Secret Keepers
Noah, Stiles, and Isaac stood in the Sheriffs office, their eyes trained on the bulletin board where Tracy, Lucas, and Will's pictures all stared back at them.
Noah had originally asked for Isaac, Stephanie and James to come, but Stephanie and Isaac knew that whatever the Sheriff wanted to talk about involved Will and there was one small problem.
Stephanie's parents don't know about Will yet.
Forgetting the dates, Stephanie realized that the reason they weren't home when she got back wasn't because they were working, but because it was their anniversary. Stephanie didn't want to ruin it for them by telling them their son died on their anniversary so she was just going to wait.
"Chimeras. Three dead Chimeras." Noah breathed out. Isaac and Stiles watched Will's photo carefully, neither of them really thinking it was true.
"And eight new ones. 11 in all." Stiles said, but Noah quickly shook his head, grabbing another photo and push pin from his desk. "I'm thinking maybe 12." Noah said, adding a photo of Donovan onto the wall of chimeras.
Isaac heard Stiles' heart beat quicken and when he turned to look at him, Stiles was now a couple of feet behind him. Isaac's brows furrowed, but he shook it off and turned back to Noah.
"Our station tech guys confirmed something for me... They said, both the holding cell lock and cameras could have malfunctioned because of something electromagnetic." Noah said, his eyes on Donovan's photo before he turned around to Isaac and Stiles. "You said that, uh, these guys..."
"Dread Doctors." Isaac said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a tin of icebreakers. Noah's face fell at Isaac's words, tilting his head. "Are we really calling them that?" He asked Isaac, who just shrugged, popping an icebreaker in his mouth. "You think they broke Donovan out?" He asked and Noah shrugged at Isaac.
"It's how they got into Eichen, isn't it?" He asked and Isaac pursed his lips. He did have a point.
Noah turned back to the pin board, his eyes falling on Donovan's photo again. "Donovan's a Chimera." Noah breathed out. Isaac nodded as he walked closer to the Sheriff, still behind him. "Yeah. But..." "Is he a failure like Lucas, Tracy, and Will?" Noah said, finishing Isaac's question. Isaac huffed, his eyebrow cocking up slightly.
"If he is, he's probably dead." Isaac muttered, his eyes trained on the floor as he pulled at his hair on the back of his head. Noah didn't turn to Isaac, his eyes glued onto Donovans photo. "Not until I've seen a body." Noah said.
"We never found a body for Will." Isaac snapped, aggravated at the fact that no one was paying much attention to the fact that Will is dead. The two Stilinski's froze at his words. Noah turned around to give Isaac a look but his eyes fell right past her and landed on Stiles, who was biting his thumb nail as he stared at the ground.
"You're uncharacteristically quiet." Noah said, making Isaac turn around to look at him. Isaac sighed at the look on Stiles's face. He knew Will's death has been affecting him. He knew he was holding it in.
Isaac took small steps towards Stiles, giving him a sympathetic look, starting to feel bad for his harsh comment. "Hey, man, maybe we should go. You shouldn't be hearing all of this about Will." Isaac said and suddenly, Stiles snapped his head up. He startled Isaac, especially since he was giving him wide eyes. Stiles shook his head, looking back and forth between Isaac and his dad.
"No... Sorry, I'm, uh... I'm just trying to think about it. Uh... These are all teenagers, right? So, now shouldn't we be trying to figure out why these teenagers? If the Dread Doctors, if they went through all that... Burying them..." Stiles stopped. He blinked a couple times and gulped before continuing. "Killing them." Stiles stopped again, thinking about what Stephanie saw. How she saw Will die.
Because of him.
Because he didn't listen to Will when he answered the phone.
"They couldn't have been chosen at random." Isaac said, catching onto what Stiles was insinuating. Stiles nodded, glad Isaac caught on. He didn't know if he could continue.
Isaac turned to Noah, nodding his head. "They had to have something in common. Something that made them right for this experiment." He said before his eyes flickered back to Stiles, part of him terrified to. "Something that made them special."
...
Much to Scott's surprise, Stephanie and Isaac were able to get onto the schools campus. When Finstock heard about Isaac's return to Beacon Hills, he showed up to Stephanie's house, begging he come to school to help him with his current "trash" team as he called it. He even said that Stephanie could come since she knew a thing or two about lacrosse.
It was lunch when Scott, Theo, Stephanie, and Isaac looked over the campus from the second floor balcony. "So, basically, we're looking for abnormal behavior?" Theo asked. Since he was leaning on the railing, he looked up at Scott. Stephanie looked down at Theo and copied his actions so they were at eye level.
