31. 》Cross My Mind《

As Loki carried the woman in his arms, his eyes would occasionally flicker from her eyes to her ankle. Kara rested her head on his chest, uncaring of how weak she looked like at the moment. The tears that streamed down her face were beginning to dry up, but her nose remained cherry red. The God of Mischief despised seeing her in this state, but he would be lying if he said that his heart wasn't fluttering at the moment.

With one push, the door to their shared room opened. As Loki advanced to the bed, he kicked the door shut with a loud thud.

He laid her down on the bed gently, noticing how she hissed at the sensation of her ankle making contact with the bed.

"Place your leg on my lap.", Loki ordered, staring at her. Kara didn't move a muscle.

Loki sighed. "Kara, please cooperate. I'm trying to help you-"

"You don't need to. I'll heal on my own.", she retorted, still avoiding his gaze. Loki furrowed his eyebrows.

"Why do you refuse my help all the time?", he asked, tilting his head to get a better view of her. Kara shook her head slightly. "I don't need it."

"I think you do.", he answered. Kara's eyes shot up to meet his. "Do you enjoy this?"

The god looked confused. "Seeing me weak? Having you to come to my rescue? Does this make you feel power over me?", she continued, another set of tears threatening to fall from her already glossy eyes.

Loki scoffed in disbelief. "Do you truly think so little of me, Kara? You think I use your weakness for my own advantage?"

Kara bowed her head. "I don't know what to think of you anymore, Loki.", she whispered, but the man beside her heard it loud and clear.

Without another word, Loki moved closer to her, his gaze soft. Kara shuffled in her seat, looking at him from the corner of her eye. It was until she felt his breath on her ear that she tensed up, her face growing red.

"Shame.", he muttered, bending down with his eyes still fixed on hers.

"What are you- AH!", she was interrupted by the god taking her leg in his hands and bringing it up to his lap. "Hold still."

The brunette rolled her eyes, but for some reason, her stomach churned at his touch. She couldn't help but look at him and examine his facial features.

Dang, was he beautiful. He hadn't changed a bit since the last time they were together. Maybe his hair grew longer, and his jaw became more defined, but all in all, he looked the same. Same piercing eyes, same intense stare, same sharp jawline, same smooth hair, same thin lips.

Upon resting her eyes on his lips, she reminisced the last time they kissed.

"Loki, it's not working out.", Kara spoke through deep breaths. The god stiffened at her words.

"Are you saying what I think you're saying?", he asked, voice barely above a whisper. He blinked several times, and his jaw clenched.

Kara didn't know what else to say. She felt that if she spoke again, her voice would break and the waterworks would begin again.

"I see.", he added softly, boring his eyes into her skull. He approached her cautiously, observing how Kara flinched at his sudden movement. When Loki did reach her, he tucked a strand of stray hair behind her ear. Kara unconsciously leaned into his touch.

"I would not want say goodbye, for I know I will see you again.", Loki stated, never taking his eyes off her. The woman in front of him gritted her teeth.

"Will we?", she finally asked, meeting his stare. "It seems you have a lot on your hands right now, Laufeyson."

Loki's lips twitched into a smile. "I do. But for some reason, I have a feeling we'll meet again someday."

"I sure hope not.", she replied harshly. Without any more words, she turned on her heel, prepared to walk in the opposite direction. A pair of arms grabbing her shoulders stopped her from going any further, though.

"Loki, please. Just... we're different people right now. We're in contrasting worlds, you and I. If only the circumstances were in our favor-" she was silenced by a finger resting on her lips.

"Hush, darling. You're rambling again.", Loki muttered, gazing at his lover. He slowly pulled his finger away.

"Then why did you stop me?", she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I merely want to do two things, if you would allow me.", he continued, his eyes asking for permission. "Before you go."

Kara's heart broke at the mention of those three words. Though she could feel her world tearing down, she kept a straight face.

Oh, but did her eyes give her away.

Loki stepped forward, closing any gap between them, and wrapped her in his arms ever so tightly. Kara stood there for a moment, just breathing in his scent. That was until she gave in and grazed his back with her hands. She could feel Loki nuzzling his head in the crook of her neck, and this action alone sent chills down her spine.

"You're so warm.", he whispered, slowly pulling away. Kara caught a glimpse of his glossy eyes.

"You said two things. What was the other?", she inquired, ignoring his previous comment. The God of Mischief gave her a small smile.

"This."

A familiar pair of lips crashed against her own, catching her off-guard. Loki brought his hand to the back of her head, tangling her hair with his fingers and pulling her even closer. His other hand snaked its way to her waist, resting there possessively. Kara's mind couldn't comprehend what was happening right away. When she did, she felt her body betraying her mind and relaxing at his kiss. She placed her hands on his chest, and her legs began to feel like jelly at Loki's boldness.

Their lips were in sync, and at the moment, neither of them wanted to pull away. Memories of their happiest moments flashed back into their minds, and the could feel heat radiating from the both of them.

Kara knew that if this went on any longer, she would decide to stay with him, stay with the man was the first to steal her heart.

Which must be the reason she pulled away abruptly, staring at him one last time as a single tear escaped her eyes, and ran away .

"Hey!", Loki raised his voice, snapping his fingers. Kara batted her eyes quickly, and shook her head. "Wha-"

"What happened to you? Are you all right?", the god asked, concern lacing his tone. He cupped her face in his hands, studying her for any sign of something wrong.

"I... I'm fine, Loki.", she replied, taking her eyes off him.

Loki smirked once he brought his hands back down. "You were thinking about me, were you not?"

Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "You never even cross my mind."

Loki hummed in response, still grinning. "As I was saying, your ankle is all healed now. Try walking.", the raven-haired prince suggested, setting her leg down carefully. Kara nodded, standing up. Her leg must've fallen asleep, though, since she stumbled slightly. Loki instinctively grabbed her arm, steadying her.

Kara tried walking, and to her surprise, she didn't feel an ounce of pain compared to when the incident just happened. She exhaled in satisfaction, thankful that the agonizing sting was gone.

"You're welcome.", a deep voice broke her from her thoughts. Kara couldn't help but roll her eyes. Turning around, she saw Loki sitting with his arms crossed, his eyebrow arched in expectation.

"Thank you.", Kara mused, bowing down in exaggeration. Loki chuckled at her actions, but was still looking at her expectantly.

"What?", she asked, confused at his expression. Loki shrugged. "The last time you thanked me, I also received a kiss on the cheek."

Kara scoffed. "Oh, no. You're not getting that from me." The god stood up, fixing the sheets which were wrinkled from them sitting on them a while ago. He walked towards her direction, causing Kara to move out of the way, thinking he was going out.

He was going out, but of course, he had managed to steal a kiss from her slightly parted lips.

"Oops, I missed."

Before Kara could react, he gave her a cheeky grin with his signature wink, dashing out of the room.

Kara caressed her lips, her eyes widening in realization.

"YOU DIDN'T MISS, YOU LITTLE SH*T!"
