Chapter 02

"I want to drown myself in the ocean of your eyes, I want to climb the very mountains of your smile, I want to burn myself in the lava of your love; but more than anything else, I want to reside in the home of your heart.

"Please don't leave me Dev, not while you're still alive."

Dev and Anjali were sitting by the street, under the orange haze of a streetlight, as the cars wheezed past them nonchalantly. People walked by with a curious look, some even smiled at the happy couple. None of it mattered though. For a couple of years now, it was just their other halves who made the world to them. Everything else, it was just there.

Dev looked at Anjali with a newfound love as she rest her head on his shoulder. His arm involuntarily wrapped her in his embrace while his head sought the cushion of her curls.

"Even I love you Anju. It won't be a hyperbole if I say I can't even live a second without you. But then, being with me means consequences. And I'm not entirely sure if I want you to face those consequences."

They saw a group of students get off the bus which stopped before them. A bunch of guys laughing and joking around. A boy busy playing with fingers of his girlfriend, while the girl giving him a light nudge, probably reminding him that they weren't in college anymore.

Anjali's eyes immediately found Dev's staring back at hers. They had a similar romance going about in their college days until they decided to give it a break and chase their careers.

"Don't talk like you're the only one in this profession okay?" Anjali reminded him of his words a minute ago, "Even I'm a news anchor. So I know what all consequences lay hidden in there."

"It's not the same," Dev argued, his voice a little louder. "You're a news anchor and I'm a crime reporter. All you have to do is read out the news that's given to you. Me, on the other hand, I'm out there unraveling those mysteries which you convey to the public. Every day I get some random tip of a hidden truth waiting to be unraveled and almost everytime that I chase a trail, there's someone waiting to threaten me at the other end."

Confirmed that nothing was going to change his mind, Anjali resigned herself to his warm embrace. She wanted to enjoy every second of it while she still can. She may not have said anything, yet, her silence meant a million things to him.

"It's not safe being with me..."

Planting a light kiss on her forehead, he assured her, contradicting his own mind. Maybe the heart wasn't so rational after all.

Minutes passed as they sat there watching the traffic tumble around.

The buzz of his phone broke the moment of their silence.

"Yeah?" he answered immediately.

Anjali watched as he stood up in one brisk motion, pulling her with him. He straightened his coat before securing the phone in his pocket.

"I need to go. Apparently, something's up at the phone booth on the outskirts of the town."

There was an excitement in his voice and a smirk on his face. Anjali knew this expression better than anyone else. He was right in the groove. And no words of her would be enough to stop him when he was in one. Not that she intended to stop him anyway.

She gave him a quick peck on the lips before walking away. Dev may believe whatever he wished, but she knew she'd meet him again tomorrow. Same place, same time and having the same conversation about their future. Till then, she just wished him luck for his yet another adventure.

The adventure at the phone booth.

Natasha quickly turned the little star orange before flipping over to the next chapter. Her heart almost cursed when she found there wasn't one published yet. Ahh... She groaned in agony. After six failed attempts, she had finally discovered a story she loved just to meet a dead end after the first chapter. She couldn't believe her luck at all.

With a hope to find out any clue of when the writer was going to update, she hopped on to the writer's profile.

MrAdventure

Read the username. Display picture was a boy on some hiking trip. Just a quote made up his bio.

"Romance may spice up your life a bit, but it's adventure which really fills you with an urge to live another day."

For Natasha, that first impression of anything mattered a lot. It would either make her believe or shatter her hopes. She knew it was wrong. Everyone needed a second chance. It was almost their right. But then, this was one of those traits of her which would be quite hard to flush out of the systems. And she had to admit, MrAdventure did leave a nice first impression.

The activity log beside the profile revealed the writer to be active enough. He was there, reading, voting, just not writing. Maybe he needs a push?

Before she could register the thought, her fingers found a way to his inbox. As the cursor blinked on, a sudden sense of fear hit her. This would be the first time she'd talk to anyone out here on wattpad. A series of what ifs? rocked her decision system as she tried to answer every question with utmost innocence. At last, the popular vote came out to be in favor of sending a message. Determined to keep it short and concise, she started to type...

Hi,
I really like your story The Adventures at the Phone Booth. Dev and Anjali are a really adorable couple. Is there any chance of getting another glimpse into their life soon?

The moment she hit send, she heard a faint sound outside her room. Someone is awake! Her quick response mechanism fired up instantly. Turning her phone's screen off, she quickly pulled a blanket over her head. There might be consequences living a life with Dev, but she was sure they'd be much worse if one of her parents found her awake at this time of the hour.

Good night Nat.

The reason wattpad in a unique place is the relation that is set up between a reader and writer.

You see, I've been waiting for years now for Sir R R Martin to publish the next part of The Song of Ice and Fire. But he seems to be taking his own sweet time. While I agree with the reasons behind the wait, there's still nothing I can actively do about it.

And that's where wattpad adds an extra dimension. It actually allows you to talk to the writers and even motivate them if they're down.

Yes, even I've had those moments when everything else seemed a better option than to write. And I've been lucky enough to have readers who've gone the lengths to motivate me.
I take this opportunity to thank all of them.

So do you remember the first person you sent a personal message to on wattpad?
What were your feelings then?

Is Natasha's fear justified in that respect?

And...

Are you excited to have another glimpse into Dev and Anjali's life too?
