4. 》New Threat, Old Face《
"How exactly are we going to fight someone we cannot see?", Sam asked, adjusting his scarlet-colored goggles.
"Loki and Wanda will be in charge of that," Natasha answered firmly.
The team was split into two groups: Steve's and Tony's. Sam, Natasha, Wanda and Vision were with Steve, taking the left-wing. On the other hand, Clint, Thor, Loki and Rhodey were with Tony, who swept the right-wing.
"Nothing here," Natasha spoke, a pistol gripped firmly in her hand.
"We're clear here," Clint added, prepped with his signature bow and trick arrows.
As the two groups gradually approached each other, Loki was starting to feel bored. He lazily played with one of his daggers.
"Brother, when do I get to stab someone? I am in such a good mood to do so," Loki whispered as he walked next to Thor.
"Loki, you do realize that everyone can hear you, right?", Steve remarked. Loki smirked.
"Perhaps it was my intention that you all hear that, Rogers," the God of Mischief retorted, earning a punch in the arm from his brother.
"Instead of daydreaming about stabbing someone, use your powers to help us find this guy, Antlers," Tony said, turning around slightly to face Loki, who just scoffed in response. "Enough with the stupid nicknames-"
"Shut up. I feel something," Wanda suddenly remarked, putting everyone to a halt.
"What? What is it? Is it a human? I swear if that is another one of those funny-looking aliens or homicidal robots-"
"Shut up, Sam! Let her concentrate, please!", Rhodey scolded from the other end of Sam's earpiece.
Wanda continued moving her fingers around, but alas, whatever she had sensed left the area.
"Great. It's gone now. Thanks," she muttered under her breath. Natasha, Steve and Vision glared at Sam.
"What?", Sam asked innocently, raising his hands up in surrender.
"Moving on," Tony spoke, and the two teams started making their way towards each other.
Loki was mindlessly tossing his daggers when he saw something in the corner of his eye, instantly making him stop in his tracks. The rest of the group didn't seem to notice, though.
He shut his eyes and twirled his fingers around. He was sure he saw something, or someone.
He waved his hand from the left going to the right. As his hand made its way to the right, he could make out a figure standing a couple of meters away from him.
This was it.
Loki's eyes snapped open, but before he could call the others' attention, a fist collided with his jaw, sending him backwards.
The large thud of Loki's fall alerted Tony's team.
"They're here!", Thor yelled, wielding his Mjolnir in his hand.
Tony pointed towards the direction where Loki previously stood and blasted energy from his armored hand. Clint started shooting arrows from his bow in the same direction.
"Let's go, let's go!", Steve stated as his team ran to meet Tony's.
"Wanda, help us see this person!", Natasha yelled, shooting bullets out of her pistol.
The redhead was about to reload her gun when a kick on her legs knocked her off-balance.
Wanda struggled to sense the figure, but there was too much commotion going on that she couldn't concentrate.
Arrows flew, Mjolnir whirled around, energy rays were blasted, a certain Vibranium shield was tossed around, but no one seemed to hit the invisible body.
All the Avengers succeeded in doing was either accidentally hitting each other or receiving invisible kicks and punches.
Loki, recovering from the initial shock of being punched square in the jaw, finally stood up and witnessed what was going on.
"None of us is going to catch this guy until we see him," Steve said, panting after aimlessly throwing his shield around.
"If this is even a guy," Natasha retorted, reloading her gun.
The God of Mischief had to think of something quick. He turned his attention to the ceiling and noticed the sprinklers.
He flicked his finger and in an instant, water droplets fell from the ceiling, soaking everyone.
"Really, Loki?", Clint whined, rolling his eyes.
"Everyone, stop," Loki ordered, effectively freezing everyone.
All of the team members stood in their spot, anxiously waiting what would happen next.
Loki's eyes scanned the wing, and he could make out water droplets bouncing off a figure. A figure walking past Vision, Natasha and Clint, now slowly making its way towards him.
There you are.
Loki ran towards the body and tackled it on the ground, pinning its arms and crossing them over its chest. He then lifted up the figure with ease and leaned it against his big, tall frame.
"I've got him!", Loki yelled and the rest of the Avengers pointed their weapons at the invisible person, who wouldn't stop squirming out of the god's grasp.
"Make your move, Hollow Man," Tony stepped forward, holding his arm out in front of the body.
The mystery person showed their feet first, then their legs, hips, moving upwards.
In a few seconds, the person was now visible as Tony Stark.
"Oh, we've got a shapeshifter here.", Sam piped up, crossing his arms.
"Stop that," the real Tony stated, removing his iron mask. The impostor chuckled.
"Why? Do I hurt your gigantic ego?", the person mocked exactly in Tony's voice, a huge smirk on his face.
Loki's grip on the impostor tightened, and he whispered in his ear, "I suggest you reveal your true form before I lose my patience."
"Do as he says," Steve commanded. 'Tony' rolled his eyes and slowly started to change.
Big feet were replaced with dainty ones; muscular legs turned into slender ones; narrow hips morphed into wide ones; a flat chest took on more volume; and Stark's straight, black hair turned wavy with a chestnut color.
It was a woman.
"Correction. Hollow Woman.", Tony said, referring to his previous statement, holding his index finger up.
Everyone was shocked, but not as surprised as Thor was. The elder brother approached the young lady, his jaw dropped.
"La-lady Kara?", he said in awe. The others looked utterly confused.
"You know this woman?" Steve inquired, looking as bewildered as ever.
Loki froze upon hearing the name. His heart rate began to quicken and his eyes were wide open.
It can't be her. It couldn't be her. He hadn't seen her in years.
He spun her around, not releasing the grip on her shoulders. His doubtful thoughts left the moment his green orbs met her hazel ones.
"Kara?", Loki stuttered, his expression of disbelief bringing satisfaction to the woman's face as she stared him down with looks that could kill.
"Hello, you," she replied with venom lacing her tone.
