Okay screw it they a new species. I call them Russets

Diet: purely carnivorous

Average life span: 15 years

Average height: compare to (not counting height of wings) a German Shepherd

Abilities: heightened sense of hearing and smell, loud scary noises. Either a bark or shrill shriek

Other: work great with humans if hand-raised by one, especially children.
