Chapter 19: For The Sake of the Future, The Countdown Til War Begins

With You

After blacking out and collapsing, the ones who kidnapped you had taken you to a small hut where you laid on a concrete bed covered with a sheet. Just at the moment, on a concrete bed on the other side from you, Sarah who was laid down began to slowly open her eyes. Her vision was blurry at first and she groaned while turning her head to the side to see you a few feet away from her.

"Y/N..." She tried to raise her arm to reach out for you, but struggled a great amount.

"You're awake now..." She heard as she turned her eyes towards the open door of the hut and saw your father standing there with a cane in hand.

"Who are...?" She couldn't finish her sentence as she felt too weak.

"My name is Johnathan, I'm the one who asked for you two to be brought here." Your father said as he slowly walked inside and went over to sit on a small stool. "I am that boy's father, you see?" He said to her with a smile as he rested both his hands on the top of his cane.

"Why did you bring us here?" She asked as he sighed solemnly.

"I need you to deliver a message to those who are in charge of the surface. They need to prepare themselves if they are going to fend off this invasion that is coming." He said as Sarah slowly sat up and raised her brow.

"What invasion?" She asked as he looked straight into her eyes.

"The invasion that could spell the end for the entire kingdom of Vale, and this continent." She was completely shocked by this claim. "You see, many of us are too sick and weak from the injuries and radiation we endured on Lagos Island. Those of us who transformed into our true faunus forms and haven't changed back are in deep sleep. Only a handful of us can return to the surface. And those of us who can reach the surface would rather let everyone up there perish." Your father explained as Sarah felt uneasy about his last statement.

"Let everyone up there...perish...?" Sarah repeated in disbelief as your father nodded.

"Yes...My people were treated like we were below that of even the bugs that crawl around under the dirt. They saw us as a nuisance and a problem that need to be rid of. When they dropped that bomb on us, that was the final nail in the coffin for them...After getting attacked to eradicate your own race and tribe, there was no forgiving the world that was against us." He said as he closed his eyes in emotional pain of remembering that tragic day.

"It's understandable though...Us faunus have been oppressed for generations...But I can't imagine how you all must feel." She said when suddenly your father placed his hand on top of hers as she looked towards him.

"That's the strange thing about me...As much as I know I shouldn't care or even want to help those who tried to hurt us...I don't wish to see them be destroyed in such a way that is as horrible as our past." Sarah was stunned at the words coming from him as your father looked towards you. "And if he's been living with you both humans and faunus of society, then I'm sure that he understands what I believe as well..." He said.

"And what do you believe?" Sarah asked as your father just looked towards her with a gentle smile.

"...That we're all still human..." As those words came out of his mouth, Sarah couldn't find the words to reply to his belief. "We are ALL children of the world of Remnant. We all have a soul inside of us. When we are threatened by a force too great to overcome alone, we must ALL band together to defeat the enemy that stands before us." She said as the sound of footsteps approaching could be heard coming as the woman who was with the two men who kidnapped you came in and spoke.

"Johnathan, it's Axel, he's back." The girl spoke as Sarah got a closer look at her.

Looking closer at her, Sarah noticed that she looked to be around the same age as Y/N and her. She had long dark grey hair and dark red eyes. Her tail was long and more pin-point towards the end as she wore torn up black robe that covered black shorts that stopped at her upper thighs and black shirt with ripped off sleeves. She glanced at Sarah for a moment before furrowing her eyes and staring at her with a cold look as Sarah felt uneased by this.

"Thank you, Sam. I'll be there once my son wakes up." Your father said as she bowed to his response before leaving. "I'm sorry if she was a little rough with you on the way down here. If you had struggled with her, you most likely would've drowned." He said to Sarah.

"Who was that?" Sarah asked curiously.

"Samantha, or Sam as she likes to be called by us. She used to be friends with Y/N back home but she never had the bond that was shared between him and Anna. After the explosion and transforming back to her normal form, she became the strongest warrior out of all the survivors. She's the one who leads expeditions to get us food and anything else that we need, though there isn't much we can get." Your father said as a rustling noise could be heard and the two of them turned to see you moving around. "Looks like he's ready to wake up." He said as Sarah rushed over and knelt down next to you while taking your hand.

"Y/N? Can you hear me?" Sarah asked as you groaned and opened your eyes to look at her.

