32. Hidden Base

My hands were shaking uncontrollably. We were on our way back home, but I couldn't focus.

Nothing ever scared me, I was the one who did the scaring.

But the thought of those four men being after me... that brought out a fear I didn't even know I could feel.

Tyrel was driving at a steady pace, checking the rear view mirror every now and then.

Angel took my hand in his, tilting my chin so I could look into his eyes.

"I'm not going to let them hurt you Skai," he said, his voice firm and serious.

I gave him a half smile. "I know. It's just the fear of being a target. It's like the tables have turned."

He reached over and pecked my lips. "Don't worry about it. We're in this together."

The silence settled between us again, but his hand never left mine. I was lucky to have him. At least I wouldn't be doing this alone.

I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder.

"Boss, I think we're being followed," Tyrel said suddenly.

I shot up and turned around. A black car trailed behind us, keeping its distance but never backing off.

"Angel," I whispered, panic rising inside me.

"Tyrel, you know the drill," Angel said, and the car surged forward.

He reached behind the seat and pulled out a gun, handing it to me. My hands trembled as I took it.

Then he reached for the dashboard and drew out another one.

"The safehouse boss?" Tyrel asked, before taking a sharp turn.

"Yes. Try to lose them first," Angel replied, his voice stern.

I reached down and unclasped my shoes, slipping my feet out before tossing them aside.

"Skai, I've been thinking. If they have a blood tie to your family, someone would've made a deal with them," Angel said, his eyes piercing into mine.

I frowned. "I don't know anyone who would want us dead. My father was an assassin, probably it started from him."

Angel nodded. "When we get rid of the brothers, we're going to find whoever made that tie, and put a bullet through their skulls.

I clicked the safety off. "I can't wait."

He smirked.

"They're catching up! Hold on," Tyrel exclaimed, as he blew through a red light.

Tyrel pressed harder on the gas, and the car shot forward. The sound of screeching tires filled the air as the black car stayed close behind.

I gripped the handle beside me, my heart pounding in my chest. Angel rolled down his window and aimed his gun.

A loud crack echoed as he fired. The other car swerved but didn't stop.

"Faster!" Angel ordered.

Tyrel turned sharply onto a narrow side of the road, the tires sliding for a moment before catching again. The city lights faded behind us, replaced by the dark stretch of trees.

"They're still there," I said, looking back.

"Not for long," Angel muttered. He fired again. This time, the car behind us slowed, smoke rising from its front tire.

Tyrel didn't wait to see more. He kept driving until the trees thickened and the road turned into gravel. Finally, the car came to a stop in front of a small, wooden cabin.

"We're here," Tyrel said, breathing hard.

I exhaled, only then realizing I'd been holding my breath the whole time.

The place was dark. The only illumination was the moonlight.

"We'll be safe here for the night," Angel said, taking my hand in is.

I frowned. "Are you sure? It seems a bit basic and unsecured."

He only smirked.

We walked up the steps and stopped in front of the door. Angel took a step forward, and a thin red beam swept over him from head to toe. A soft beep followed, then the door clicked open.

I was shocked.

We stepped inside, Tyrel right behind. The door closed and then the lights flickered on.

I blinked rapidly before finally adjusting.

The cabin was nothing like it looked from the outside. The air was cool and faintly metallic, not the musty warmth I expected.

The walls were lined with polished wood, but subtle seams revealed hidden panels and built-in screens. A low hum came from somewhere beneath the floorboards.

Angel pressed his hand to a small keypad by the wall. A section of the floor slid open silently, revealing a narrow stairway that led underground.

I followed him down, my footsteps echoing off concrete walls. The space below was larger than I imagined, bright lights, metal racks, weapons neatly arranged along the walls, and shelves of supplies stacked in perfect order.

It wasn't a cabin. It was a fortress disguised as one.

"Angel," I said softly. I was beyond shocked at this point.

"He smiled, almost too casually. "Yeah, baby? This cabin's got a small bathroom and a mini bar too."

