42. Green Light

"Maybe you and Lee Know can start up some sort of paranormal detective agency."

Hyunjin snorted at Seungmin's suggestion as the two of them sat in Chris' bedroom beside Bang Chan's still unconscious form. Today was the day of the big presentation at the entertainment company and the two of them had volunteered to sit with Bang Chan longer because of this. It left the two of them awkwardly waiting around for hopefully good news and talking about nonsensical topics like a paranormal detective agency.

"We only saw Chris' ghost," Hyunjin said. "I haven't seen one since and I don't think Lee Know has either."

"That's what you both think, but I mean, it's not like you've tested the theory."

Rolling his eyes, Hyunjin looked over at Bang Chan. It was odd to think that Chris had been his half brother. Hyunjin couldn't help but wonder how his life would turned out if he had known that fact before. Whatever the outcome though, Hyunjin wished that he could at the very least thank Chris' mother. It was because of her that his own mother and himself had escaped Jongsu before they got in too deep and suffered a horribly abusive life.

"Do you think the pitch is going well?" Hyunjin asked, changing topics as he looked away from Bang Chan to Seungmin again.

"I'm sure it is. I mean, you have the original writer of the show partnering up with the woman that accidentally helped his character come to life backed by the bull dog Lee Know. I'm sure it's an ace in the hole."

"An ace in the hole? Since when did you start speaking old man?"

Seungmin shot Hyunjin a glare which caused him to laugh before looking at the box by Seungmin's feet. It had taken a lot of tinkering since the DVD player had been struck by lightning and a paranormal presence, but they had fixed it nonetheless. They planned on giving it to Bonita when she, I.N, and Lee Know arrived.

It was then that the sound of the door opening downstairs sounded out followed by footsteps up the stairs. Soon the three people Hyunjin had just been thinking about were standing in the doorway flanked by Felix. Hyunjin figured he must have gone for support.

"So, how did it go?" Seungmin asked as the four of them entered the room.

"They were a bit skeptical at first given that I signed the rights to the show away to begin with," I.N started.

"But after we got going and convinced them of our vision, it didn't take them long to take the bait," Bonita added with a small smile, I.N mirroring it beside her.

"That's great!" Seungmin exclaimed.

"What's even better is they are having Lee Know here help with producing and directing."

"Not sure if that's better or not..." Minho started to mutter just as Bonita playfully batted his arm, causing him to smirk.

"Well congratulations!" Hyunjin said he stood up from his seat. He bent to pick up the box by Seungmin's feet before walking it over to Bonita. "We have something for you, by the way."

"Is that my DVD player?" she asked as she took the box.

"It is," Hyunjin said. "Should be working like new."

Minho could see the look that came across Bonita's face as she looked from the DVD player nestled in the box to Bang Chan's form on the bed.

"Well let's test it out," Minho said. "See if maybe that will help Bang Chan return home before he fades completely."

Bonita nodded. She had been hoping all day that if her and I.N managed to secure the greenlight that Bang Chan would miraculously return to his show and be okay. Seeing that that wasn't the case, she knew they needed to try this too. They owed it to him.

"I'll help you set it up," I.N offered as he walked over to where Chris' television sat in a lonely corner of the room.

Dust swirled off the top of the television as I.N swiveled it sideways slightly so they could reach the back. Bonita brought the DVD player over and began to plug the cords in. Soon Bonita, I.N, Felix, Minho, Seungmin, and Hyunjin were all standing in front of the television as it and the DVD player were turned on. All of them seemed to collectively hold their breaths at the black screen, watching as it soon dissolved into the main menu screen for Bubble.

"Oh my word. It's actually working," Minho said.

"Did you really doubt our work?" Hyunjin asked as Minho gave him a glare.

Bonita grabbed the remote and navigated through the menu to the episode she had been playing when the storm had come around the first time. Her heart dropped in her stomach when the episode started to play only to display an empty bunker and dead air.

"He really did pop out of the show," I.N said in awe as he looked from the screen where Bang Chan should be spouting his lines to the bed.

Pausing the show on the empty bunker, she looked over at the bed too. Bang Chan still laid there the same as he had been.

"Let's just leave it for now," Minho said. "Just because it's not doing anything now doesn't mean it won't. Besides, we have a win to celebrate."

Even though Minho knew they hadn't had much to celebrate recently, he knew that they ought to properly celebrate the fact that the Bubble project got greenlit. After all, it made Bonita's lifelong dream of being a writer come true.

"We need to call up Changbin and Han to invite them too," Minho added. "We all should do something together."

"Look at you suggesting a party," Hyunjin said. "Didn't know you had it in you. Did you also get struck by lightning or something?"

"Struck by Cupid's arrow is more like it," Felix piped up, causing the two of them to chuckle.

"Bonita brings out the good in me," Minho said as he looked at both of them, "but that doesn't mean you both aren't walking on thin ice. Keep it up and neither of you will get cake."

"There's going to be cake?" Seungmin asked, sounding as excited as a child.

As Minho, Bonita, Seungmin and Hyunjin left the room, I.N went over to Bang Chan's bedside. He stood there, idly reaching out his fingers to brush over Bang Chan's.

"You're going to the party too, aren't you Jeongin?" Felix asked as he walked up to him from behind.

"I...I don't know if I should."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean someone ought to stay here with Bang Chan," I.N said. "He shouldn't be alone."

"Your parents are going to be here," Felix said, "and trust me. If Chris were here, he'd want you to celebrate your victory instead of wasting all your time worrying."

Nodding, I.N brought his hand away from Bang Chan's before following Felix towards the bedroom door. He paused in the doorway to cast one last look at Bang Chan on the bed before following Felix down the stairs to chase after the rest of them.