"Agh...yeah...I had the craziest dream just now--." You cut yourself short when you noticed the room you were in and looked over to see your father sat a few steps away. "Or maybe I wasn't dreaming..." You said as Sarah helped you sit up as rubbed your neck in pain.

"How are you feeling?" Your father asked.

"Honestly...Like I just got hit by a train and then a meteorite landed on me..." You said as you glanced towards him. "I still can't believe it that there were more survivors...And I missed you." You said as your father smiled at you.

"Not as much as I missed you, my boy." He said while reaching over and patting your shoulder as you smiled in relief, seeing your father again, but grew a disheartened look. "What's wrong?" He asked.

"Dad...there's something you need to know..." You said as you sat up straight and looked him in the eyes. "Mom survived the blast also. She's alive." You said as your father's eyes widened in shock.

"What?" He said in disbelief. "Natalia...She's alive...?" He asked if what you said was true as you nodded.

"Yes. But she's not the same as us...Atlas had found her and turned her into a weapon. She has no memory or recollection of anything...They've made her into their little war toy..." You said in hate before your father placed his hand on top of your clenched fist.

"No...She's still alive, and I know that she will remember us." Your father said in a reassuring voice. "She may not look the same, and they may have tried to erase and mess with her memories, but if you're sure it's her, then her soul is still with her as well. That is the one thing they can never change." He said as you could only hope that there is something still left of your mother in there. "Now, young girl, you need to be on your way." He said as he groaned while getting up.

"Huh? Going?" She asked in confusion as you and her stood up while your father stood at the door.

"If Vale is to survive the on coming attack, they and Atlas need to be fully informed of the threat that is on the horizon." Your father said as he walked out and the two of you followed behind him as he walked down a path of old stone structures on both sides.

"Wait, what threat? What's going on?" You asked him.

"While on the hunt for food for everyone here, one of us found something strange Southeast passed the mountains of the infamous tragedy of Mountain Glenn. There was once a large body of water that had a stream lead out to sea. The one of us who was exploring went up the stream to see if there was anything that could be useful, but instead he found that the lake had been changed and turned into a caustic pool of grimm sludge. He's just come back with an update." Your father said as you turned a corner and climbed up a stair case as you noticed you were back at the wall of the cavern you were all in.

As you reached the end of the staircase and saw the floor that you were climbing to, there was a group of your people standing there as they looked like they were waiting. Looking around at the people, Sarah noticed Sam who she had previously met sitting on a stone with an unamused look on her face. Standing a few feet to her left was the dark tanned man who was a part of your kidnapping. Across from him was another man who had a light skin tone than the other man, and he had green eyes with a medium-sized and more rounded tail with rounded spines on his back.

"Y/N and Sarah, meet the three warriors of this group. Sam, you should know her, Y/N." Your father said as looked at her with relief and smiled.

"I'm happy you made it out." You said as she just nodded and averted eye contact as an awkward silence fell between you.

"So, this is your ol' kiddo, huh? Looks just like ya!" The dark tanned man said while roughly patting your shoulder as you awkwardly smiled.

"This is Clark. He was one of the first I found when I woke up after the explosion." Your father said as he stuck his hand out and you shook it.

"Johnathan, if we're going to get started, then we need to hurry this along." The other man said as your father nodded in agreement.

"And this is Richard. One of my friends when the island council was still a thing. Y/N, these three will help you train to hone your abilities and increase your strength for the upcoming war." Your father said as you and Sarah were both confused.

"Wait, what do you mean?" You asked as your father turned to Sarah.

"Sarah, you must return to the surface and warn those at the chain of their command of the oncoming threat." Johnathan said as you were putting things together in your head.

"Wait, you're telling me to stay here and train while Vale's crippled and open to attack?" You said as your father just nodded once. "No...No, I can't just stay here. I need to be there if anything happens. W-Why can't you just come up to the surface and tell them yourself? Why do we need to be down here?" You asked.

"Because you are NOT strong enough yet. Y/N, you may not realize it, but our bodies are filled with nuclear radiation." He said as you remained silent trying to understand what he was talking about. "While you were down here, Sarah was shielded from the radiation levels of this underground cavern by Sam. Had she not, you would've died minutes after getting here." He said as Sam lifted her arm towards Sarah and revealed a blue barrier of sorts surrounding Sarah. "She can't hold it much longer and she needs to focus on getting my son stronger. If he trains here, he will absorb the radiation of the planets core and becoming stronger tenfold. If we are to be ready by the time the dark forces invade, then we must all do our parts." Your father explained as everyone's gaze was upon you two while Sarah slowly looked at you and you shook your head.

