets into her car and only then does her heart start slowing down but not by much.
Thankfully, it's very early in the morning, only around 4AM, so the roads are empty. Good thing, too, because Codie can't focus on the road with all the tears blurring her vision. She parks and drops herself out of the vehicle, barely remembering to grab her phone and bag in her haste to get to her room.
She unlocks the door and shuts it softly, definitely not wanting to alert the boys. 'Crapcrapcrap.' She's going to have to take a bath to calm down before attempting to sleep, she knows she does, but what if one of them awakens? Her throat seizes and she panics, dropping her bag and rushing to the bathroom.
She actually throws up this time, worsening her anxiety. She sobs from the feeling, hating it. Emetophobia is a bitch. 'Take a bath, sip some water, go to bed.'.. She repeats that a few more times as she starts it, the rushing water calming her a little bit.
She turns the bathroom light off, gets undressed, and sinks into the blazing hot water, sinking down to her chin. She closes her eyes and works on her breathing.
Moon's optics turn on and his system boots up. He narrows his eyes, rushing water reaching his hearing sensors. 'Thin walls...' he grumbles, turning over and going back to sleep mode.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At 9:30AM Sun gets a call from his cell phone. Chica is on the other end and frantically begging him to answer. He answers cheerfully. "Good morning, Chica!"
"Sun! Shut up! Codie's gone!" Sun blinks. Once. Twice. He drops the puzzle piece he was holding, standing up in a single motion.
"Wh-what?! What do you m-mean!?"
"I dunno! We woke up and her sleepin' bag is on the ground but she's gone!" Sun can hear Vanessa in the background talking to someone, probably on the phone.
"I'll-I'll go get Moon! We'll come over!" Without waiting for an answer, Sun hangs up and hurries to their room. He gets on top of Moon and shakes him awake. "Get up! Sunshine's gone!"
Moon groans, "Mmm, what-what's going on?" He rubs his head, tilting his cap back in place.
"Codie's gone!" Sun waves his arms around willy-nilly. Moon sits up straight, alarms flashing in his eyes.
"Call her phone!" Moon demands, pointing at Sun's cell in his hand. The lunar bot fumbles his phone but quickly dials her number. The two freeze when they hear her ringtone from her bedroom.
Silently, they stalk over and open her door and find her rolled over on her side fast asleep. They stand in shock. When did she come home? Why didn't they hear her? Was she okay? Sun swiftly calls Chica back and lets her know they found her.
"I-I don't under-understand," Sun stutters, nervously wringing his hands. Moon puts his on top, stopping him.
"Calm down, she's fine. We'll ask when she wakes up." Sun nods, thankful for Moon easing his anxieties.
Sun goes back to his puzzle while Moon scrounges the fridge for food, having a hankering for something sweet to ease his nerves. Sun just about puts the final piece of his puzzle together when the two hear little human footsteps.
They glance at one another and get up to meet her. The human stops dead in her tracks looking like a deer in the headlights, eyes wide. "Uh, he-hey guys! I was just...going to the bathroom." She jabs her thumb to the door.
Their eyes go from the door to her face a couple times before Sun steps forward. "Are you okay, Sunshine? Why are you home? What happened?"
Codie looks away, trying not to glare at the two. "Nothing, I didn't feel well, that's all. Came home early this morning."
"How are your stitches?" Moon asks. Codie growls and the two jesters widen their eyes at the noise.
"They're fine! I'm fine! Oh my gosh!" She storms into the bathroom, shutting the door and locking it. Both brothers share a look as if wondering if that just happened.
"Uhhh..."
"Something's wrong! We gotta talk to her, Moon!"
"She clearly does not want to talk. And as much as I want to know as well, we should probably let her cool off."
Sun pouts and crosses his arms. "I hate it when you're right..."
Moon smirks, bumping him. "You love it."
~~~
Codie huffs when she shuts the door satisfyingly loud enough to quell her anger just a bit. She's just so...angry at how they're treating her. She isn't glass! Or a baby! Or a kid from the daycare! She's an adult and she can handle herself thank you very much!
