26. 》Now It's Here, Now It's Not《

"This is going to distract me, huh?", Kara asked, amusement in her voice as she was led by the captain and the super-spy to the training room of the facility.

"We know that Strucker's after you, right?", Steve inquired, making Kara stiffen and bow her head down. Steve sighed at this. "Don't worry, that's why we're here, Kara. To protect you. But most importantly, to help you use your powers to your advantage.", he added. This caused Natasha's head to snap towards his direction.

"Are you saying...", she trailed off, now focusing on Kara. "Yes, Nat. I think it's time.", he replied, smiling. Kara looked at the both of them dumbfounded.

"Time for what? I'm lost.", the young lady stated, chucking softly.

Steve approached her and took her wrists in his hands. A now flustered Kara raised her eyebrows at his actions. "I think it's time these went off.", he replied, eyes fixed on the bangles gripping her wrists.

"I beg your pardon?", Loki asked disbelievingly, walking alongside Natasha. The woman rolled her eyes.

"Steve and I are going to train her. Now, I don't want to appear to be disobeying Fury's orders, so you need to come with us and watch her.", she explained, stopping in her tracks and crossing her arms. It was Loki's turn to roll his eyes.

"Why is Rogers going to train her? She should be instructed by an expert in terms of battle.", he added, his tone with obvious irritation. Natasha cocked an eyebrow.

"Look, you're wasting my time here. Are you coming or not?", she inquired impatiently, glaring at the god before her.

"Do I have a choice, Romanoff?"

Natasha smirked, and walked to where Steve and Kara were, Loki trailing close behind. They walked in on Steve pinning Kara on the wall, with her back facing his front and her arms locked behind her. The Asgardian prince cocked an eyebrow at this, squinting his eyes at them. He didn't know if it was all in his head, but he swore he could see Steve whispering something in her ear.

"Ah, you're here!", Steve panted, catching sight of the newcomers. He loosened his grip on Kara, whose face was now bright red and was also breathing heavily. The young lady tilted her head up to take a quick look at Loki, who was staring at her bangle-free wrists.

"Your bangles are off.", the god stated, ignoring Steve's greeting. Kara scoffed. "No sh*t, Sherlock."

"Hey.", the captain scolded, pointing a finger at her. Kara raised her hands in surrender.

"Okay, I think you've earned a break. Natasha, you're up next.", Rogers ordered, grabbing a face towel and exiting the room. The redhead nodded.

"I'm gonna go get some water. Would you like some?", she offered, to which Kara gave a thumbs-up at. As the spy headed out, she gave Loki a 'keep-an-eye-on-her--or-else' look. Loki fixed his clothes and approached his ex-lover.

"Try and kiss me one more time, I'll cut your f**king balls off.", Kara growled, still panting from their session earlier. Loki placed his hands on his hips.

"Stand up.", he demanded. Kara cocked an eyebrow at his tone, but did as she was told. Loki grinned at this. "Good girl."

Her jaw clenched and her fists balled up. "Don't call me that." The god seemed amused by this. "Why not? Does it sound...", he cut himself off as he lunged at her, causing Kara to stumble backwards and land butt-first on the floor. The God of Mischief grabbed her arms and placed them above her head, leaning down so his face was dangerously close to hers.

"... dirty?", he whispered, and Kara could feel shivers travelling down her spine. Her eyes widened, and she kicked him in the stomach. Loki rolled over in pain at the sudden contact, gripping his torso.

"I like playing dirty.", Kara challenged, standing right back up. The Asgardian smirked at her comment.

"That makes two of us." Without warning, the god ducked down and swept her off her feet (quite literally), making her lose her balance and fall down with a loud thud.

"You f**king...", she cursed, catapulting herself back up by kicking her legs up. Loki grinned. "Impressive.", he remarked.

Kara snarled and jabbed with her left hand, which unfortunately Loki dodged. Right jab, dodge. As she attempted an uppercut, he grabbed her wrist and yanked her forward. He extended his leg just as Kara fell forward, making her trip and tumble.