"No...No, I promised to be with you! I-I can't--!" You were cut off when Sarah hugged you and you instantly hugged her back. "I can't leave you all again..." You said as you held her close.

"You aren't leaving us..." She said as she pulled back so the two of you could look each other eye to eye. "You're coming to save us after you finish becoming the warrior you were meant to be." She said as she placed her hands on each cheek of your face as you both closed your eyes and leaned on one another's foreheads as the faces of everyone you've met flashed through your mind. "I believe you'll save us all." She said as you took one last look at each other and you just nodded as you slowly separated, you going to stand next to your father, while Sam walked over and grabbed a hold of Sarah's hand.

"Take a deep breath, we'll be moving quick through the tunnels and shoot straight to the surface." Sam said as Sarah nodded.

"Thank you, Sarah. I hope we are all ready in time for the oncoming battle. Many lives will be endanger, but we must not abandon hope. They may not realize it yet, but we all must stand together, both humans and faunus as one. For we are all children of Remnant, and we must come together to survive." Johnathan said as you took one final look at Sarah. "Good luck." He said as Sarah nodded and took a deep breath before holding onto Sam as the two jumped from the platform you were on and into the tunnel of the waterfall.

Sarah held her breath as she squinted her eyes and was amazed at the speed they were traveling through to tunnel. After a few more moments, there was a light coming towards the end of the tunnel as she heard Sam.

"Cover your ears." Sam warned her as Sarah plugged her ears with her fingers and the two shot shot out of the tunnel like torpedo's as the sunlight breaching the surface of the water made everything visible.

Sam waved her hand in front of her in circular motions as a vortex began to take shape and she sped up to enter the vortex as the two were spinning around shot towards the surface of the water at great speeds. In a few moments, the two of them shot out of the water and into the air as they saw they were about a mile away from the beach they dove from.

"Alright, this is where we go our separate ways!" Sam yelled as Sarah noticed the barrier protecting her had faded and she spread her wings out and flapped freely as they hovered in place. "I don't know what his father's thinking wanting to save these surface dwellers, but if it were me, I'd let them all be destroyed for taking my home." Sam said as Sarah could only try to understand how she felt. "But, it's not my call. No matter what they say or do, and even if they don't believe you, Sarah, you have to make sure they're ready for what's coming. We can't save them all. They have to defend themselves as well." She said as Sarah nodded. "Good luck. I'll have your boyfriend back to you in no time." Sam said as Sarah blushed bright red and stammered her words.

"N-No! T-T-That's not it! We're just friends! That's all...!" She stuttered as Sam rolled her eyes and smirked.

"Whatever you say. See you when the battle starts." Sam said as she let go and began to free fall with her arms spread open before flipping and diving into the ocean, where she disappeared once again.

"Alright..." Sarah turned towards Vale as she clenched her fists and had a determined look on her face. "...I need to do my part. I won't let them down!" She thought while flying off as fast as she could to her allies.

Meanwhile, back with you, Johnathan and the other three brought you to an ancient arena of sorts as your father sat in the stands above while you stood across Sam, Clark and Richard. Sam stood across from you with her arms crossed as she began to lay out the details for your training.

"Alright, for your training, we're going to focus on three things. First, Richard will teach you some techniques to defend yourself better." Sam said as Richard gave you a thumbs up.

"Don't worry, by the time we're done, you'll be tougher to take down than your own Godzilla form." He said to you.

"After that, Clark here is going to teach you how to better harness your abilities and the energy within you." She said as Clark gave you a nod of determination.

"I have no doubts you'll pick it up in no time." Clark said with confidence.

"And once you're done with them, you have me to finish things off. I'll show you how to unleash an offensive attack that's unstoppable." Sam said before uncrossing her arms. "But before that, let's start with a fight. Transform." She commanded you as you were confused.

"W-Wait, what?" You asked as she rolled her eyes.

"Ugh, I said transform. You know, into that beast form you were in when fighting that fake-godzilla kin." She said as you remembered vaguely that you were in a different form when you fought against Diana.

"I-I can't...It's too powerful to handle and I could hurt one of you guys. It's best I don't turn into that ever again..." You trailed off, but in that instant, a tail slammed against your cheek as you were sent flying into the arena wall.

