34. 》Temptations, Begone《

"One last ride, Loki. Please?", Kara whined, clasping her hands together and putting on her best puppy dog face. Loki sighed, shaking his head.

"No. I do not need you throwing up all over again, Kara.", he said, crossing his arms and avoiding her gaze.

Kara pouted as they walked, making strange noises and kicking the pebbles on the ground. Loki couldn't resist looking at her, though. He glanced at the lady beside him to find her with her head down, arms behind her back and a defeated look on her face.

With one big, deep breath, Loki stopped walking. This made Kara stop, too. She looked at him expectantly.

"Only one.", the god stated, raising his index finger. Kara's eyes widened and she jumped up and down.

"Yes! Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you!", she yelled, causing a few heads to turn her way. Loki shot them an apologetic look.

He was even more startled when he felt a pair of arms embrace his torso, squeezing rather tight. The raven-haired prince couldn't stop the blush appearing on his cheeks, hastily looking away so that no one will see.

Kara seemed to realize what she was doing, her eyes opening and quickly pulling away from the Asgardian. She ran a hand through her hair and kept a straight face, earning a smirk from the God of Mischief.

"It seems I am irresistible, am I not?", he teased, leaning forward. Kara rolled her eyes, moving back in response. "No way. Come on. I wanna ride the merry-go-round."

With that, the woman headed for the ride, Loki following behind her. Once his eyes landed on the horses moving around in a circle, his face contorted in disgust.

"What kind of pathetic Midgardian enjoyment is this?", he muttered to himself. He watched as the ride began to slow down, the giddy laughs and shrieks dying down, as well. His eyes then turned to Kara, who was waving him over.

"Come on! We're next!", she called out, a huge grin on her face.

Loki scoffed. "If I had known she was into horses, I would've taken her to Asgard so she can ride one for goodness knows how long."

As he approached the woman, he was led by the ride employee to one of the horses. He waited for Kara to choose one, then proceeded to take the horse next to her.

When all the horses were taken, a buzzer was heard, signalling that the ride will start to move again. As the ride sped up, Kara gripped onto the pole, enjoying the wind hitting her face.

"It's been a while since I've ridden one of these.", she piped up, glancing over at Loki.

Upon setting her eyes at him, she felt her heart beating fast. Loki looked majestic, his hair being swept back, his focus ahead of him, his hands holding the handles firmly, and the occasional smile that would leave his lips at hearing the kids behind him squeal in delight.

Kara seemed to forget that she was staring. She actually thought the ride was slowing down, given that everything she was seeing appeared to be in slow-motion.

"Sh*t, Kara. Snap out of it.", she mentally noted.

That was until a familiar pair of twinkling blue-green orbs met her own. Her head snapped back forward so quick, she thought her neck was going to break.

"F**k, f**k, he caught me again. I must look like a fool.", she whispered to herself, wanting to melt right there and then.

After what felt like an eternity, the ride finally slowed down to a halt. As Kara was about to get down from her horse, she saw a hand being extended to her from the corner of her eye. She glanced up to see Loki, acting all chivalrous.

"M'lady.", he said with a bow, chuckling to himself.

Kara just stared at him, hear palms getting all sweaty all of a sudden. "F**k you, you're making it worse.", she internally stated.

She hesitantly took his hand, wiping her own on her shirt first. Upon the contact, Loki's hand held hers, guiding her down her horse. Kara tried her best to avoid his look.

"There is one more shop I'd like to go before we return, if you allow me.", he said, breaking the silence. Kara tilted her head and looked at him, slightly confused. The god smiled in response.

The pair then walked towards a souvenir shop, with the prince being the gentleman he is and opening the door for her. "Oh, thanks.", she muttered with a shy tone.

They both looked around the store, which was filled with a variety of items. Shirts, hats, shorts, pants, trinkets, novelty items, stuffed toys, key chains, and decorations adorned the shop. Loki's eyes landed on a small toy ring, with an obviously fake emerald on the top.