"Anyone acting a little off or a little weird." Scott said and both Theo and Stephanie scoffed. "That's your plan? Really?" Stephanie asked, looking down at the kids below them as Scott whipped his head to them with an offended look.
Theo nodded in agreement with Stephanie. She looking up at Scott, squinting since the sun was right behind him. "Yeah, I mean... Isn't everyone a little weird in high school?" She asked, her and Theo pushing themselves off the railing as the four of them started to walk towards the stairs to get to ground level.
Scott sighed as he thought about it before he turned to Stephanie from past Theo. "Yeah, good point." He said as he reached into his backpack and pulled out the Dread Doctor book. Theo's eyes drifted down to the book in Scott's hands before he looked back up at him. "You remember Tracy went on a killing spree after reading that?"
An amused grin took over Isaac's face as she turned to look at Theo from over Stephanie. "You think it's a bad idea?" Isaac asked and Theo raised his brows and his hands in defense. "I think Malia almost getting run down by a car could've been bad. That's why you guys haven't finished it, right?"
When none of them answered, Theo let out an annoyed groan. He rolled his eyes ad turned to Scott to glare at him. "Scott, I came here hoping to find a pack. I wasn't planning on watching one fall apart." Theo said and almost instantly, Isaac stepped forward in front of Theo. He stuck his hand out, pushing it up against Theo's chest to stop him as Stephanie watched Theo in shock at his words.
Once Theo was stopped, Isaac used his hand that wasn't up against Theo to point at him. "Hey." He snapped, pushing Theo back a couple of steps and startling him for a moment. "You have a problem with all this, you can go. Will is..."
Isaacs eyes flickered to Stephanie and he felt the anger he felt towards Theo start to wash away. He was worried about her and he almost scared to say his next set of words, worried that they'd hurt her. But when he turned back to Theo, all that anger that had washed away seeped right back into his body. "Will is dead and we're trying to figure out what the hell killed him and how to stop them. If this book is all we've got, then we're using the book. It's your decision to stay or not."
Theo gulped, looking back and forth between the three teens in front of him before he nodded. "Then I'll read it too." Theo said. Isaac watched Theo for a second, analyzing him. He slowly dropped his hand from Theo's chest and nodded. "Good. Good." Isaac muttered, walking away from the three others and back to the lacrosse field to help Coach.
Scott snickered at the scared look on Theo's face and Isaac's "calm" state. He leaned towards Stephanie's ear. "He definitely learned that from Derek." Scott whispered and Stephanie chuckled, nodding her head in amusement at her boyfriend.
...
After school, the whole pack minus Liam stood around Scott's living room, five books on the Dread Doctors sitting on the coffee table surrounding them.
"My mom's book club usually has more wine." Lydia groaned out, not wanting to read the book. Stephanie snickered, turning to look down at Lydia with a smirk. "You got some?" She asked, earning an amused eye roll from the girl.
"They also probably didn't read books that cause violent hallucinations." Stiles snapped back and Scott quickly turned to him. "That's why Steph and Isaac are here." Scott reassured, turning his head to the couple and smiling. "Since they just got here, so they haven't interacted with the Dread Doctors yet."
"So none of us go running into traffic." Malia said, and Theo eyed her. "Or worse..."
Lydia hummed, grabbing her copy of the book. She looked it the printed out cover and smirked. "Maybe I should have my mother read it. She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone."
"Yeah, if it works." Stephanie muttered. She didn't really understand how the book would help unlock memories. In all honesty, nothing about the Dread Doctors made sense to her, but she's fought pretty confusing creatures so she shouldn't have been too surprised.
"It has to." Lydia said. Her voice was quiet and filled with worry, almost as if she were hiding something. Stephanie immediately caught Lydia's tone. She turned to her, her face softened. "What's that mean?" She asked. Lydia gnawed at her lip and sighed. She felt all of the packs eyes on her, but kept her own on Stephanie. "I think I saw them during my surgery. When I look at the cover of the book... It's almost like..." Lydia's words slowed, struggling to come up with an explanation.
"A memory trying to surface." Theo jumped in and Lydia slowly turned to him, her eyes wide. She opened and closed her mouth, shock that he knew what she meant before she nodded. "Yeah."
...
The pack had been reading the book for hours. It was dark out now.
Stephanie was asleep on the end of the couch she, Scott, and Kira were all sitting on. Her head was rested on Scott's shoulder, small snores escaping her lips, keeping Scott awake.
Isaac was in the kitchen, making cups of coffee for everyone reading. Stiles came in a couple minutes after him, needing to give his eyes a break from all the words.
Stiles leaned up against the counter Isaac was making coffee on and sighed. The two of them have gotten a lot better at not bickering since the news of Will got out.