"Hey, you may be destined to be the strongest, but you ain't even at the level of the basic lizard compared to us. Now, fight." Sam said as the other two backed away.

"Oh boy, she's doing it again." Richard said in a pitiful tone.

"Well, let's see just how long he'll last. Maybe he'll beat our records." Clark said as the two of them jumped from the arena and into the stands.

Play Song At Top

You fell to your knees and coughed as you couldn't have even imagined the strength behind her attack. Blood dripped from your mouth as you wiped it off and looked up to see her waving you over in a taunting manner. You glared at her as you spat blood to your side and stood tall with your fists clenched.

"Alright, you want the beast? You got him." You said as your eyes suddenly shifted and shined bright blue as scales covered your body with a few growing towards your face like veins.

"Come on then." Sam said as she got into a defensive stance.

In an instant you shot towards her with your right hand reeled back, but as you threw the punch it was immediately blocked by her right arm. Without showing any signs of pain or irritation, you were shocked at how she withstood your power like nothing. In one swift motion, she spun around and elbowed you in the stomach as you grunted in pain. After that you tried to retaliate, but was met with another punch to the side of your face as you hit the ground with a loud thud. Coughing, you glared up at Sam as she kicked you away as you rolled across the ground.

"Your movements are too linear. You're too east to read. Be more creative!" Sam said as she watched you spin to one knee and fire your atomic breath at her. "Your fire is too weak!" She yelled as she brought both her arms up speared her hands through your attack before swiping it into nothing.

"Dammit!" You yelled as you used your tail to launch you in the air and dove towards her with a kick.

"Too slow!" She yelled as she maneuvered out of the way and grabbed your foot before spinning around and throwing you into a stone pillar that broke on impact.

Slowly rising from the rubble, you climbed out of the pile of rocks bloodied and weak as you had reverted to your regular form once again. Sam glared at you when she noticed you weren't moving to continue.

"What's wrong? Come at me!" She commanded.

"S-Strong..." You muttered as she raised a brow.

"Huh?" She said in confusion.

"T-Too strong..." You said as you tried to get up, but couldn't. "M-My body can't move..." You said as you had a disheartened look on your face.

"Don't screw with me..." She said as you stared at her. "...You're supposed to be the one who saves us...Your own people. If you can't beat me...Then how are you going to protect those surface dwellers you love so much?!" She yelled as you grew wide-eyed, knowing the danger that would soon come to them. "Where's the man who came back from the brink of death when his friends were in danger!? Where's the warrior who summoned one of our kin from deep sleep?! Get up!" She yelled as you gritted your teeth and tried your hardest to get up as blue sparks surged around your spines. "Fight! Fight like the fate of the world is in your hands! Because it is!" She yelled as your bones creaked and your tail smacked the ground so hard it cracked. "GET UP, Y/N! GET UP!!!!" She yelled.

"Ngh....! Guh!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" Your screamed echoed as your eyes flashed blue once more and the debris around you was blown away by a strong gust of wind.

You growled as you set your eyes back on Sam and launched towards her at speeds unfathomable. Reacting barely in time, she dodged your punch by a hair as a cut appeared on her cheek. You roared as you threw a volley of power punches towards her that she could barely block, and while she did stop the attacks, the power of each attack shook her to the very end of her tail. Richard and Clark watched in surprise while your father smiled at the determination you showed. You roared as you punched Sam in the gut and made her cough blood before tail whipping her across the chest and sending her flying into the arena wall. You breathed heavily and growled before realizing the feat that you had just done. Looking down at your hands, you saw blue sparks surge around them as you felt a new rise of power flow through your body. Meanwhile, Sam fell out of the wall you put her in and dropped to one knee as she coughed and laughed at the same time.

"Ehehe...That's the guy I was looking for." She said as she wiped some blood from her mouth and stared at you while getting up.

"Now this might be fun." Clark said as he got off his seat and jumped into the arena.

"He actually got a hit on her. I'll be damned." Richard said while jumping down as well.

Once you heard them land behind you, Sam walked over to stand a few feet away as you watched her crack her knuckles and neck before slamming her tail down and getting into a fighting stance.

"Well, are you ready?" She asked as you grinned while the fire inside your heart burned brighter than ever.

"Anytime..." You said as you got back into your defensive stance. "COME!!!!!!" You screamed as your training for the climactic battle to come begins.
