32. 》Keep an Eye Out《
The news spread like wildfire across SHIELD headquarters. All the other agents made sure to stay out of Wanda's way, afraid of her powers. They also avoided Kara, at all costs, which made the brunette feel even worse.
"Why are they scared of me? I didn't almost f**king kill someone.", Kara muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes at the sight of two agents heading her way, but swiftly turning a full 180 degrees upon seeing her.
Loki hummed in response, startling the woman. "I think you were close, though.", he replied. Kara responded by walking away from him in a huff.
"Hey, wait!", Loki called out.
Later that evening...
The team currently sat together in the dining room, eating their supper. To say it was quiet was an understatement. No one said a word, not even Sam, who had a hard time keeping his mouth shut.
Each member's eyes would look up from their food, glancing at each other, then looking back down. Tony sighed, getting sick of the silent atmosphere enveloping the group.
"Why are we all quiet? It's making me very uncomfortable.", Tony whined, setting his utensils down. Natasha rolled her eyes. "We don't have to talk all the time, Tony."
"Well, apparently, he does.", Rhodey interjected, pointing to his friend. This earned him a punch on the shoulder. "Rude."
"Why don't we address the elephant in the room, then?", Clint suggested, after swallowing his food. Thor looked around, obviously puzzled.
"Elephant? I do not see-"
"Dude, it's a metaphor.", Sam spoke up, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"That's a great idea, Barton.", Steve said, clasping his hands together. He turned his attention to Kara first, who he noticed was playing with her food, then to Wanda, who didn't even eat at all.
"Wanda? Do you have anything to say?", he asked, and the rest shifted their focuses to the witch. Wanda grew nervous.
"I... uh...", she trailed off, rubbing her arm. Kara shot her a quick deadly glance, rolled her eyes, and resumed whatever it is that she was doing.
"It was an accident. I didn't realize the energy that came out of my hands was going to be that intense-"
"Oh, you didn't realize, did you?", Kara cut her off, harshly dropping her utensils on her plate. Loki gave her a look of concern.
Wanda stared at her back. "I am not lying, Kara!"
Kara scoffed at this. "Why don't you just admit that you wanted to hurt me, like, deliberately?" Wanda shook her head quickly. "I told you, I'm not-"
"All right, all right. Everyone, settle down.", Steve piped up, shushing the both of them. Loki raised an eyebrow.
"This could have been avoided, as a matter of fact.", the god stated, squinting his eyes at the captain. Steve looked at him expectantly. "And you're looking at me because...?"
The raven-haired prince shrugged, suddenly interested in his glass of water. "You were there. You should have kept a better eye on Kara.", he responded. Thor internally face-palmed.
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait, wasn't it your job to watch her? Where were you during those times, may I ask?" Loki's jaw clenched.
"She was training with you. I assumed she was in good hands." With that, he stole a swift glance at Kara, who shut her eyes and breathed out heavily. "I guess I was terribly mistaken."
Steve's fists balled up, catching the attention of Sam and Natasha. The pair looked at each other in concern, and attempted to calm the soldier down.
"Enough!", Kara yelled, standing up abruptly. Her chair fell down as a result of her actions. "I'm getting sick of all the blabbering."She took one last look at everyone, then stormed out of the dining room.
Natasha stood up to follow her, but was stopped by Steve, who shook his head. The assassin sat back down, eyes still laced with worry for her friend.
"Well, that was entertaining.", Tony remarked.
A few seconds later, Loki rose up from his seat, as well. He didn't bother looking at his teammates, his mind on his ex-lover. He first headed to his room, thinking that's where she would be. Much to his dismay, there was no Kara in there.
"Kara?", he called out, his head shifting from side to side. He quickened his pace, his thoughts racing as to what she could be doing as of a moment. He suddenly panicked, realizing that Kara didn't have her bangles on.
"Sh*t.", he cursed, roaming the building. He let out a sigh of relief when he caught a glimpse of some familiar brown locks by the balcony. The god cautiously approached her, sensing the heat radiating from her skin at the outburst just a few moments ago. When he finally reached her side, he stared off at the distance, looking at Kara from the corner of his eye.
"Haven't you heard of the term space?", she asked, eyes still lingering at the night sky.
"I must say, the concept is rather strange to me.", he responded, smiling a bit. Kara's eyes flickered to his own, rolling her eyes.
"Why are you here?", she inquired again, facing him. Loki imitated her actions. "Is it a crime to want to be with you?"
There it was again, the heat rising to Kara's cheeks and the tingle down her spine. No matter how hard she tried to conceal it, no matter what direction she faced, the god before her knew how he made her feel, and it brought him a sense of pride that he still had that effect on her after all these years.
"The sky's beautiful tonight.", Kara commented, avoiding the topic. Her eyes widened when she saw the man beside her smirking from her peripheral vision and opening his mouth to say something.
"If you're going to say I'm more beautiful than the sky, save it.", she cut him off with her finger. Loki closed his mouth shut, smiling at her. Kara sighed.
