"Thank you for coming to lunch."

"The pleasure is all mine." I give the king a small bow of my head. He leaves his seat at the head of the long table where over thirty vampires who I assume are family members to help pull my chair back.

I sit down and smile at him as Sebastian takes a seat beside me, "Thank you."

"Grand father, you don't need to that." A man who looks like a spitting image of Edna scoffs.

The king, frowns at him and he shuts up, "She's our esteemed guest and she will be treated accordingly regardless of her kind."

The man glares at me and I try not to squirm in my position from the stares of all the vampires in the room. I look at the king who is smiling and conversing with Edna. For a man over 300 years old, he doesn't look old; infact, he looks like he would pass for a man in his early fifties.

He notices me staring and looks at me, "I hope your trip around our territory went well?"

"Your kingdom is beautiful your majesty." I reply. He beams at my answer and makes a signal with his fingers. Immediately, servants start serving food onto my plate. I look around where everyone's meal is different from mine and Sebastian.

The king notices the look of uncertainty on my face, "Are you dissatisfied? We made sure to prepare delicacies from werewolf territory incase you were uncomfortable."

So that's what it is. I was worried, they were planning something.

"We even made sure to research on ingredients that are helpful for a pregnant she-wolf." Edna adds.

"Isn't she a bit ungrateful after we went through so much efforts to make her comfortable." Another woman who looked nothing like Edna or the man from earlier, sneered.

"Enough Camilla." The king's booming voice resonates throughout the whole room and I feel shivers down my spine, "I will not hesitate to punish anyone who speaks out of line towards my guests."

Everyone one in the room goes silent but I can feel their burning hate for me through their stares. Edna offers me an apologetic smile while Sebastian growls back at them.

I touch Sebastian's hand under the table to calm him down and keep him in line, "It's okay your majesty, we are sworn enemies after all. I was expecting a bit of hostility. I'm just here to offer my assistance."

"You're my guest and any disrespect to you, is a direct insult to me," He says looking at me. "Which will not be taken lightly." He continues and turns his gaze to the rest of the people sitting at the table challenging them but they don't rise up to the challenge.

Not wanting to argue with the king, I just give him a small bow of my head, "Thank you."

The rest of lunch goes by smoothly with Edna and the king engaging Sebastian and I in conversation while the air remained tense. Edna and Sebastian escorted me back to my room to get the herbs and remaining equipments I wanted to use for the ritual.

They lead me to a beautiful large room filled with light. As large as the room was, the only furnitures in the room were a desk, an armchair and a bed.

I step closer to the bed and look down at a little girl laying in the middle. She didn't look older than four years old. She looked like Edna with her high cheekbones and her black hair fanned our around her.

Her lips and complexion were paler than normal, especially for a vampire, most probably because of the deep sleep that she had fallen into for the past three months.

"Do you think that you can help my daughter." Edna asks as she sits on the edge caressing her daughters hand.

I look at her daughter closely, there's something wrong but I don't say anything; I don't want to alarm her and make her loose hope before I've started.

I smile at her, "I'll try my best to help your daughter."

The king and Edna watch me as I lay out the herbs and special moon water before mixing everything together. There were no information on any kind of deep sleep in the books I managed to bring but there was a potion I learnt to allow the user to enter the dreams of another.

With the assistance of Edna, I have the little girl swallow some of the potion with the assistance of her mother gently tubbing her throat to stimulate movement. I drink the rest and sit in the armchair beside her bed and take hold of her arm.

"I don't know how long this will take but I promise to do my best."

"Thank you Luna odetta" The king says and I lean my head back. It takes some time before I'm able to fall asleep.

When I awake, it's dark and I get the feeling that something is terrible wrong. This seems like one of the dreams I usually have but something is different here, it feels kind of—dead.

I reach out blindly and touch nothing. I decide to slowly walk in whatever direction hoping to find something. I walk for a while before I feel an ominous presence and a feel a stab of fear.

"I didn't expect to see you here Odetta." A sinister chuckle accompanies his words.

"What the hell are you doing here you bastard?"

He tsks, "you should watch the way you speak to me"

"I don't have to watch anything, now tell me what the hell you did with this little girl."

"I don't have to mind the life of such a disgusting creature."

I feel bile rise up my throat, "Just because werewolves and vampires are natural enemies does not mean that you have can harm children."

"All you creatures are disgusting. Each and every dirty one of you." He sneers and I feel his breath on my neck. I turn around and reach my arms out to grab him but I grab nothing.

"These shadows are going to destroy you all and I'm going to stand on the dead bodies of all your loved ones."

"You sound crazy do you know that?", I continue, "you sound like a delusional psychopath."

I'm met with silence, "I don't care what your plans are but I'm going to put a stop to them. Now tell me how to fix this girl."

There's no reply and I think for a moment that he's gone. "I fear that you are too late." He finally says when I am about to give up.

I feel that my heart clench, this didn't sound good, "what to mean 'your fear that I am too late'?"

He laughs, "I mean to say that her soul is mine."

"Wh—"

"The girl is gone my lovely." It feels as if voice is caressing me and I shiver in disgust.

I shake my head, "no, she can't be.", I feel tears sliding down my cheeks, "fix this now. She's a child. She has done nothing wrong."

"I'm afraid I can't,", I can hear his smile, "Do you how filling her soul was?"

I don't answer and he continues, "The untouched soul from a descendant of the very first vampire. She was a bountiful meal enough for my shadows to devour and grow."

"Why the hell are you doing this? Please stop this. Take me and stop all this. Don't you need me?"

I finally feel his actual touch. He held my chin in hands and wiped my tears, "I need you but I need the untouched souls of these children unless my shadows can't get stronger. You have to wait your turn."

"You can't d—" I start to say but I feel the familiar pull. I try to hold on but I'm forcefully brought back to reality.

I feel the tears sliding down my cheek before I open my eyes. I squeeze the hand of the dead girl beside me and wonder how I'm going to break the news to her family who expect her to be okay.

"Odetta?" I hear Sebastian's concerned voice and I cry harder. After a while, I open my eyes and see the saddened face of Edna.

"I'm guessing that you have bad news." Her soft voice says.

"I'm so sorry." My voice breaks and I see tears sliding down her cheeks.

"My little girl is gone isn't she?"

My sobs answers her question and she looks down at her daughter. I couldn't bear to look at the king and see what kind of face that he is making.

She kisses her daughters forehead and takes my hand in mine, "I really did my best but there was nothing I could do. I promise you that I did all I could." I try to explain through my tears.

She presses my hand to her forehead, "I know you did everything you could. Thank you for your help."

I'm filled with nothing but regrets when I see her shoulder shake and hear her sob a little as she clutches my hand tighter.
