III
My followers had grown and so did my power. Thonro has been most useful in managing everything and I spent my time meditating, training the little ones, helping them ascend. We grow stronger day by day, the many attacks we had to endure had whittled down as our foes simply don't have the means to win over us. We haven't had the misfortune of dealing with Guardians, nor do I wish. I in no doubt could defeat them as I did many even before my strength increase, but I do not wish for my followers to die senseless deaths. Right now we march through the thick forest, it had grown lush, the wildlife had gotten used to our presence. For what reason we march, a Cabal base has been set up close and had been damaging my domain, the one that I am meant to protect. Those pesky, all destructive low life's had come here, to damage my forest, do cause havoc in this part of the world. We aren't what many would call stealthy, we simply march up to the battle, we do not care about stealth, in glory and battle we are proven. We see them, set up shop in a open area, trees being cut down by the dozen, their war machines destroy what lies in front of them, no life matters to them. I was no different from them not too long ago, but a soul changes after a certain amount of time, once it realizes that the life it lives isn't the one it wants to live, it strives for a change. And I found my change and nobody and I mean nobody will cut that down. Because, I promise, that by my blade, they will fall.
We emerge from the forest into the ravaged land, illuminated by the full moon that floats above in the night sky. The Cabal, belong to the shadow legion, remnants of the Witnesses forces, now honor deficient fools. They immediately engage with us and we in return charge at them, our Acolytes shoot from the back lines while me and the other Knights rush in. Our stance and will unbroken as their bullets hit us, some only flinching a little but to me, these small, meaningless bullets pose no threat to me as I have withstood bigger and more dangerous weapons. I do not even have to use my powers, these pitiful insects stand no chance against someone like me or my army. I must praise them for their bravery, or is it foolishness, they do not run away, instead they face their death. Whatever it might be, a praise is meaningless when you lay there, cut in half. I let out a laugh, my previous life comes creeping into me in the heat of a battle, it feels exhilarating and, fun. Their tanks are pointless once you overwhelm them, a tank without it's infantry is an easy target. Quickly we deal with most of them, in the process loosing a couple of our own, but finally their leader comes out of hiding. A massive Colossus, his machinegun as large as a the three of my knights. We engage in a long staredown, our eyes meeting with ferocity untold.
Kozor: Men, stay back, this one is mine and mine only.
With that command my soldiers kneel down, thrusting their sword into the ground. I begin my approach, even his men stood back, this is a duel. A righteous and fair duel, the winner is the stronger one.
Kozor: State your name oh brave one!
Ku'uark: Ku'uark is the name I go by. And who are you, to attack my people unprovoked.
Kozor: Unprovoked? Hahaha. I am Kozor, a guardian of this forest, the safe keeper of it's residents and it's beauty. And yet, here you are, destroying both.
Ku'uark: Hahahaha. You? The guardian of this forest? The same species that had been destroying everything they saw for centuries. This must be some sort of well thought out joke.
Kozor: We are not a single hive mind, each one of us is a single unit. Each one of us chooses a path they wish to lead and I chose mine long ago, but changed it only recently.
Ku'uark: Each one of us walks a path that had been given to us by our ancestors. You show weakness in though and rethinking. We serve our leaders to our death, not ourselves.
Kozor: And where has that gotten you? Calus is dead and so is the Witness. Either your thinking is wrong or you are so unfathomably stupid that every choice you make is a wrong one. Which one is it?
I can see that this provokes him lightly, something I wished for.
Ku'uark: I hope you give me a worthy battle instead of throwing around empty weightless words. Bastard.
I couldn't help but smile at his little words. I summon a void shield in my left hand and watch him stand in shock.
Ku'uark: H-How?
Kozor: Ready?
Charging at him, he quickly starts shooting back but all the bullets get blocked by the shield, but I know it won't last for too long. At the very last moment I throw the shield at him, hitting him and stunning him for a short moment, but long enough to close in the distance. Face to face, I could smell the blood flow from his mouth, a wicked grin on my face. Swinging down the blade he blocks it with his gun and in return, punching me but it doesn't even faze me. A Titan can punch harder than what he could deliver and quickly return with a more powerful right hook causing his helmet to fly off. He does manage to recover rather quickly, picking up his helmet and putting it back on. Throwing the massive gun to the side he rushes at me and I throw the sword to the side. My blood is boiling from excitement, a sword fight can be fun, but a fist fight is more addictive, only there does strength, endurance and precision matter. Blow after blow we exchange, his armor and mine soaking in each one, but still managing to damage each other. But even he knows that he is fighting a already decided battle. At the moment I showed him I posses the Light he knew this fight was one sided, but still, his will to fight is commendable and appreciated. We fight for half an hour and in the process creating chaos around us, ground cracking, smashing metal construction but finally, he kneels down, the wound and exhaustion finally catch up to him. Exhausted he pants and looks up at me.