"We better get inside.", the god spoke up, his eyes still at the distance. He proceeded back inside, stopping midway upon noticing that the woman didn't move a muscle. "Kara."
"Yeah, yeah. Hang on-", she was interrupted by the sound of her phone beeping. She reached into her pocket for her phone, quickly hiding it from Loki's view. She opened her lock screen to find she had a message from an unknown number.
"Keep an eye out while you're there. People are not what they seem."
Kara's eyebrows furrowed at the text. Who in the world would have her number?
"Who is this?" was her reply. She shoved her phone back in her pocket and was about to turn around when she got this eerie feeling that she was being watched. Kara looked over at the balcony, looking around for anything suspicious, but the grounds were empty.
Her frantic thoughts were disrupted by an arm grabbing her wrist and dragging her inside.
"No one makes me wait, you understand?", Loki growled in her ear. Kara wasn't in the mood to fight him off, so she just followed his lead. "Whatever."

It's been three days since Wanda nearly blasted Kara out of existence, and since Loki managed to send shivers down his ex-lover's spine as he used to. Loki took it upon himself to train Kara away from Wanda. He would call Vision every now and then IF truly needed (and it must be noted that Loki does not need anyone's aid).
The exes got on pretty well. As Kara worked to discover her other capabilities, Loki was being slightly decent. Sure, there was the occasional flirting and teasing on the god's part, but Kara thought it kept things... interesting.
Not that she would admit it out loud, though.
"All right. I have to say, I'm impressed with how fast you're learning.", the god remarked, uncrossing his arms and walking over to the woman in front of him drenched in sweat.
Kara scoffed at this. "Should I be honored that I managed to impress you, Your Majesty?", she asked with a mocking bow. Loki chuckled. "Indeed, you should."
They both shared a snicker, Kara shaking her head. Her smile faded once she saw a figure by the doorway.
"Bravo. I have to agree with Mr. Laufeyson here, that was impressive.", Nick spoke whilst applauding slowly. Kara squinted her eyes at the man. Loki cocked an eyebrow.
"Did you just agree with me?", he inquired incredulously. The director rolled his eye.
"By the way, I-"
"Hey, Kara!", Tony ran inside, eyes on Kara. When he caught sight of Fury, the billionaire let out an exaggerated gasp. Loki pinched the bridge of his nose.
"What do you want, Stark?", the director inquired, hands behind his back.
"Oh, I need Kara. For the suit I'm making for her.", he replied coolly. Nick cocked an eyebrow. "Suit, you say?" With this, he turned around to look at the brunette, who analyzed him in return.
"Yeah, Cap's orders. Anyways, I'm gonna steal her for a mo, Reindeer Games.", Tony added, eyes now on Kara and gesturing towards the door. The woman excused herself from the two other men in the room and left.
"My suit is finished?", Kara asked, slight giddiness in her voice. Tony shook his head. "Not yet, I still have to work on the modifications." The woman couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Mo-modifications?", she asked again. It was the first time someone made something for her, and to think that Tony added some special features to it made her feel... well, special.
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Uh, yeah, kid. Don't fuss about it. It's nothing, really." With this, Tony dialed a bunch of numbers into a keypad outside a room, and the doors opened. As they both stepped in, the doors closed on their own.
"Cool.", she whispered, gazing at all the gadgets in the room which she assumed was Tony's lab.
The billionaire smirked. "Pretty neat, huh? I made all of these.", he remarked.
Kara's eyes landed on a silver suit sprawled across one of the tables. It had violet details on it. "Is... is that mine?", she asked incredulously. Tony nodded. "Sorry, I forgot to consult you on the colors. It's easy to paint it anew if you want-"
"No!", she interjected, startling Tony a bit. "Sorry, it's just... no. It's perfect. Thank you."
"Try it on, kid."

"So, Mr. Laufeyson.", Nick spoke up after a few minutes of silence. Loki snapped his head up to meet his gaze.
"How's Kara's condition?", the director asked further, walking around the god in a circle. The god eyed the one-eyed man, as well. "Why the sudden interest, Fury?"
Nick stopped walking. "You watch your mouth while talking to me, Laufeyson. I am in charge of you." Loki chuckled humorlessly. "No one's in charge of me. I am a god, in case it slipped that feeble mind of yours." The raven-haired prince glared at him for the last time, and exited the room, leaving Fury standing all alone.
"Who does that mortal think he is?", Loki muttered under his breath, his fists balled up. His irritation almost caused him to bump square into his brother, who was sipping on some soda.
"Woah there, brother. Who are you mad at again?", Thor asked, eyeing the man in front of him. Loki was about to open his mouth when his eyes landed on the beverage Thor held in his hands.
"What is that?", he asked, looking utterly disgusted. Thor shot him a confused look, then brought the drink up for him to see. "Oh, some Midgardian soda. It's actually good. Here, have a sip-"
Loki turned his head away. "I'd rather not drink from where your saliva is, brother." Thor laughed heartily.
Nick shot an evil grin as he watched the god leave the room they were in, Loki's words echoing in his head. "Oh, you'll see."
