7. Akuma

Of course. Of-fucking-course. She should've known it was too good to last. She should have known that Hawkmoth would have eyes out, watching for any sign of Chat. She should have known that the bastard wouldn't have any regard for whether or not people were working. He never gave a damn before so she shouldn't have been as annoyed as she was, but that's what having a decade of silence does to someone.

Apparently everyone else had forgotten too, seeing as Paris was even more chaotic than it had been during all the other akuma attacks during her school days. Hell, even the victim had forgotten. It looked like all the years of calm had driven people to focus more on their jobs and school and less on their emotions, which was bad but also kind of a relief, causing the most anger Hawkmoth could feel to come from a stressed college student.

The villain's name was Cheater. Their goal? Find the test answers for their midterms next week.

It wasn't a very hard battle, but it did take longer than it would have ten years ago. Despite her constant patrol and practice, the lack of someone to actually fight against had thrown her out of practice. Luckily, Chat seemed to be doing a little better, but he was still lacking his previous skill. The villain seemed to give up part way through the battle and proceeded to halfheartedly throw attacks in their general direction.

While it was a stupid fight, a stupid villain, and had made her the most annoyed she had been in years, she couldn't deny that it was exhilarating. She had missed it. Of course, she didn't miss all the lives in jeopardy and the raging villains, but the rush of a fight and working side by side with Chat was something she didn't know she had actually missed until this moment.

In a ridiculously stupid way, she supposed she had Hawkmoth to thank for that revelation. The thought made her cringe and her throw made a weird arc before bursting into ladybugs and fixing all the damage that had been done. She felt heat rising to her cheeks when Chat gave her a side glance and a raised eyebrow, but she just scowled and waved it off.

Unfortunately, that just egged him on even more and she spent the rest of the time being pestered and teased by Chat about how she'd forgotten too much and how she was terribly out of practice.

It wouldn't have been so annoying if it weren't so true.
