48. 》One Last Shot, Pt. 1《
"I just spoke with Agent Hill. She says she's got him.", Rogers said to his teammates through his earpiece. The soldier could hear their soft sighs of relief and affirmation at his statement.
A few minutes later, Hill appeared with Fury limping by her side. "Hey.", Maria greeted, an arm around Fury's shoulder for support. Steve, Wanda and Vision shot them sympathetic gazes. "Director...", Wanda trailed off. Fury raised his hand.
"I don't need your pity party, folks. As you can see...", he began, trying to stand straight. "... I'm all good- ow!", he cut himself off as he felt a surge of pain on his neck.
"Hill, get him out of here. Stark will take care of the captives.", Steve demanded, giving her a slight nod. As Hill affirmed Roger's orders, proceeding to lead Nick away from the scene, she felt the director resisting, much to her dismay.
"What is it, Director?", Maria inquired, looking at him with concern.
Fury huffed. "I am not going to take orders from you, Rogers. That son of a b*tch has to pay for what he did to my men, what he did to me.", Nick uttered, staring at Steve dead in the eyes. The captain sighed.
"I'm sorry, Sir, but I'm afraid I can't allow you to stay any longer.", the soldier replied. With one nod to Maria, the latter quickly got out a chloroform-soaked cloth from her pocket and held it up to the director's nose. In a few seconds, Nick could feel himself dozing off.
"You... little..." Nick never got to finish his sentence as he drifted off to a calm slumber. "I have a jet waiting for him a few meters away from here. We'll take care of him, Cap.", Maria responded, holding Nick upright.
"I'll have the lieutenant assist you out.", Steve said. Upon hearing this, Rhodey retreated from Stark's group and off to Maria's position. "Let's go, before something bad happens to him.", Rhodes mused, assisting the female agent in carrying Fury. Exchanging glances, Rhodey left the scene along with Maria and Nick.
"Now, we need to get these test subjects out of here.", the captain added, his tone turning serious once again.
Steve was with Wanda and Vision at the moment, all focused on finding a way to free the unconscious test subjects from their cells.
"What buttons should we push here?", Wanda asked, looking as lost as ever as she stared at the countless buttons on the machine nearby. Vision shrugged, his eyes studying the structures of the chambers.
"They are still alive, aren't they?", he inquired, not really answering Wanda's question.
Before Steve could answer, the sound of the door opening caught their attention.
"Oh my gosh, it's The Avengers! Yehey!", Sabrina exclaimed with mock-enthusiasm, clapping her hands together in a childlike manner. Vision stepped in front of Wanda, both exchanging wary glances at each other.
"She's enhanced.", Wanda stated, trying to get inside her mind. Sabrina tilted her head in curiosity. "Wow, a telepath. Something I've seen before.", she teased, looking her up and down.
"Where is Strucker?", Steve asked, holding his shield up. Sabrina gave him a light giggle. "As if I were telling you."
Without warning, she shot out two fireballs from each of her hands straight at the trio. Vision immediately carried Wanda upwards bridal-style, moving her out of the way. Steve managed to block the attack using his vibranium shield.
Unfortunately, the fireballs hit the control panel of the cells, causing it to burst into flames and the lights inside the cells to flicker rapidly, eventually losing its power.
Vision descended on the ground, setting Wanda down gently. "Captain, we've got to find a way to get these adolescents out of here before something goes horribly wrong.", the android stated, his eyes set on Sabrina who looked like she was getting ready to aim another fireball.
"We'll handle her. Go, now!", Wanda shrieked, forming a force field infront of her and Vision just before a ball of fire hit them square in the face. The soldier nodded, running off in the opposite direction to find the alternative power source.
"You're gonna regret that.", Wanda hissed, conjuring up a huge ball of energy and throwing it straight at the redhead, sending her back while stunning her. Vision stood beside her, the Mind Stone on his forehead beginning to glow.