"That looks decent.", he said, taking it in his hands. As if by instinct, he turned to catch a glimpse of his ex-lover, who was busy eyeing a stuffed teddy bear.

"Take it.", a voice spoke from behind, surprising the god a bit. Loki turned about to see a middle-aged man, whom he assumed to be the store-owner.

"How much does this item cost?", he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The man looked over Loki's shoulder to gaze at Kara, then back to him. He smiled.

"Is this for that beautiful woman back there?", the man inquired, giving him a knowing look matched with a grin. Loki's lips curved upwards, nodding slowly.

"In that case, take it. No one seems to notice it in this shop, anyways.", the man replied, patting him on the shoulder. When the god opened his mouth to object, the store-owner gave him the hand.

"I don't wanna hear it. Just put it in your pocket, lad."

Loki looked at him incredulously. He blinked a few times, and obeyed. The man grinned, nodding over to Kara's direction.

"That teddy bear costs $3, though."

"Loki...", Kara trailed off, her eyebrows furrowed. Loki looked at her confused.

"What?"

"You didn't have to get me this.", she said, gesturing to the teddy bear now in her arms. The god chuckled.

"I know."

"Then why did you?", she pressed, stopping in her tracks. The prince did the same, rolling his eyes in exaggeration.

"I simply want to. Plus, that is to make up for that hideous headwear you claimed as prize.", he retorted, proceeding to walk on. Kara gave him an offended look, smacking his arm. Loki raised an eyebrow.

"Was that supposed to hurt?"

Kara squinted her eyes at him. "You're so... argh!", she gave up, hugging her bear close to her chest and walking ahead of him. Loki snickered at this.

"Come here this instant, young woman.  Unless you want to stay here.", he called out, tapping his foot. With one death glare, Kara made her way to the god, rolling her eyes. He grabbed her by the waist again, pulling her flush against him. Kara's heart sped at the contact and the proximity.

"Tempting idea, though.", she managed to come back at his previous statement. Loki simply rolled his eyes.

The familiar green light enclosed them again. The brunette felt the wind brushing past them quickly, causing her to shut her eyes. When she opened them, they were back at HQ, in Loki's room.

Like nothing happened at all.

"Dang, it's night already? How come I did not notice that?", she said, throwing the bear on the bed and gazing out the window. She set her phone down on the nightstand, and emptied her pockets full of candy wrappers.

Loki scoffed. "Possibly because you were too busy staring at me whilst on the merry-go-round."

Kara stiffened at his words. "Sh*t, I knew it was obvious.", she cursed herself. She was too preoccupied scolding herself at her actions that she failed to feel a pair of arms wrapping themselves around her tiny frame.

"What...", she trailed off, oddly enjoying the touch. Loki swayed them slowly, humming a tune in her ear.

"You're so... warm.", he stated, nestling his face in her neck. Kara gulped, taking his arms in her hands and pulling them apart.

"I... need to go to the bathroom.", she spoke out, hurriedly grabbing a towel and entering the comfort room. The sound of it slamming shut rang through the god's ears.

"Hey, quiet down!", a voice screamed from the outside, which Loki assumed was Tony. He scoffed and plopped down on his bed.

"Shut up, Stark!", the God of Mischief retorted. Loki was about to close his eyes when he heard a beeping sound. He sat up to find out where it was coming from, when a light from the corner of his eye caught his attention. It was Kara's phone.

He glanced at the bathroom door, hearing the showering sounds, then took her phone in his hands. He opened it, only to reveal it had a password. Loki chuckled by himself. "Of course."

Loki's eyes flickered to a notification stating that Kara had a new message. The god raised an eyebrow at this. But seeing that there was no opening her phone and that doing so will be considered invasion of privacy, he shrugged it off.

He pressed the button again to close the device, until he took the time to analyze the picture which Kara had set as her lock screen.

"Is that...", Loki trailed off, blinking a few more times. Upon hearing the sound of the shower coming to an end, he hastily returned the phone to its previous position, lying down on the bed and shutting his eyes.

The god found himself smiling as he drifted off to sleep, the clicking of the door the last thing he heard.
