7. No One's Savior

I was frozen in my spot.

His half lidded eyes were fixed on me, as if he was trying to figure me out.

"You again?" He spoke, his voice deep and raspy.

I approached him slowly but he raised his gun at me.

"Are you serious?" I asked in pure disgust. He had enough energy to raise a gun at me, but not to get up a flight of stairs?

He lowered the gun and grit his teeth. "What are you doing here? A mission perhaps."

I scoffed. "I should ask you that question. Why are you in a slave and organ trade operation?"

His frowned. "I have no idea what you're talking about. I only came here to collect what's mine."

I bit my lip. "I see. Is it possible for you to move, I really need to get up those stairs."

He propped himself up. "I would but you see-"

He pushed his jacket aside and I gasped silently. He had been shot and was bleeding pretty badly.

"How'd you let that happen? Aren't you a top Mafia Boss or something?" I asked, but only a small smirk appeared on his lips.

"I was caught off guard,"he said next before releasing a groan.

The sound of footsteps coming our way had everyone on alert. I looked at him, his eyes were closing down and his breathing was coming out in short pants.

"What do we do?" Mira asked and I chewed harshly on my bottom lip.

He was a Mafia Boss, he shouldn't be my problem. But there was something inside of me that couldn't just leave him like this. For someone who isn't anyone's savior, I've been saving alot of people lately.

I pulled off my hoodie and ripped off a big piece. I pressed it into his side, his lips releasing a throaty groan.

"You're a Mafia boss, tough it up,"I said, and his lips twitched into a small smile. Up this close, he was more than just good-looking. Even hurt, he looked calm. In control. Like this was just a regular day for him.

"Give me your belt," I said next before reaching for it.

He helped with some of his bodyweight as I pulled the belt off. I wrapped it around his waist and tightened it. It should help stop the bleeding for now. I took the gun in his, I checked it and it was empty.

"You were going to shoot me with no bullets?" I asked, but he just shrugged. Was he even taking the situation seriously? He seemed so nonchalant.

"Mira, help me," I said, as she moved to the other side of him.

"Are you going to kill me after this?" He muttered and I rolled my eyes.

"If I wanted you dead, you'd be years ago."

And with my final words, Mira and I helped him up.

"You're so heavy, oh my God!" Mira said and I had to agree. His shoulders alone weighed a ton.

"I..I work out alot,"he whispered out as we ascended the stairs.

"Don't pass out, I hate dragging people unless they're dead,"I said out loud, and I could swear I heard him chuckle.

"Hey! Stop right there!"

We froze as two men started marching towards us. We couldn't turn back, it was not possible to go back down the stairs.

"Hold him,"I said to Mira before pulling away.

I ran towards the men, the first one got a fist to the gut. The other one went for my neck, his thick fingers wrapped around it like an anaconda. I kicked him in the knee and landed a punch on his left cheek. His grip loosened. I was free.

My celebration was short lived, because a hand snaked around my throat from behind.

"You little bitch!" The man shouted in my ear.

I grit my teeth and reached for his hair. I pulled on it before giving him an elbow to the chest. He groaned out and released my throat. I didn't wait, I kicked him right in the face. He fell over. Now they were both down.

I rushed back to Mira and we continued down the hallway.

"You're a badass,"the 'boss' said and I couldn't contain my smirk.

"Thanks for the compliment."

We continued navigating through the building, cautious and quiet. I had yet to see an exit; the place just kept on going.

"Skai, they know where we are," Mira said, eyes flicking up.

I followed her gaze. My eyes landed on a security camera tucked in the corner.

I cursed under my breath. "We have to get out of here now."

We continued on. The place was filled with stacked crates, cardboard boxes and rusty pipes.

Behind us, I heard footsteps, heavy and steady, echoing through the halls.

They weren't running, but relentless, inching closer step by step.

We rounded another corner, a big metal door right ahead of us. It had to be the exit.

