The Willow Tree

He watched with amazement as Y/N skipped around the wheat field, hair flowing in the wind. The setting sun cast its golden hue upon the endless prairie with only a singular willow tree standing tall and strong amongst the small wheat strands below it. Bill watched the long weightless leaves sway in the wind as Y/N climbed the tree. He chuckled as her small limbs tried to climb such a massive structure.

"Bill," she laughed, "wanna help?"

He chortled and walked over placing his strong hands on her sides, "Ready?"

"Yeah," she blushed as he maneuvered her upwards. She wrapped her arms around the nearest branch and pulled herself up now sitting elevated from the ground. "You coming?" She cheerfully questioned, Y/E/C eyes meeting his large green ones.

"Yes, I would have been up there by now if it weren't for you," he grinned.

"Oh wow," Y/N sarcastically laughed, "what a gentleman."

Bill playfully stuck his tongue out and pulled himself up to sit beside Y/N. With the sun making both their eyes light up in its gleam, Y/N looked to Bill and studied him longingly. He blushed a little and turned his attention to the setting sun. He took her hand in his and took in the moment, the breeze kissing his face. The two just sat there as the ticking seconds only brought the sun closer to the earth.

"Wanna climb higher? We can get a better view," Y/N exclaimed. Bill nodded and they made their way higher up into the massive Weeping Willow. When they found the perfect spot Bill grabbed her hand and pulled her into his chest. She let out a surprised gasp as her body was so close to him. Her eyes met his and a bashful smile appeared on her countenance. Bill carefully tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. She closed her eyes peacefully as he leaned in, his lips connecting to hers. Y/N slowly wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, hands running through his soft chestnut hair. This wasn't their first kiss by any means, but something about it felt as if there were more emotions than ever felt before.

Both slowly pulled away, foreheads resting against each other's. Breathing heavy, they just basked in one another's arms. She listened to his heartbeat against her ear as she watched the setting sun in Bill's comforting arms. He rest his chin on her head and in that moment he realized that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

Bill opened his eyes, a small tear falling down his cheek as the memory replayed in his mind. Years later the field still held its tranquility and pulchritude. Today the sun was setting as it did that day and the tree seemed to stand taller than he'd ever seen it. He watched the orange hue light up all in its path, and today it shone beautifully on the headstone underneath the tree. He bent down and set flowers in the small vase. Bill smiled, the tears flowing steadily now. There was so much more he'd wanted to do with her in this life but he relished what they'd shared. Their love was endless and strong, much like this tree before him. Their love was a Willow Tree, a never ending growth that would always stand strong, till its dying day.

A/N: sorry that was low key depressing but as usual, hope you found yourself enjoying it! Votes, comments, etc. are always appreciated! Love you guys! 🇸🇪