...
"AAAAH!", Thor yelled as he slammed his fist on the chest of one of the HYDRA agents, knocking him out.
"Dude, chill!", Clint muttered, patting him on the shoulder.
They were interrupted by the sensation of heavy footsteps making their way towards them. The archer and the God of Thunder slowly turned around, only to be met with the sight of the enormous Rick, a deadly gaze set on the two of them.
"Um, Thor? What the heck is that?", Clint asked, cautiously grabbing an arrow. Thor began to spin Mjolnir rapidly, making a whoosh of air hit their skin.
Rick huffed heavily, hitting his chest with his two fists. As he did this, the two Avengers caught a glimpse of someone crawling on the ceiling. Nathan released his grip, landing perfectly on the concrete floor with a mischievous smile on his lips.
"Nice. I've watched you on television. Huge fan.", Nathan remarked, mocking them. Rick gritted his teeth, smacking the back of Nathan's neck.
"Ow! Rude.", the smaller man commented, pouting his lips. Clint and Thor couldn't help but exchange weird looks.
"You talk too much.", Thor stated, suddenly throwing his hammer in Rick's direction. The impact caused him to fly straight through a wall, resulting in a huge hole.
Clint swiftly shot his arrow at Nathan, but the latter proved to be faster, jumping up and clinging himself to the ceiling.
"Well, this is gonna be fun.", Barton muttered, preparing to shoot another arrow.
...
"Stark!", Steve called out, panting as he made his way to Tony's current position. Iron Man tilted his head, staring at him in confusion.
"What's up?", he asked. Sam, in his Falcon suit, stood beside him, awaiting what Steve has to say.
"We found them, the test subjects. They're in the far side of the building, two lefts and one right.", Rogers stated, pointing at the maze of corridors.
"Right. Let's go, Wilson. We'll get them outta here, Cap.", Tony replied, rays of energy being emitted from his metal feet as he and the former soldier flew away from the scene.
"You know, Sam, you gotta keep up to me, man.", Tony uttered, causing Sam to roll his eyes. "This isn't some stupid race, Tony."
Tony scoffed. "Says the slowpoke." With that, he shot straight forward, leaving his friend behind. "Show-off.", Wilson muttered under his breath. "I heard that."
As they reached their destination, the two men caught sight of Wanda and Vision battling another red-haired woman. They watched as Sabrina released large fireballs from her hands, aiming for the couple.
"Man, she's hot. Like, literally.", Stark commented, making Sam shake his head. "Don't let Pepper hear you say that."
"You always have to be such a killjoy, don't you-" Iron Man was cut off by a blast of energy hitting him square in the chest, making him fall backwards. Sam had wide eyes, rushing over to help his teammate up.
"You okay?", he immediately asked, . Tony nodded, the iron mask from his face lifting, revealing his own features. The genius groaned at the impact. "Where the hell did that come from?", Stark asked, sitting up.
They both looked in the direction of the source, only to see a man with glowing hands staring at them wickedly. "Glad you asked.", Max replied, raising his hands quickly and shooting a ray of energy their way. Falcon immediately blocked it with his metal wings, causing Max to grin.
"Now, it's a challenge."
...
"Where is that son of a b*tch?", Kara asked, growing more and more impatient by the minute.
"Let's keep searching.", Loki merely said in response. Kara gave him a quick glance, but not too quick to escape Loki's notice.
Natasha had her gun in her hands, prepared to shoot at anyone who would try to attack them. The slightest sound would cause the trio to jolt in surprise and anticipation.
The God of Mischief suddenly stopped walking, much to the bewilderment and curiosity of the two women. "Someone's here.", Loki finally said, his eyes warily searching around.
Another set of footsteps were heard, making Kara grab ahold of them and turn them intangible and invisible. The sound of someone walking soon morphed into the sound of someone running, running towards them.
