Chapter 2-dreaming
Upon reaching their camp with their prey and the limp body of their fallen hunter brother, Hunter reported straight to the village’s Shaman, his grandmother to be exact, and reported to her.
"Hello Shaman," he said in a more respectful tone. She is the village’s healer after all.
The shaman merely gave a slight chuckle, "Oh Matheus...you don't need to call me Shaman just call me Grandmother.”
Matheus flinched. Almost no-one ever used his true name, which was according to birth "Matheus" everyone just called him either "Hunter" or just "boy".
"Oh-alright then," he said.
"Now why are you here?" She asked him,
He spoke, "the past few days I've been having this dream."
"Did it involve killing that metal man?" She asked.
He sighed of course she'd know about it.
"No grandmother. It's something very different," he stated.
She chuckled then asked, "Then what is troubling you?"
"Well, the past few days, I've been having the same dream over and over again," he said.
"Well, what was with the dream?" She asked.
Matheus sighed and explained his dream: how he had seen a ritual of bones taking place, how there were two great clans that eventually fought until one group was fully exterminated.
As he explained his dream, his grandmother's face seemed to have lost some of its color, becoming more and more pale and even more aged.
"I see," was all she said after a few moments of silence.
"What? That's it?" He asked, confused by her lack of response.
She ignored his question a second time, "You remember your dream perfectly except there is one key factor you don't realize."
"Well, what is it?" He asked.
"The ritual of bones is an ancient ritual one that goes beyond simple legends and words," she started.
"Yes Grandmother I know what the ritual of bones is," he said.
"You know the basic principles of the ritual, not the true meaning," she stated.
He was confused. What did that mean?
"I...I'm not so sure what you mean," he stated reluctantly.
"The ritual of bones is not just there to help predict our future. It is also a keeping of time and legends," she stated.
He was about to speak, but she kept on speaking unbothered, "You see there is an ancient legend among the most ancient tribes of this forest here."
"I've heard many legends Ma," he said.
"Yes but I know you haven't been told this particular legend," she said patiently.
"Well...then, why tell me it now? You still haven't told me what the issue is either-" he stated but was cut off by her again.
"All will be revealed in due time," she said simply.
"The legend I’ll tell you corresponds with your destiny." she suddenly stated.
Matheus felt the air leave his lungs.
What?
"W-what?" He asked.
"I know you view yourself above others, Matheus. I know you wish to be the clan’s leader, but the fates and universe have different plans for you."
Matheus didn't know what to say. He hasn't told anyone about that!
The old shaman merely chuckled and said, "Now listen here. The ritual of bones also has a secret meaning-it tells of when a new era will arrive. It tells of a warrior who will have to lose everything to learn the truth.”
"The truth of What?"\
"The truth of nature," she replied
"...so what does this have to do with my dream again?" He asked with a tilt of his head.
"Patience child...there is a legend few know and even fewer believe in," she started then went on to say. "It is the legend of the Huntsmen, a being one with nature itself, a being whose very soul is connected to the world around him, giving him unimaginable powers, untold strength, the ability to resist all disease, even death.”
Matheus was shocked why hasn't he heard of this legend before?
"Why do they never tell anyone of this legend?" He asked.
"Because some fear it may be true. The legend also comes with a prophecy,” she stared at him as she spoke.
"In heavens day in nature's light
Evil will escape the night
When one of arrogance and shrewd
Learns lessons anew
And he will be born anew
To keep the peace between moons
He must be ready to lose"
And with that, she finished.
"What does the prophecy mean exactly and why are you telling me this?" He asked quickly
"It is an untold legend that tells of the day of nature's fortune the greatest evil will return and one that was originally of arrogance and dishonor will have to rethink the way the very fabric of reality works and he will fun himself a new purpose..and a new soul and moons not only refers to the date of the moon cycle..it also referred to other dimensions" she finally finished then took in a gulp of air.
"But..why are you telling me..WAIT YOU DON'T MEAN-" he was cut off by the shaman clamping a hand around his mouth.
"Not so loud..the village elders and Chieftain even fear the legend might be true as the prophecy intents towards the destruction of everything we know and love.”
Now Matheus was starting to get frustrated. He came here to figure out what the meaning of his dreams was, not some history legend about some great prophecy that he may or may not be somehow connected too!.
He bit back a huff of frustration as his grandmother said one more statement, "You have a role to play in this life..and when you find them remember me and remember the promise you will make.”
"What promise-!?" He asked, but for the hundredth time he was cut off by his grandmother, who simply didn't seem to give a damn.
"Now onto why you are here..eat. These herbs it'll allow you to revisit your dream in even greater detail and allow me to view them as well," she said, handing him a pile of green leaves.
"These must be some herbs...How high will I get if I eat them?" He asked.
"Eat them," ordered the shaman,
Sighing he sniffed the leaves and ignoring the strong putrid smell of them, stuffed them into his mouth and swallowed the plants.
The effect was instant. He became groggily and very tired. He meekly collapsed onto his back and his eyes rolled back up into his head.
He revisited his dream almost as if he was there and he saw everything.
The bones landing in unison and all of them being as black as night.
Then he noticed a glint.
One bone just one wasn’t blackened and burned it was actually yellow almost golden and covered in moss.
It was off to the side, and somehow, no one noticed it, but to Matheus, the biggest subject he noticed was its direction. It was coincidently pointed in the direction of the Forća tribe.
His tribe.
No one had yet noticed it as the blanket of shadow wrapped over the clearing and sent the tribesmen into darkness with only the members of the Sombra clan's eyes visible before they rushed forward.
Just as it seemed they would run right into him, he woke up beside his grandmother as he layed in a small bed made of leaves.
She was nodding with her eyes closed thoughtfully.
"Mhm..I see I very well see now," she stated.
"You see what now?" He asked.
"I see...everything. We will eventually lose everything, but a great new era will arise long after we are gone," she said.
"But..how? How would our deaths be good? And how does this help me find out the meaning of this dream?" He asked.
The Shaman gave a small smile and said, "Because it wasn't a dream..it was a memory"