Stiles suddenly winced in pain, catching Isaac's attention. Isaac watched as Stiles reached back and grabbed his shoulder in pain. Isaac's brows furrowed, smelling the blood coming from him. "What did you do to your shoulder?"
Stiles tensed, his hands almost instantly dropping from his shoulder. He squinted at Isaac as he pushed himself off the counter. "What are you talking about?" Stiles asked and Isaac nodded his head to Stiles's shoulder.
"I can smell the blood. What happened?" Isaac asked, turning back to the counter. He poured a couple of the coffees as Stiles sighed, knowing he got caught. Trying to think of something to say, Stiles cleared his throat. "Jeep died on me again. I went to check the engine, the hood fell on it."
Isaac turned back to Stiles, not believing him just from his tone of voice. When their eyes locked, Isaac her his heart rate start to pick up. Stiles was lying. They both knew that the other knew that, but said nothing.
...
Stephanie and Isaac were at the hospital helping Melissa calm people down in the waiting room after the hospital grew crowded from a pile up on the road since Sabrina wasn't there to help. Stephanie still hadn't gotten the chance to tell her parents about Will yet. It's been three days.
Stephanie was helping a woman calm down at one of the seats when Scott, Malia, and Theo barreled into the hospital. Stephanie muttered a small apology to the woman, telling her she'd be right back before she walked up to the three.
"What are you guys doing here?" She asked, catching Isaac's at from the front desk.
"You guys try to find Stiles. I'm gonna find my mom." Scott said to Malia and Theo before he turned back to Stephanie and Isaac. Stephanie knew how was about to ask where his mom was and answered his question before he could ask. "Last I heard, she was upstairs. Fifth floor, but that was hours ago."
"Doesn't hurt to check." Scott shrugged out. As he ran off to the elevator, Stephanie turned to Malia and Theo. "We'll go with you, guys." She said, gesturing to her and Isaac and the two nodded.
Stephanie let Isaac, Theo, and Malia all work their enhanced sense of smell magic to track Stiles's scent. As they lead Stephanie to where she was guessing the elevators, they ran into Melissa.
Stephanie's eyes widened at the woman in front of her. She didn't give the woman time to greet the kids hello before she grabbed her arm and started to lead her to the elevators. "Melissa, we have to go. Scott's looking for you."
Melissa immediately caught onto Stephanie urgency and started to speed up with the girl, Malia right behind them. "Where is he?" She asked as Stephanie pressed the button for the elevator.
"Fifth floor." Stephanie breathed out. The elevator doors opened and the three girl quickly piled in, leaving Isaac and Theo to find Stlies.
When the elevator doors opened to the fifth floor, Stephanie's heart stopped at the sight of one of the Dread Doctors down the hall, holding Scott by the neck, pinning him against the wall.
Not only was this the first time she'd seen the Dread Doctors in person, but she's seen the Dread Doctor attacking Scott before.
It was the one that killed Will.
Malia was the first to run over to the Dread Doctor. When the Dread Doctor saw Malia coming, he dropped Scott and backed up.
Melissa used this time to run up to Scott and help him back into the elevator.
Stephanie watched as Malia got a few good hits on Dread Doctor, but when she kicked the Dread Doctor in the face, she angered him. The Dread Doctor barely raised his hand and swung it across her face, knocking her to the ground.
Stephanie suddenly saw red or... purple in her case. The irises of her eyes immediately turning purple as angry bubbled up inside of her.
Stephanie ran at the Dread Doctor, using her powers to push Malia into the elevator with Melissa and Scott. She threw her other arm back, purple starting to grow around it and once she'd got in arms reach of the Dread Doctor, she brought her arm forward, punching him in the gut.
The Dread Doctor stumbled back a couple of feet, but was overall hardly effected by Stephanie's powers. The Dread Doctor tilted its head at Stephanie. "Kanay." They spoke.
A chill went down Stephanie's spine at the sound of the Doctors voice. Her mind started to soon as she thought about Will's death. The Dread Doctor reached it's hand out to grab Stephanie's head, Stephanie yelled as she rose her own hand, portions engulfing the Doctors hand, stopping him. The Dread Doctor looked at his hand and tried to move it again, but Stephanie kept it frozen in place.
Slowly, Stephanie started to wrapped her powers around the entire Dread Doctor. Once the masked man was covered head to toe in purple, Stephanie used her powers to lift them into the air.
All that was going through Stephanie's head was what happened to Will.
How the Dread Doctors haunted him.
How they tortured him.
How the Dread Doctor in her grasp broke Will's leg.
How they killed him.
Stephanie let out a loud sob as the images of Will continued to play in her mind, almost like a viewfinder; the same images over and over again. She slowly started to bringing her two outstretched hands she had held out to hold the Dread Doctor in her powers together, crushing the Dread Doctor.