"I swear, if I saw that f**king man, I will personally-", Kara's statement was cut short when the owner of those footsteps came into view.
Natasha's jaw dropped, her eyes blinking several times at the sight before her. She squirmed away from Kara's grip, despite the latter's protests, causing her to become fully visible.
Bruce, who had his eyes on something in his hand, hadn't noticed her yet, continuing to run straight forward.
"Bruce?", Natasha breathed out, making Banner look up. He, too, had a look of surprise etched on his face. The scientist opened his mouth to say something, but was too frozen in his position to even make a sound.
"Uh... I...", he stammered, eyes boring into Natasha's own.
Kara, who had no idea what was going on, whispered to the god beside her. "Who's that?", she asked, her eyebrows furrowed. Loki smirked. "Romanoff's old flame, Doctor Banner."
Kara gasped. "The Doctor Banner?", she exclaimed, hands over her mouth. "I thought he resigned or something."
The prince shrugged. "Apparently not."
"It's nice to see you, Nat- oof!", Bruce groaned at the feeling of her hand slapping his cheek. Natasha felt her jaw tighten and her eyes welling up. "You cut me off.", she answered, her tone obviously hurt.
"I know. I'm sorry.", he replied, caressing the now red spot. "Now I see you here? Working for that... that..."
"Monster. I also know.", Bruce replied, finishing her sentence. "I guess that makes two of us.", he added, a dry laugh escaping his lips.
Natasha walked forward, fists balled up. "Being big and green doesn't make you a monster, Bruce."
"It does, according to the news-"
"It doesn't to me.", she interrupted him once more. Bruce bowed down, clutching the item in his hand even tighter. "What's that?", Nat asked, an eyebrow raised.
"It's nothing. Just something I took from Strucker- hey!" The spy had already snatched the vial filled with purple liquid from his hands.
"What's this?" Bruce awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. "It's supposed to be a cure, a cure for my... condition.", he admitted, bowing his head again.
"This is why you work for him? To become normal?!", Nat yelled, while Bruce cowered under her. "What were you thinking? You know how many lives you've saved with the big guy's help, don't you? Now, you want to take him away? What's wrong with you-"
"I did it for you!", Bruce interjected, his tone rising as well. Natasha was caught off-guard at this, shutting her mouth. "I wanted to be normal for you! So that we could run away like we planned back then. So that I know I wouldn't be a danger to anyone anymore...", he trailed off, approaching her until they were inches apart.
"... a danger to you.", Banner finished, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Kara raised an eyebrow. "What is it with men and that strand of hair?", she asked herself, causing Loki to shoot her a strange look.
Without any more words, Nat wrapped her arms around Bruce's neck, kissing him like there was no tomorrow. Kara felt her heart melting at the sight, an "aww" escaping her mouth as the scene unfolded in front of them. On the other hand, Loki groaned in annoyance. "Disgusting.", he commented, earning a hard punch on the arm from the brunette by his side.
"I want you, Bruce. All of you.", Nat said breathlessly after pulling away. Banner could feel his own eyes getting glossy at the sight of her. "I think I love you.", he commented, making the both of them chuckle. "I think I do, too."
Their sweet reunion, however, was cut short by Thor coming into view, flying past them and crashing into the wall. Kara, mortified, ran to his aid, only to see him covered in wounds.
"Thor! What happened?", she asked, sounding frantic. Thor groaned in painz responding by pointing ahead.
Everyone turned around, only to see Rick charging straight at them.
With one look at the vial, Bruce and Nat exchanged looks. Banner shot her a soft smile, taking the vial in his hand and letting it drop on the ground. It shattered into a million pieces, and the liquid seeped through the cracks on the floor.
Bruce ripped his shirt open, his skin slowly turning green and his body increasing in size by the second. Rick's momentum was put to a halt by Hulk's menacing roar, the latter proceeding to charge at him with insane speed.
...