Can't a girl have girl cramps without 9 foot animatronics scared for her very well-being?!
She's not even sure how she's going to approach them about that stupid list. Boundaries need to be set but she's not sure how. And now she's stuck in the bathroom when what she really wanted was some food but then those two blocked her.
She gently pries the door open a crack, peering out and seeing that the coast is clear. Well, not really, she can hear them in the kitchen, but ah well.
She goes and passes by Sun who had started another puzzle. "Oh- Starlight," Moon starts after she brushes past him.
She deadpans, ignoring him for the most part, "I'm just getting food."
"Well, we need to talk. You're not like yourself, are you alright? Get enough sleep?" Okay, she knows he's a nighttime attendant but come on.
"Yes, Moon, I got sleep. I'm mad at you two, just leave me alone for a while." Confused, Moon tilts his head. Sun gasps, jumping up and approaching the two.
"Mad!? Whatever for! Why, Sunbite? Tell us, please!" Codie groans at his pleas.
"Because! You guys treat me like a baby and I'm sick of it!" Her voice starts to rise.
Moon frowns. "We're just watching out for you, Nova. You just had surgery-"
"But I've told you I'm fine but you never listen! You guys embarrassed me at the sleepover! Chica got all freaked out because of you!"
"Freaked out? I didn't do anything!" Moon argues, glaring back now.
"You-you gave her a list! On how to-to act or take care of me in case of pain!? Guys, I'm not going to break! You don't have to take care of me like I'm some baby!" Codie growls, her chest heaving.
"We-we're caretakers-!"
"I don't want caretakers! I want my friends!" The boys flinch back.
"Starlight-"
Codie takes a deep breath, wiping her eyes. "I had a really bad panic attack last night because of all of this. That's why I came home. You two are sweet, but it's overwhelming and suffocating. Why don't you trust me to believe that I'm fine if I tell you I'm fine?"
"Oh, Sunflower..." Sun sniffles as if he's crying though no tears come out. He wishes they were capable. "We just thought- with all the pain you've been having...letting Chica know how to help would be...helpful to you."
"It wasn't. And my pain isn't from the surgery but I didn't think I'd have to explain it to you." Looking away, Codie continues, "Actually, I'm not going to. Ask Chica or Vanessa, they can." She blushes and heads back to her room. No way in hell is she explaining a menstrual period to two daycare robots.
As she walks off, the boys stand there dejected and guilty. They really messed up.

"I'm here." Vanessa walks up to the jesters at a local coffee shop but stops and stares at their downtrodden faces before sitting down. "What's wrong with you two?"
"Codie's mad with us..." Sun looks down.
Vanessa scoffs, "Psh, yeah I wonder why... You two don't leave her alone."
"You know we're only trying to help." Moon glares, crossing his arms. "It's quite literally in our programming, too."
"Yeah, well, that may be the case and all but Codie's a tough girl and she can take care of herself just fine. Especially with what she was going through. If she says she's fine- pain wise, believe her."
The brothers nod in unison as they get reprimanded. "But, if she wasn't in pain from the surgery, what was happening? She said you could explain," Sun asks gently. Vanessa rears back, eyes wide and a blush forming in her cheeks.
"Wha?! Well, uh, dammit Codie..." She braces herself and continues. "Okay so what were the oldest children you guys watched?"
"Eleven, sometimes twelve," Moon answers.
"Yeah, okay, of course you two weren't programmed to know this..." The blond whispers to herself. "Basically every month a girl goes through what is called...ah geez, uh it's called menstruation..." She looks up and sees the two bots staring at her with strong interest. "Ugh! You guys are computers! Look it up in your heads! Menstruation! I gotta take Gregory to soccer!"
With that, the human walks off.
Snn and Moon's eyes go blank for a few minutes. (Though with Sun you wouldn't be able to tell) When they turn back on, the two look at each other with shock and horror.
Finally, after five minutes of silent pondering, Moon says, "Holy shit. We have to apologize."
An offended gasp and a cry of 'language!' can be heard off into the distance.