Tyrel footsteps echoed as he came down. "Boss, I'm taking an early night."

"Yeah, go ahead," Angel replied.

Tyrel nodded before going back upstairs.

"Let me show you our room," Angel said, holding his hand out for me.

I took it and followed beside him. We went farther down, into a smaller section of the cabin. A single bed sat in the corner, a neatly folded blanket resting on top. The room was simple, no windows, just soft light from a lamp on the nightstand.

I sighed. "What if they find us?"

Angel shrugged off his jacket. "They won't get in. I've got a defense grid outside. Press one button and it's over."

He pulled off his turtleneck next, dropping it on the table. I bit my lip and averted my eyes.

"You're joining me for the shower?" He asked, taking a stance in front of me.

"I don't have anything to put on," I said softly.

He hummed, walking over to a small hatch in the wall. After a moment, he pulled it open and took something out, holding it up with a smirk.

It was a white button-up shirt.

I tilted my head. "No bottom?"

He pressed his lips together, then reached back into the hatch and pulled out a pair of boxers.

I grinned and took them from his hand.

"Let's go," he said, and I followed behind him.

The bathroom was small but nice, with clean tiles and a very bright ceiling light that filled the space.

I pulled the curtain, sealing off the entrance. Angel started pulling his belt, totally unbothered. And here I was shaking like a damn leaf.

"Do you need help?" He asked, gesturing to my blazer.

I shook my head. I reached for the buttons, slowly pulling them apart. I bit my lip once I undid the last one.

Angel had unbuttoned his pants and was pulling it down. I wanted to look away but I couldn't. He was sexy. His boxers hugged his hips perfectly.

I swallowed harshly. My eyes went to his lower region that was pushing against his boxers.

"Let me help you," he said stepping forward.

I didn't have time to protest. His hands reached for my blazer, before slipping it off my shoulders. Instinctively, I wrapped my arms around myself.

I was so embarrassed and nervous. My knees felt like they wanted to give out. And we haven't even started showering yet.

He stood still, slowly dissecting me with his eyes. His gaze was intense, burning right through me.

"C-Can you turn around?" I asked, my voice cracking.

He raised an eye, a frown on his face. "Why? We're still going to shower together. "

I gulped. "Y-Yeah, I know. But..."

He ran a hand through his hair before turning around. I got a perfect view of his hot, muscular back.

I hurriedly pulled off my panty and bra. I stepped inside the shower, turning it on, and letting the warm water wash over me.

I heard shuffling, then the shifting of the shower curtain.

My breath caught.

A hand reached beside me, turning the water off. I swallowed.

I could feel his hot breath on my neck.

"Skai"

His voice was raspy, sending shivers from the tip of my neck to the small of my back.

His hands gripped my waist, turning me around to face him. I tried to cover myself, but he wasn't having it.

"Skai, stop." his voice was firm, holding no room for protest.

"A-Angel," I managed out. I wasn't sure what I wanted to say.

He pulled my hands away with ease, before I could react, he had backed me into the wall. He placed my hands above my head, holding them in place.

"You're driving me crazy, Skai."

I closed my eyes. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't focus. This was too much.

I felt as he trailed a finger from the base of my neck, all the way down to my abdomen.

"Look at me, Skai."

There was just something about the way he said my name. I opened my eyes slowly, meeting his intense gaze.

"Can I kiss you?" He asked, eyes flickering to my lips.

Things could escalate very quickly. I didn't want our first time to be in a shower at an isolated cabin.

"Baby relax, it's just kissing. I won't go any further unless you want me to."

I hummed, thinking over his words. After a moment, I finally said, "Okay."

He released my hands and gripped my waist. He looked at my lips for a second, before finally capturing them between his.

I grabbed his arms, as I kissed him back slowly. Everything got hotter and heavier. My hands end up being tangled in his hair, and his went further around my waist.

He groaned, pressing his lower half onto me.

I moaned out, pulling my lips away from him.

I didn't want to look down.

But I did.

I regretted it.

Lord have mercy!