Three men appeared suddenly, cutting around the corner, coming straight for us.

They moved fast, blocking the way. I couldn't think, there was no way out.

"What now?" Mira said, panic clearly evident in her voice.

I looked at the 'boss', his eyes were partially shut and his breathing was shallow.

"Hold him and stand back. I'll handle them. They won't shoot us, we're clients."

Mira complied, pulling him aside. I scanned the men, catching only their stern eyes staring back. They looked different from the ones before, more built and professional.

One had a piece of metal rod. The one to the left drew a knife. The third had nothing, just his hands balled into fists.

"Can't believe this little bitch caused us so much trouble," the one at the front said, taking a few steps forward.

"If you know what's good for you, you'll surrender," he added, but I stood my ground.

I cracked my knuckles, the sound echoing as I balled my fists."Come and make me then."

The one on the left charged, the metal rod swinging with force, slicing through the air. I ducked low, drove forward, and slammed my fist into his chest. He grunted and stumbled back. I grabbed his wrist and I twisted it hard. I didn't let go until I hear the cracking of bone. He groaned and fell to the ground.

The second came from the right, swinging his knife aggressively. I leaned back just enough to miss it, the blade slipping past my ribs. I drove an uppercut into his jaw, the impact sent him reeling backwards.

The final guy approached me. I tightened my stance, fists raised.

"I'm gonna have so much fun with you," he said with a low voice, getting into the same fighting stance as me.

By then, I was breathing hard. My mouth was dry, and my muscles were sore. I was tired, more tired than I had been in a long time but I couldn't stop now.

The people behind me were counting on me.

He charged without hesitation. I braced myself, sidestepped, and landed a solid punch to his side, but he barely flinched. He swung back fast; it grazed my jaw, forcing me to stumble slightly.

He kept coming. Another punch, I blocked it, but the impact rattled through my arms. This guy was much stronger than the other two, and he wasn't backing down. He lunged again, faster this time, and I barely managed to duck under his wild swing.

I tried to punch him again, but he didn't even flinch. His fist hit my ribs hard, and the air left my lungs. I stumbled back, but caught myself just in time. I started hyperventilating, and the urge to fall was creeping in.

"Enough of this,"he said, already moving towards me.

Before I could move, he grabbed my wrists in a death grip. His head connected with mine and I swore I saw stars. My vision blurred, my feet losing their life.

"Skai!" I heard Mira shouted in the distance. The sound almost inaudible.

"I should take a taste for all your trouble, don't you think?" He muttered in my ear.

I heard him grin before I was pushed to the ground. The impact sent pain shooting through my back. Focus slipped from me, my mind and body refusing to obey. I lay staring at the ceiling, everything distorted.

I felt his weight settle on top of me. A hand on my neck, but I couldn't bring myself to move. A hand chucked between my thighs and gripped me. I tried to struggle with my feet, but it was no use. It had been so long since I'd felt this hopeless.

Reality sank in when his fingers dipped into my shorts. I reached out, my almost lifeless fingers grabbing his arms.

Suddenly, a gunshot echoed through the entire building. I felt his body weight lift off me. I blinked rapidly, trying to regain my consciousness. I heard the buzzing of a sound before a few more gunshots were heard.

I stood up slowly, my feet lifting off the ground. The exit door was opened and the guard was dead.

I watched as a man rushed in, two others following behind. He aimed his gun at me, eyes darting around the room.

Then his gaze locked onto the boss, whose eyes were shut and unmoving.

"Boss!" he shouted, running to his side.

Mira pulled away and rushed to me. I wrapped her in a warm hug.

"Are we okay now?" she asked, looking up at me.

"I don't know," I admitted.

The man, who I assumed was his right-hand, lifted the 'boss' and carried him out of the building. At the entrance, he glanced back over his shoulder.

"Need a ride?"

I let out a relieved breath and followed him, Mira by my side.