"Ugh!", Wanda groaned as she was slammed forcefully on the ground by Sabrina. Hands around her neck began to tighten, and Wanda could feel her powers fading.
Sabrina had a deadly look on her face. "Who's superior now, huh?", she taunted, her palms growing hotter by each passing second. Wanda choked, gasping for air.
Vision, shaking his head after being thrown across the room violently by a fireball, inched towards Sabrina and shot her with a ray of energy coming from the stone on his forehead. The other redhead wa stunned at the impact, falling backwards in a daze.
The android rushed over to his lover, checking her for any injuries. Wanda gave him a soft smile. "Still smiling, that's my girl.", he commented.
Their tender moment was broken by a ball of fire hitting Vision square in the back, making him yell in pain.
"VIS!", Wanda cried out, horrified at what had just happened. Vision fell forward, a burning hole in his cape as a result of Sabrina's actions.
"You're going to pay for that!", the witch wailed, conjuring up numerous hex bolts and aiming them in Sabrina's direction.
The redhead wasn't expecting that much power coming her way. She attempted to block it using her fire power, but the bolts of energy penetrated her shield like rocks pelting paper.
"AHHH!", Sabrina screamed, as one of Wanda's hex bolts made contact with her leg, sweeping her off-balance. Soon, she was being pummelled by Wanda's surges of energy, leaving her helpless.
With a dangerous stare, the witch approached the fallen woman. Sabrina looked at her with pleading eyes. "Please, stop this.", she breathed out, blood escaping her lips.
Wanda felt Vision by her side, and with a single nod, they knocked her out cold with their powers. "That should teach her a lesson.", Wanda remarked, gritting her teeth.
Vision looked partially worried. "Wanda, she isn't dead, right?" The redhead shook her head, pointing to Sabrina's chest heaving up and down. "Shame.", she replied, making Vision hit her playfully on the shoulder.
As she turned around to face him, she grabbed the android by his neck and smashed her lips into his. Vision was noticeably surprised at this, but soon relaxed at the feeling of their lips moving in sync with each other. The android held her even tighter against his own body, lifting her up and suspending the both of them in air as they kissed.
When they finally pulled away, both were left breathless. Vision rested his forehead on Wanda's, a satisfied smile on his face.
"Now, let's go help the others.", he said, earning an assertive nod from his lover.
...
As Steve tried to locate Kara and her team, he caught sight of a man punching one of the HYDRA agents, seemingly reprimanding him for something he'd done.
"You are all so f**king useless? There were cameras there for a reason, you stupid, pieces of sh*t!", he cursed multiple times, slapping the agent harshly.
"Hey!", Steve called out. "That's enough!"
When the man did turn around, Rogers was even more glad he did call his attention.
It was no more than Strucker himself.
"Ah, Captain. Just the man I wanted to see.", Werner said with a wicked grin on his face. He kicked his agent one last time before yelling at him to scram and get the situation under control.
"I think that's gonna be a challenge, Strucker.", Steve responded, his shield dangling by his side. Werner let out a dry snicker. "I see. Of course, you've brought your friends with you."
Steve shrugged. "The more, the merrier, they say."
Werner balled his fists up, his hand inching towards his loaded gun. "I'm glad you mentioned that....", he began, making the soldier cock an eyebrow.
"... because nothing would make me merrier than shooting you in the f**king face!" Werner pulled out his gun swiftly that Steve almost failed to protect himself.
Almost.
Using his vibranium shield, Steve managed to block the bullets. What bothered him was how the bulletes actually made numerous dents on his prized shield. When the sound of an empty magazine was heard, Steve cautiously peeked from his shield, a shocked expression from his face.
Strucker still had that evil smirk plastered on his face. "Seems like you're not the only one who knows about vibranium, Cap.", he mused, before pulling out a magazine and shooting him once more.
...
"Stark, how are those test subjects doing?", Natasha asked through her earpiece.
