29. Seas Of Darkness
"What happened?"
It was a simple question that Seungmin was struggling to answer as he sat in the chair. He was currently getting hounded by nurses that were trying to get as many details as possible in order to help the patients he brought in. Through the barricade of nurse and doctor limbs, he could make out the gurneys that carried both an unconscious Lee Know and Hyunjin quickly through the ER.
"What happened?" Seungmin got asked for the hundredth time, one of the nurses finally looking at him to see if he was hurt since he had soot all over him.
His fingers curled the folder on his lap, half twisting the name written on it. It had been tossed towards him from the burning building and was surprisingly the only thing that seemed to make it out unscathed.
What happened, they asked?
Too many things all at once.

Seeing that the car horn wasn't doing anything, Seungmin got out of the car and raced towards the burning building. Smoke filled the air, already making it so he practically choked on it as he stood outside the main entrance of the building. Inside the fire tore through the abandoned remains, the sounds of popping and shattering sounding like a series of fireworks being let off.
"HYUNJIN! LEE KNOW!" screamed out Seungmin as his eyes searched the flaming interior in front of him before looking skyward.
It was then that there — in one of the upper floor windows — he was able to make out two figures. His eyes widened when he realized it was who he was looking for. Smoke filled the air behind them like a backdrop as they stood at the third floor window. The fire had miraculously not yet reached where they were standing, but it was obvious there was no way for them to get down.
"SEUNGMIN!" shouted Hyunjin. "Catch this folder! We need it!"
"What about you guys?!" he shouted back, panic surging through him as Lee Know leaned out the window a bit to toss the folder as far away from the building as he could.
Seungmin watched the empty folder swirl lazily through the air, dancing in various directions and half threatening to twirl its way into the nearby flames. Thankfully it didn't. As Seungmin raced forward, he was able to pluck it from the air like a fallen leaf before looking back at where the two of them stood in the window.
"You both need to try to get down!" shouted Seungmin. "You'll die if you stay up there!"
Lee Know, who was still leaning out the window, noticed a small part of the roof that was jutting out underneath the window. Flames were already eating away at one part of it, but it was still off to the left of them. If they were quick enough, they might be able to get down before their section caught fire and eventually collapsed. Seungmin watched in horror as Lee Know swung out the window first followed shortly by Hyunjin. They crouched and made their way towards the lower part of the slanted roof and were about to drop down closer to the ground when a thunderous crack echoed out through the night. The two of them soon disappeared as the part of the roof collapsed inwards. It was as if the building ate them whole.

"...I saw them lying unconscious inside after the part of the roof had collapsed," said Seungmin as he kept his eyes trained towards the folder instead of on the people surrounding him. "I don't know how, but I managed to drag them each out one at a time and then rushed them here."
He paused for a moment as he finally looked up.
"Are they going to be okay?" he asked.
"They are both in the ER right now so we'll know something soon," said one of the nurses.
'Their faces are passive enough to win poker games,' thought Seungmin as they eventually moved away to tend to more patients that came into the ER.
Seungmin looked after the nurses, watching as two men his age rushed into the ER area. They looked towards the gurneys where Lee Know and Hyunjin both laid and were getting attended to before turning towards him in the chair.
"Do you know them?" asked one of them, the bags evident under his eyes.
"I do. I brought them in," said Seungmin. "Why?"
"Because it's my fault Lee Know ended up at that institute in the first place."

On the car ride home from the fair, Bonita stayed seated beside Bang Chan in the back of the car while I.N stayed in the passenger seat as Felix drove. I.N noticed that Felix kept stealing glances at the two of them in the back seat, especially more so when Bonita fell asleep with her head on one of Bang Chan's shoulder and Bang Chan fell asleep with his head on top of hers.
"Stop staring at them," whispered I.N.
"Why? It's not like either of them can tell right now," whispered back Felix, flicking his gaze from the rearview mirror to the road again. "Is this odd for you?"
"Odd for me?" asked I.N, surprised by the sudden odd question.
"Yeah. You know. Odd that your stepbrother not stepbrother but fictional character is falling in love."
"I mean, I guess so, but you know how much I missed Chris," said I.N as he folded his hands into his lap. "I mourned him every day, heck...if it wasn't for Bang Chan finding me when he did, I might have been dead now. Yes, it's odd, but in a way, this is really a blessing."
"Look, I knew you were depressed when Chris died, but I didn't know you had suicidal thoughts," said Felix, slipping a hand off the steering wheel to place over the top of I.N's, "I know you miss him. I do too. I miss him every day, but we have each other...yeah? No matter what happens, we are stuck together. So with that in mind, how about we keep each other afloat in our seas of darkness?"
"Seas of darkness?" asked I.N finally lifting his head to look over at Felix who was fixated on the road with a small smirk on his face. "I thought I was the writer out of the two of us."
A chirp from the back seat shattered the moment that Felix and I.N were having. It sounded like someone's cell phone. They stayed silent for a moment as another chirp echoed out followed by another and yet another in quick succession. I.N hated to wake Bonita, but with the way her phone kept going off, he figured it must be urgent.
Swiveling in his seat, he reached a hand behind him to gently shake Bonita's knee.
"Hey Bonita. Your phone keeps going off," said I.N, watching as her eyes slowly opened.
When she realized the position she was in, she quickly shifted to sit up. Bang Chan shifted away from her as he woke up himself, stretching a bit as Bonita took her phone out of her pocket. No sooner had she checked her messages than her heart sank.
"Guys..." she asked, her eyes fixated on the messages before her. "Can you take me back to Seoul?"