Ku'uark: Hah...hah... It was a good fight. Tell me, why didn't you use the Light?
Kozor: It wouldn't have given me such a satisfying battle.
Ku'uark: Hahaha, so you still yearn for a good fight, a proper one.
Kozor: Always will and for that, I must thank you for giving me such a good one. You knew it was a one sided fight, yet, you are brave, or are you foolish.
Ku'uark: Hah, maybe a little bit of both. Bravery and foolishness follow each other closely.
Kozor: Maybe you are right. I am sad that it ended this quickly, but I will remember you Ku'uark. I shall build a statue to remember you.
Ku'uark: Why?
Kozor: Because I can and I want. Normally my foes either run away or engage in cowardly ways of fighting, but you, you gave me a good old, honorable fistfight, no cheap tricks.
Ku'uark: I guess you are right. So, this is the end. There are worse places to die and under such a beautiful sky one must be grateful. Do not take my head, pierce me, that is my final wish.
Kozor: May you find eternal rest in a place that awaits you after death.
I grab my blade up out of the ground and proceed to stand behind Ku'uark. With one strong thrust the blade goes through his chest and quickly his life fades away and upon removing my blade from his body it flops onto the ground below. I sigh out.
Kozor: Soldiers, finish off the rest, if some try to run away, let them for they will bear the title of a coward and a deserter.
They rush past me at the remaining forces and I stand here, looking up at the sky. Why did I say that? Eternal rest in a place after death, how stupid of me to think of that. But here I am, wondering, if there is something after death. What awaits us, is it pure void of everything, another life or something else. Is what we do in this life completely pointless? Maybe what we are doing now won't matter after death, if we create a name for ourselves what does it matter, we are dead, we won't reap the benefits of it. Maybe we do live in a twisted world of parasites, upon which those offspring of great ones leech from the lineage that their ancestors created. At the end of each powerful lineage there will always be a weak one which will end it and another one will take over and this will repeat on for as long as time exists. Quickly my men deal with the enemy, a couple had managed to escape, shame on them. We head back to our home, to burry the dead and for me to honor Ku'uark. He is the only one that actually deserves it.
Unknown POV
???: Shit that is a tone of them.
A Guardian stood on top of a boulder, looking through their scope. A Shadow Legion base in the process of being made and if they were with their friends they would charge in and deal with this, but by themselves, there is too much. But sitting around wouldn't do anything and thinking was in process, thinking of what to do. At that point their Ghost flew out.
Ghost: Caroline, I got more contacts.
Caroline: What? Where?
Ghost: Over there.
The Ghost points to the forest and at first she sees the green eyes and then, from the shadows, a couple dozen Hive, with a massive mean looking one as their leader. There are knights, acolytes and him, but no thralls, no wizards which is weird.
Caroline: That guy looks dangerous.
Ghost: I don't know who they are, but there are some strange power reading from him.
Caroline: What do you mean?
Ghost: I don't know. It is strange.
The two enemies charge at each other and all she can do is watch as they clash, the hive seem stronger than your usual hive. They seem more organized, using actually good tactics where the acolytes with their long range support the knights from the back. They had three tanks, but stood no chance, especially against the big one. But then a large one showed up, a Colossus. If she had gone in there she would have died or gotten captured and god knows what they would have done to her. The two big dudes stare at each other, the Hive one issues a command that makes the others kneel down, it seems that they are no to engage. It is a duel. They seem to be talking to each other, before the Hive one charges at the Colossus. But her eyes go wide as the Hive summons a Void shield, the same on Titans use and blocks the shots. Throwing it at the Colossus to stun it so that it could close the distance.
Ghost: How? What just happened?
Caroline: Did he just use the Light?
Ghost: But he doesn't look like the Lucent Hive, so how?
The battle goes on, from a weapon to fists, they exchange blows after blows and after a significant time the Colossus gives up. The two exchange more words until the Hive stabs the Colossus through the chest and orders the rest to eliminate the remaining and simply proceeds to stand there. But in that moment a Ghost appears near the massive Hive and looks in their direction before disappearing. Caroline quickly heads away to where she parked her ship, she is running as fast as her legs can take her. Something about that one sent fear throughout her body, her instincts telling her to run as far and as fast as she can. This will be reported to the Vanguard immediately, this is something more worrying.