"Stop being predictable.", he taunted, yawning as a way of mocking her.

Kara shut her eyes, feeling the heat build up inside her due to her anger, and stood up to face him. She scowled at him, and gave one big huff while punching the wall next to her.

Loki's eyes widened, and his head stooped forward to confirm what he was seeing. Kara was puzzled at his reaction, even more so when she didn't feel any pain as her fist collided with the wall. So, she followed the god's gaze, and there she saw it.

Her hand passed straight through the wall.

"Wha-?!", she muttered to herself. She tried moving her hand from the other side, and her lips twitched upwards at her success. She shut her eyes, and when she opened them, she found that the wall was flickering.

It was f**king flickering.

"You... you're making the wall disappear, Kara!", Loki remarked, putting his arms behind his head.

That smile in the lady's face, however, was replaced by an expression of worry when the wall shifted back, with her hand still stuck in it.

"Sh*t, sh*t!" she yelled, pulling at her hand desperately as she thought of ways to free herself from the wall. "Loki, help!"

The god snapped out of the trance he was in, and used his magic to grab ahold of her and pull her out. However, there was something preventing him from doing so successfully.

"Stop fighting me, then!", he retorted, his arms extended and fingers trembling. "I'm not doing anything!", Kara yelled back, beads of sweat forming on her temple as she struggled alongside Loki.

The prince shut his eyes, breathed in, and focused his energy on her. The young lady, who was leaning back and pulling herself off, finally got her hand out of the wall. Unfortunately, this caused her to fall backwards and bump into a certain god.

"Oof!", they said in unison upon colliding with each other, both stumbling backwards. Loki instinctively wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her in place as his back made contact with the floor.

The pair stayed in that position for a while, catching their breaths after what had just happened. Kara could feel his heart beating fast. Her own, as well. As she opened her eyes, she saw her hands clutching Loki's arms like her life depended on it, and felt his hot breath against her neck.

A blush crept its way to her cheeks, and she hastily stood back up. She fixed her clothes and wiped the sweat on her forehead. Loki imitated her actions.

"Words of gratitude would be appreciated.", he piped up, earning an eye roll from his partner. "Don't think this changes anything, Laufeyson."

"Ooh, on a last name basis are we?", he responded, brushing his hair out of his face.

Kara didn't reply. Her eyes were now fixed on her hands, which were shaking violently. "I... I didn't know that I could do that.", she said softly, still in disbelief. Loki tilted his head to the side.

"Neither did I.", he added. "All the more reason to get you under control."

Kara gave him a deadly glare. "Get ME under control? Ha! You're one to talk, Laufeyson."

"What's going on here?", a voice piped up. The duo looked up to see Natasha standing by the door, a tumbler of water in her hand. Her eyes shifted to Loki, then to Kara. Kara shook her head slightly as a sign of saying everything's all right. The god, on the other hand, simply raised an eyebrow at her.

"Is it all right? Really, now?", Kara's conscience asked. The woman mentally flipped herself off.

"Okaaay then. I'll just leave this here, Kara.", the spy stated, setting the jug down and exiting the room.

Loki smirked at Kara's remark. "Oh, you have no idea, pet." He walked towards her slowly, but this time, Kara didn't back away. She stood firm in her place, scowling at the god. He took her wrists in his hands, unfazed by her efforts of fighting him off, and clipped the bangles back on. She shot him a cold stare.

"Come on. I would not want you getting stuck in anymore walls, darling.", Loki shrugged, snapping his fingers. A towel appeared out of nowhere, and the god flicked it at Kara, causing it to land flat on her face. She angrily shoved it away, rolled her eyes, realized she needed it, and picked it up again.

As she wiped the sweat off her face, she felt eyes piercing her skull. Looking up, she saw Loki watching her with amusement written all over his features. "WHAT?"

He shrugged in response. "I find you adorable. Now, come along." Loki walked past her, exiting the room and motioning for her to tag along. "Adorable, my ass.", Kara muttered under her breath.