"I'm... kinda... busy... here.", Stark replied in between grunts as he evaded the energy rays being hurled his way.
Stark shot out an energy beam from his palm, but Max blocked it with ease. With a determined look, Tony activated his thrusters in full capacity, diving straight for the enemy. Max let out a groan at the action, unable to comprehend what was happening around him as Stark pushed him through a wall, and continued to bulldoze the succeeding walls using Max's body.
Tony then tackled him an obviously bemused Max on the ground, pointing his glowing palm at his face. "Any last words?", Stark asked in the most intimidating voice he could muster.
Max smirked. "F**k off." A surge of highly-intense energy coursed through Max's body, propelling Tony a few meters back at the force. Max stood up, his body now full-on glowing, a murderous expression on his features.
"Um, guys? I need some backup here.", Tony muttered through his earpiece, shoving off the rubble on his armored suit. Before he could stand back up, Max had already lifted him in the air, throwing him upwards and making the hero crash against the ceiling.
Iron Man fell back down but managed to use his thrusters to keep himself suspended in air. But something in his suit's system crashed, making him land on the floor violently. "Friday, what's going on?", he asked, watching helplessly as Max approached him, his hands glowing even brighter than his body.
"S-Sir...", Friday's voice glitched, until the power in his suit shut off completely. "Just f**king great.", Stark remarked, sweat mixed with blood beginning to build up on the sides of his head.
"What was your question, Stark? Oh, that's right.", Max started, crouching down on Iron Man's defenseless suit of armor. "Any last words?"
"I have.", a voice sounded from behind. Before Max could turn around to face the stranger, an immense bolt of electricity pushed him backwards in a violent manner.
Thor set his hammer back down, pointing it at the floor. "No one messes with my friends."
The God of Thunder walked towards his fallen comrade, extending an arm for him to take. With one sigh of relief, the billionaire to his friend's offer, standing right back up.
"Thanks, Point Break.", Stark commented, his usual humor coming back in an instant. The prince was just about to reply when they heard another moan of pain nearby. Looking over, they saw Sam sitting up clutching his head.
"Dang.", Sam remarked, shaking the rubble off his head. He stood up once the other two men came into view. "Glad to see you've joined us, Thor.", he added, to which Thor nodded at.
"I'm more than happy to provide assistance to those who need it.", Thor replied, adding a cheeky wink at the end of his statement.
Sam cringed at Thor's facial expression. "Yeah, that was not weird at all, Thor."
"Wait, heads up!", Iron Man said, blasting a stray arrow heading their way. A few seconds later, a man crawling on the ceiling came into view, proceeding to jump on the wall and scurrying away.
Clint appeared afterwards, panting as he tried to keep up. "Man, this guy's a pain in the ass!", Barton exclaimed, setting his bow down. Out of the corner of Sam's eye, he saw Nathan jumping from his position and onto them.
Before Nathan could land on either one of them, Sam smacked the man using his wings, making the latter slam into the adjacent wall.
"Ow!", Nathan whined, cracking his neck.
"Looks like someone joined our little party, right Barty?", the ebony-haired man teased, lunging at Sam who merely flew out of his way.
"It's...", Clint started, sliding down and kicking Nathan's legs, causing him to stumble. "...Barton!", he finished, squinting his eyes at the semiconscious individual.
...
"Natasha!", Steve called through his earpiece as he dodged Strucker's bullets.
Nat, who was currently with Loki and Kara, paused upon hearing her name. "What is it, Cap?"
"I found Strucker. He's here with me, on the left wing of the facility.", he stated. Just as Rogers finished his sentence, he was hit by a gun flying in his direction.
"Let's go!", Nat exclaimed, with Kara and Loki tagging along. Loki thought it best to grab Kara's hand and teleport them to their destination.
But just as his hand made contact with hers, Kara withdrew her own hand, flinching at the sensation. "Don't even dare.", she hissed, gritting her teeth.