She wanted him dead.
She wanted all three of them dead.
She wanted them to pay.
The metal of the Dread Doctors suit started to crack and break under Stephanie's powers, but the girl continued to crush him and continue to sob.
"Stephanie, come on! Run!"
Stephanie looked back to the elevator that Scott, Malia, and Melissa were all laying in when she heard Melissa scream for her. Stephanie's eyes were bright purple as her chest heaved up and down. Scott looked at her with wide eyes, sitting himself up in shock. "Oh my God."
Stephanie turned back to the Dread Doctor she had held in her powers. As her anger grew, her eyes got brighter. She let out one final scream as she pushed her hands out, the Dread Doctor flying back and down the hospital hallway.
As soon as he collapsed, Stephanie turned and ran towards the elevator. She turned around and saw not only the Dread Doctor she had just thrown, now standing as if nothing had happened, but another one right beside him.
Stephanie watched as the one she recognized from her vision reach into their pocket and pull out the string they had used to stop Will from running. Stephanie's heart sank, her eyes on the string as it flew threw the air. It was higher than it was for Will; this string was aiming for her neck while Will's aimed for his leg.
Stephanie was a couple feet away from the elevator when the string was inches away from her neck. Just before it could wrap itself around her, she dropped to the floor, sliding the rest of the way into the elevator.
The doors started to close as soon as she was inside. The four watched the Dread Doctors until they the doors had closed on them. Stephanie suddenly felt all of her energy leave her body, running on adrenaline that whole time.
She fell back into Malia's arms tiredly and cried as Scott shook his head. "We never should have read that book."
...
Isaac and Theo followed Stiles's scent to the roof. When they reached the door, Isaac practically threw the door off of its hinges from how aggressive he opened it. They saw a boy cornering Stiles, attacking him right after left.
Isaac immediately ran for the boy, grabbing his arm before he could claw at Stiles again. While he did that, Theo ran up after him and kicked the boy in the chest, sending him flying back.
Theo ran after the boy and got to him as soon as he was standing again. Theo raised his claws to attack, but the boy clawed across the face before he could. Theo fell to the ground and Isaac roared, catching the boy's attention.
The boy smirked before running up to Isaac, claws first. Isaac copied his actions and at the same time, the two jumped into action, raising their claws to attack each other.
Because Isaac's arms were longer and he was bigger than the other boy, Isaac was able to grab onto his arm before he could be touched. Isaac pulled his, making their impact to the ground come faster than expected.
Isaac planted his feet when he hit the ground and twisted the boys arm around behind his back so he couldn't move. Isaac turned to Theo, who was starting to get up and gestured his head to the boy he was holding onto, silently asking Theo for some help. When Theo ran over, Isaac was expecting him to knock the boy out by throwing him or hitting him.
Instead Theo reached for the boys neck and ripped out his throat.
Isaac dropped the boys body in shock, his werewolf traits slowly starting to disappear back into his human form. Isaac let out a breath of air, blinking a couple of times in shocks
Theo let out a shaky breath as he looked at the boy on the floor, now dead. He suddenly looked up at Isaac and Stiles, panicked. "Isaac... Stiles... You can't say anything." Theo said, his voice almost sounding like a beg.
Isaac quickly nodded his head, silently telling him he wouldn't tell. Isaac knew that Theo wasn't the first person the pack befriended or even the first person in the pack that's killed people.
Theo sent a grateful look to Isaac before he turned to Stiles. "Stiles, please, don't say anything." Theo begged and Stiles squinted at him, almost daring him. "Why not?" Stiles asked. Theo let out a shaky breath before he completely calmed down as if the panic was all an act.
"Because I never said anything about Donovan."
Isaac's brows furrowed as Stiles's raised. Theo's eyes drifted to Isaac and Isaac could've sworn a smirk etched its way on to Theo's face, but it disappeared just as fast as it came. Theo turned back to Stiles and sighed. "Or Will."
Stiles immediately started to tear up at Theo's words and Isaac straightened, especially when he heard how fast Stiles' heart started to beat. "What?" Isaac asked Theo. The boy turned to Isaac and shrugged. "It's not my place to say." Theo breathed out.
Isaac turned back to Stiles, his eyebrows furrowing but his eyes softening, tears threatening to start to pool in his eyes. "Stiles?" Isaac asked, his voice a little shaky.
Stiles didn't respond, his eyes finally leaving Theo's to Isaac's. Stiles had tears already falling down his face, his jaw slacked as he looked at Isaac with an almost guilty look. His heart beat and his rapid breathing was all Isaac could hear, even if he didn't use his enhanced hearing.
"Stiles, what is he talking about?"
