Chapter 29

"All you have to do is let me take your life and I won't have her kill herself. Simple, is it not? I figured even someone like you could understand it that way," Nikolai sneered towards Joshua who was frozen like a deer caught in the headlights. He was silent and my hands moved closer to my throat as Nikolai raised his hand towards me.

"Joshua," I said, making his attention turn towards me, "Don't do it. No matter what happens, I know that you'll make the right decision. Nikolai just wants your power-" Tears formed at the corners of my eyes as I felt my hands close around my throat. It burned as my hand began to lace itself with the imagination fed by Nikolai. "-and I don't want you to die! He'll just take my power and kill me once you're dead!" Joshua's hands balled into fists as his arm holding his phone began to shake. Shakily, I saw him flip his phone open and he held his hand out towards me and I felt my entire body freeze in place as Joshua ran forward, clicking a button on his phone as a beam of light struck where Nikolai once was. He jumped back and blood dripped down his chin.

"Fine! Have it your way!" Nikolai spat and I felt what Joshua had cast on me break and the invisible chains holding me back snapped as my hands raised towards Joshua who took a step back. His face was in a state of shock as light gathered in my hand, forming a ball of light. Despite all of my struggling, I released it towards Joshua who barely dodged it in time. My body was numb and didn't respond to anything I told it. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw imagination be pulled in by Nikolai whose chest began to glow as his breathing settled down from its raggedness.

"J-Joshua, it's OK if you hurt me... I know that you don't mean to, but if you don't do something then I'll end up harming you and I won't be able to live with myself if I do...," I said, though my voice was just barely over a whisper. A tear slipped out of my left eye as I felt my body lurch forward as I flew towards Joshua who levitated in the air, and quickly backed down as I flew towards him, my arm outstretched as if I was going to deliver a fatal blow to his head. Joshua stumbled backwards and ran around the room to avoid the bolts of light that flew towards him as my imagination was unwillingly being used against him. As I flew around a feather flew from my wing at unbelievable speed towards Joshua, who managed to barely stop it mid-flight as it dropped harmlessly to the ground, lightly floating and taking its time.

As I zoomed at Joshua again, he opened his mouth to speak, grimacing slightly as a bolt of darkness hit his shoulder, slicing open the fabric as Joshua held it, his hand stained red., as his shoulder sagged. The cut was deep.

"(Y/n)...," Joshua whispered, casting his face downward. "I can't... Even if it would kill me, I just... I can't bring myself to hurt you. Someone's on their way though," Joshua said as he glanced around the room, from Nikolai and then back to me. My expression twisted into one of sadness as it felt like a needle was being stabbed into my chest. Nikolai lunged at Joshua with newfound strength and I watched in horror as my body acted on its own, lunging at Joshua as well as I prepared an attack in my hands. Joshua raised his hands to attempt to reflect at least one of us when the skull symbol on the player pin appeared in front of Joshua, blocking off Nikolai as a massive burst of light made him fly backwards, creating a massive crater in the wall where he was thrown back. He groaned and held his head, feeling the blood that trickled down it. It only blocked him though and I flew towards Joshua knocking him off of his feet as I threw him into the wall. Joshua looked up at me as my hands wrapped themselves around his throat. His phone was lying nearby, a couple feet away as it skidded across the ground. He reached for it and found it useless as it was too far away. Nikolai walked over and kicked it towards the wall, even further away as Joshua's eyes widened.

Joshua brought his hands up to mine as they began to close around his throat. Horror contorted my face as my eyes grew wide. I struggled against Nikolai's grasp on me and felt unsuccessful.

"Joshua! I-I'm so sorry!" I shouted. I concentrated on my hands and heard Joshua make some kind of gagging noise from the lack of oxygen as his eyes were shut tight. His grip began to loosen as his body relaxed slightly. My right hand stopped for a moment from my fighting against it. I heard Nikolai groan before the pressure on me increased and I let out a small groan at the pain in my head before tightening my grip around Joshua's throat. Before Joshua passed out or died to my hand, a pair of arms picked me off of Joshua and spun me around as I my body was embraced tightly, my arms tight against my body from the person's hold on me.

"What are you doing?!" Mr. Hanekoma held his arms tightly around me to keep me contained from hurting Joshua and I glanced over to see Joshua doubled over, gasping for breath. Tears slipped out of my eyes and I knew Mr. Hanekoma couldn't believe what he saw me do either. I'm so sorry Joshua... I know you'll probably hate me after this...

"S-Sigil. Nikolai c-controlling me," I gasped out. My hand began to glow and Mr. Hanekoma's eyes widened as his finger began to draw some kind of sigil on my back and he jumped backwards with me, avoiding an attack from Nikolai as I raised my hand to harm Mr. Hanekoma. Just as I was about to release a bolt of light into his torso, I gasped as I was nearly thrown off balance as pins and needles ran up my legs and I fell to my knees as Mr. Hanekoma knelt down next to me, rubbing his hand in a circle on my back, as I felt fatigued at the sigil and hold Nikolai had over me crumbling apart and finally breaking apart.

"I know you probably didn't mean it. Don't sweat it. We'll clear everything up after this is over," he said, as he held his hand up as he blocked off rays of darkness that emitted off of Nikolai, who screeched loudly.

"WHo eRaSeD mY SiGiLs?!"