Loki's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I just held your hand an hour ago." The brunette rolled her eyes as they ran alongside Natasha. "That was necessary, but it doesn't, in any way, mean I enjoyed it."
The Asgardian scoffed. "If you say so." Kara could feel her ears smoking, but she swallowed any snide remark that she could possibly blurt out.
"I don't need to hear your lovers' tiff, you two.", the spy interjected, her focus still on their destination.
However, as Kara and Loki followed Nat, out of the corner of their eyes, they saw a shadow pass them by. The brunette didn't like the odd feeling it gave her, so she stopped to a halt.
"You saw it, too?", Loki asked, much to Kara's surprise. She merely nodded in response.
"Then let's follow it.", he stated, heading in the direction of the silhouette.
"Nat, I think I just saw Blaire. I'm...", she paused, collecting her thoughts. "... we're going after her.", she continued, now following the God of Mischief.
Nat sighed but knew someone had to help Steve. "All right. Loki, guard her.", she demanded through her earpiece, making Loki do his signature eyeroll.
...
Hulk was ferocious, but Rick proved to be a worthy opponent. Despite their height difference, Rick managed to throw some nasty jabs in Hulk's direction, occasionally stunning the latter.
"RAWR!", Hulk's angry roar boomed throughout the hallway, startling the HYDRA agents who were running by. He had just been kicked in the stomach by the human wrecking ball, and Hulk took major offense at this.
"What's that, you big, green wimp? Had enough?", Rick's thick accent rang through Banner's ears, and the latter could feel his vision turning red.
If he hadn't been furious earlier, he definitely was now.
"ARRGHHH!" Hulk charged towards Rick with amazing force and speed, catching the enhanced individual off-guard. Rick grabbed one of Hulk's arms in an attempt to stop him, but being bigger and heavier led to Hulk's advantage. Rick acted as a human shield as Hulk burst through the walls of Strucker's facility, making a huge hole in them, one by one.
Hulk then grabbed Rick by the legs, which was challenging at first given Rick's enormous build, and looked him in the eyes. Rick, on the other hand, was still recovering from the brutal torture he had just endured.
"HULK NOT WEAK!", the beast screamed with all his might, throwing Rick up and down while and slamming him on the floor and ceiling like he was some kind of ragdoll. Hulk did this numerous times until he was sure the man in his hands was knocked out good.
And he was.
With all his strength, Hulk thew him across the room, making Rick permeate through the walls once more. Hulk huffed in satisfaction, hitting his chest with his fist in a gorilla-like fashion, before he let out his signature roar.
...
"Come on, let's get to those kids before they- you've got to be sh**ting me.", Stark said as he and Thor stared right through a recovered Max, who had an equally-menacing expression.
"You're gonna pay for that.", Max remarked, before his whole body burst with an insane amount of energy, making a gush of wind brush against some of the Avengers.
"Sheesh, this guy's starting to tire me up.", Iron Man added, extending his palm in Max's direction and shooting an energy ray at him. Unfortunately, Max seemed to absorb Stark's ray, causing the former to glow even brighter.
"He's only getting more powerful, Stark.", Thor commented, attempting to defeat Max by releasing bolts of electricity at the enemy. Just like earlier, the assailant merely drew in Thor's lightning bolts, approaching them with a taunting look on his face.
"Sh*t, what should we do?", the billionaire asked, though not expecting any response from The God of Thunder. Just then, an idea popped in his head.
"Rhodey? Rhodey, where are you?", he called through his earpiece. In a few minutes, the lieutenant was by his side in his dashing Iron Patriot armored suit.
"Where have you been?", Iron Man asked his best friend, to which Rhodey rolled his eyes at. "If you must know, Tony, I escorted Agent Hill and the director out of this forsaken compound."
Tony groaned. "Yeah, well, that was like an hour ago-" He was cut off by an energy beam being blasted right between them, making the three men withdraw slightly.
