Notebook
Miguel Gomez, a Mexican-American student at James King High, is looking to have a new life after his family moved from Detroit to Los Angeles.
Soon after he becomes a new student, his class and new friends get introduced to a Japanese exchange student named Mika Suzuki, who, little did everyone know, is deaf.
After seeing her get bullied because of her disability, Miguel picks up the courage to talk to her by taking it easy and writing in her notebook so they could communicate, apologizing for on behalf of them for their antics.
Over time, since their first conversation, Mika starts to feel really comfortable by Miguel's kindness and eventually falls in love with him, but how does he react to a Japanese girl, who is deaf and can barely speak English?
So, last night, the lady and I watched a movie called "A Silent Voice" and I very much relate to this, because I'm hard of hearing and I had to learn sign language at a very early age.
Throughout this movie, I felt like crying because here's this girl named Shoko Nishimiya, who got bullied just because she was deaf. I was bullied myself for being hard of hearing so I know what Shoko's going through.
In the first few minutes, when it had her trying to be friends with her former bully and him just outright refusing and then making fun of her made me want to go rogue on his ass. Not to mention he put his hands on her, not raping her but just trying to push her down when she fought back.
I felt horrible, like, whenever she cried, I wanted to give her a shoulder to cry on.
I thought I might do a story that's similar but it's a deaf foreign exchange student from Japan. The reason is that I actually met someone who was an exchange student back in high school, from JAPAN no less, and his English was actually so good that he had studied it so much that it wasn't perfect, but it was just enough for me to understand.
So yeah, if you ever want to watch "A Silent Voice", I personally recommend you go on Netflix to watch it, to get an idea of what story I'm gonna be doing in the future.
Here's the trailer for the movie, but be sure to put on subtitles to know what they're saying, as well as trying to get an idea of what the story is about...