Mr. Hanekoma glanced upward at Nikolai, as the darkness swirled around him. The air became more extreme as shadows spilled towards him from the walls. Mr. Hanekoma had something to do with the sigils disappearing, and that must've been why he took awhile getting here. As a Producer and as Joshua's friend, he tries to protect him as much as he can, and his love for Shubuya is as strong too. He wasn't about to let it fall into Nikolai's hands.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean too...," I said as I felt as if I betrayed Joshua, glancing downwards. Mr. Hanekoma stood up and ran forward to fend off Nikolai and I felt a body crouch down nearby and from the casual button down shirt, I knew it was Joshua. He placed a hand on the side of my face as he wiped away and stray tears and forced me to look up at him as more tears pooled in my eyes. "I-I'm sorry Joshua!" There was another explosion as Mr. Hanekoma continued to attack Nikolai, as the fight grew more intense.

He leaned into my ear, his warm breath tickling my ear. "Dear, you didn't do anything. There's nothing to be sorry for. Don't apologize, it was Nikolai's doing after all. It pains me to see you in a state like this," Joshua whispered. My heart beat wildly as it felt as it it would burst out of my chest at any moment. I was about to respond spouting more apologies, until an arm slipped around my waist as he leaned in and planted his soft lips on mine. I was shocked for a minute, but felt sparks fly between us nonetheless as Joshua's hand moved towards the back of my head as he played with my hair. His eyes were closed as I felt my own lips move in sync with his as his hair fell onto my face. He pulled away after a minute as he panted slightly and stood up pulling me up with him abruptly.

"We need to finish this," Joshua said, acting as if nothing just happened. I nodded, knowing that if I tried to speak, my words would come out jumbled and incoherent as my face burned a bright shade of red. I noticed Joshua lean down and pick up his fallen phone as he dusted the dirt and debris off of it. I noticed Mr. Hanekoma step to the side as I rushed at Nikolai. He looked over and his eyes widened at me as I slammed him into the wall, my arm up against his neck as I pushed against it, blocking off the airflow through his trachea.

"How dare you force me to hurt him," I spat, venom laced in my voice as my wings flapped angrily against my back. "I will make sure that you get a punishment fit for your crimes." I tried to control my anger by taking in a deep breath and I heard Joshua shout out to me as I looked and saw Nikolai's fist flying towards my fist. I was thrown back a step as my grip on Nikolai loosened, allowing him to throw me off. I flapped my wings to avoid hitting the wall and as Nikolai was about to take a step towards me, I noticed Mr. Hanekoma holding Joshua off to the side as the latter rolled his eyes and pressed a button on his phone, causing a beam of light to strike where Nikolai was. Mr. Hanekoma held his arm in front Joshua then, whispering something to him. Nikolai jumped to the side, feathers falling off of his wings and crumbling to the ground.

Darkness spread out from around him as I held up my hands, summoning the imagination from in me to create a shield, as Mr. Hanekoma had already blocked the attack from hitting him or Joshua. Nikolai growled and the rocks from around the room lifted from the ground as they flew towards us all at unimaginable speeds. Quite a few rocks flew towards me and I held out my hand, letting light fly towards each one. Only one rock slipped past and grazed my cheek, leaving a thin cut.

Suddenly, spears of light struck Nikolai from all sides, rendering him unmovable as he shouted out in pain as the spears molded around him, converting to a rope that snugly wrapped around Nikolai as a sigil appeared in front. I recognized it instantly as the Imagination-Reversal Sigil. I looked around and saw a few Angels on both sides of him as one decided to knock Nikolai into the ground, sending up a puff of smoke.

Neku and the others appeared from one end of the hallway, looking between everyone carefully before settling their eyes on Nikolai. He looked upward glaring at me, Joshua, and Mr. Hanekoma.

"I'll kill you all! This won't be the last time you'll see me! I'll kill you all just like I killed your parents!" Nikolai directed the last part towards me and I flinched at the harsh words.

"The only place we'll be seeing you again is the Judgement Room in the Higher Plane," Joshua said, twirling a strand of his hair with his right hand as his lips curled up into his signature smirk. Neku's eyes widened at the number of Angels in the room, and as one of them turned towards me, I stood up straighter. The pain in my leg was gradually growing worse as I felt like the bone had snapped, or was at least sprained. I leaned onto my other foot.

"(Y/n) (L/n), you will be receiving a letter from the Archangels about the trial taking place in a week's time. You are to attend as a victim to Nikolai's actions and the Composer and Producer of Shibuya are also to attend. Sanae Hanekoma, I trust that you will take care of the mess from here, as we take the now branded Fallen, into the Higher Plane," the Angel said, his uniform gleaming as he showed authority. Both of us nodded as all the Angels disappeared, leaving only the mess of the battle, Mr. Hanekoma, Joshua, Neku and his friends, and myself in the room.

"What the hell just happened?!" Neku asked, his eyes glancing over us all one last time. "And who will answer my question?! What the hell is a Producer and why did they call Mr. Hanekoma one?!"

"Calm down Neku," Joshua said, raising a hand in the air to brush off Neku's questions. "One question at a time." His arm hung limply at his side as he walked over to me, stepping over a bicycle.

"Alright 'Phones. I think you and the others deserve some answers," Mr. Hanekoma said.