"What the absolute-" "Language.", Tony interrupted the colonel, who had wide eyes. "How are we supposed to beat that?"
"We can't shoot more energy his way or he'll grow stronger.", Thor responded, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched Max walk nearer and nearer.
"Stronger than he can possibly manage, though.", Tony stated, before facing Max fully and allowing his arc reactor to release an intense amount of energy in Max's direction. The enemy paused briefly due to the impact, but seemed to be enjoying the volume of power coursing through his entire body.
"Tony, what are you doing?", Rhodey asked in disbelief. "Shut up and do what I'm doing.", Iron Man demanded, to which Rhodey shook his head at. Having no choice, he did just as Tony asked, blasting all the power he could muster in his suit at the radiating individual.
Thor looked hesitant, but pointed his Mjolnir at Max and shot him straight in the head with the most powerful lightning blast he had done in his life.
Max let out a loud laugh. "I used to think you were a genius, Stark.", he began, basking in all the power they were giving him at the moment. "I'm like a battery, you see. The more you charge, the stronger I get. Simple logic, I guess not all could understand.", he continued, gazing at them with a mixture of contempt and arrogance.
"Mind if we join you?", two voice said in unison, and the trio looked around to see none other than Wanda and Vision, both with their eyes set on the lumeniscent man in front of them. Stark smiled at their presence, nodding their way. Without any more words, Wanda twirled her fingers, conjuring up bright red streaks of energy and directing it at Max. Vision floated up in the air, aiming his Mind Stone at the enemy and blasting him with exceptional power.
"The thing about batteries, mister...", Stark started, trying to get a good view of the opponent with all the blinding lights surrounding him. "... is that when they overcharge...", he continued, noticing how Max was on the verge of exploding any second now.
The latter seemed to realize this, as his eyes widened in horror of what fate he would receive if the Avengers kept this up. "No...", he breathed out, feeling all the energy beginning to overwhelm him, making his temperature shoot up and his body tremble. He could detect his insides melting at the extraordinary bulk of power inside his physique.
"NO!!!", Max shrieked at the top of his lungs. Stark edged his teammates to give it all they've got. "... they tend to burst.", the billionaire ultimately finished his statement.
Within a couple of seconds, Max exploded (literally) due to the immense energy. As a result, a wave of power surged in their direction, putting them all at risk. Luckily, Wanda had already generated a force field to protect them from all the harmful radiation.
The Avengers panted, desperate to catch their breath after the exhausting incident. They all released sighs of relief as they saw fragments of Max's clothes scattered around the explosion site. "Nice thinking, Stark.", Thor commented, patting him on the back. While Tony rolled his eyes at this, the rest couldn't help but chuckle.
...
"Come back here, you little sh*t!", Clint's yells echoed throughout the corridors as he and Sam chased an injured Nathan. The latter was now panicking, knowing that either one of the two (or worse, both) would catch him any second now.
His thoughts were rambling in his head that he didn't notice Sam flying right in front of him. When Nathan turned around, Sam smirked. "Boo.", he said, before a little device from his suit ascended into view and banged right in the middle of Nathan's crown, causing him to topple over and land flat on his back.
Nathan whimpered, but just as he was about to get up, an arrow flew and hit the floor, a few centimeters from his crotch. Relieved, Nathan cocked an eyebrow humorlessly. "You missed."
Clint approached him with a smirk, pressing a button on his bow. In an instant, a net enveloped Nathan, much to the latter's surprise and dismay. "I don't think I did.", the archer responded, kicking him in the balls.
As Nathan once again let out a howl of pain, Clint pressed the button again, making a wave of electricity surge through the net, silencing the fallen opponent.
Sam landed beside Clint, a pleased expression on his face. "Nice job.", he remarked, raising his fist up. Clint snickered at the sight of Nathan flipping them off, bumping Sam's fist with his own. "Yeah, you, too."
