21. 》Game Night《
"Yes, Director. I am keeping a close eye on them.", Steve said, leaning against the counter top as he spoke on the phone with his boss.
"And the newbie? Is she causing any trouble?", Fury inquired. The captain's eyes made their way to Kara, who was currently in a circle with the rest of the team as they played Truth or Dare. It was Game Night, as Tony dubbed it, and so far, things were seeming... okay.
The night was too early to tell. So far, they had played Pictionary, Jenga, Uno Cards among others. Vision was impressed at the number of board and card games Tony possessed. "I could not still fathom how you still manage to settle for these types of games."
"What? I'm old-school.", Tony replied nonchalantly as he spun the bottle, it landing on Sam.
"To be honest, sir? No, she isn't. Loki's doing a good job watching her.", the soldier remarked. His eyes shifted to Loki, who was in his usual grumpy mood beside Kara and Wanda, too occupied in his book than in the games they played.
"Huh. That's a first.", Nick added, slight amusement in his tone. "I will check up on you from time to time, Rogers. Make sure to always keep your line on."
"Yes, sir.", Steve uttered, and hang up. His eyes lingered on his teammates for a moment, smiling at how close they were starting to get over the three days that they spent at Tony's resort. He sat back down on his place between Sam and Natasha.
"All right, what did I miss?", the super-soldier asked, getting in a more comfortable position.
"Well, not much. Just learning that Sam once believed unicorns were real.", Tony replied, with caused everyone to burst into laughter yet again. Sam was beet red. "Ah. Hence, the stuffed toy in his duffel bag.", Clint piped up.
"I was six years old, you idiots.", Sam groaned, crossing his arms over his chest. He was unamused to find everyone still laughing. "Can we get back to the game, now? Please? Thank you."
"Okay, sourpuss. Spin the bottle, then.", Natasha teased. Sam grabbed the bottle rather roughly and spun it. "Hold on, what is a sourpuss?", Thor asked, his eyebrows furrowed together. Clint face-palmed. "Oh, brother. Here we go again-"
"Is it a type of animal that has a sour taste when you consume it?", the blonde god inquired further. Natasha was about to reply when Tony interjected. "Indeed it is, Point Break. Sourpusses are quite common actually. One is within us right now." His eyes shifted to Loki, who felt the man's gaze on him.
"Oh, do I amuse you, Stark?", Loki grimaced, setting his book down slightly. Tony shrugged.
The bottle slowed to a halt, with Steve at the end of its mouth.
"Ha! Truth or Dare, Steve?" The captain seemed to think about it for a minute, which got on Loki's nerves yet again.
"By the Norns, it's two choices." Loki whined, loud enough only for the ladies beside him to hear. They both turned their gazes to the raven-haired god, then to each other, fighting the urge to chuckle.
"I think I'd go for dare on this one.", Rogers finally answered, catching Sam off-guard a bit.
"Dammit, I thought he was going for truth.", Sam muttered under his breath. An idea popped up in Tony's head, and his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Uh-oh. This isn't good.", Rhodey commented. They all watched as Tony crawled his way to where Sam was sitting, and whispered in his ear. When Tony finished, Sam laughed out loud.
"Good one, Tony!", Sam mused, giving the billionaire a high-five. Steve sighed. "Okay, now. What's the dare?"
"Captain America...", Sam trailed off, a huge grin on his face. "... I dare you to say f**k."
Everyone's eyes widened at his dare, with Loki looking up from the book he was presently engrossed in.
"No. I don't like this dare. Change it.", Steve answered, a stern look on his face.
"No can do, Capsicle. A dare's a dare.", Tony interjected, smirking at him. The captain gave him the dirty eye.
"Come on, Cap. We won't tell. Besides it's only us.", Wanda butted in, encouraging Steve. The others agreed. Steve let out a big sigh.
"You guys are the worst. F**k.", he ultimately gave in, earning cheers and applause from the Avengers. Even Loki joined in. "Hey, you got Reindeer Games to snap out of his book.", Tony noted, making everyone smile at the god. Loki rolled his eyes at this.
Steve groaned as he spun the bottle, its end now pointing at... Kara.
"Ugh, finally! Now, for the good stuff.", Natasha expressed, letting her arms support her head as she winked at Kara.
"Okay, Kara. Truth or dare?", Steve asked, looking quite giddy, compelling a certain god to scowl at him.
"Um...", Kara thought, feeling quite pressured by the stares she was getting from the rest of the group. "Truth, I guess."
"Yes! What did you like about Loki when you dated?", Tony practically sprang up from his seat as he asked the question. 'What's were heard around the room, and Loki stiffened at the inquiry. A blush crept its way to Kara's cheeks. She clearly wasn't expecting this.
Clint looked at Tony questioningly. "Hey, you're not supposed to ask-"
"Yeah, I'm supposed to ask the question, Tony-" "Kara, you don't have to answer the question-" "Tony's just being the ass he is-"
"His character.", Kara cut all of them off, bowing her head and rubbing her arm nervously, causing silence to fill the room. Loki's head snapped towards her direction. "I- I liked his character above everything, I guess.", she admitted, shrinking in her seat.
The Avengers watched as Loki cleared his throat and bowed his head, his face turning a faint shade of red. Everyone exchanged knowing glances.
"Awwww.... that's so adorable!", Wanda giggled, clutching on Vision's arm. It was the android's turn to get flushed.
"Okay, okay. My turn.", Kara fought the butterflies in her stomach as she spun the bottle quite faster than she intended. Soon, it's end landed on Thor.
"I will choose the dare!", the God of Thunder boomed, his head held high. Kara pondered on it, until a thought crossed her mind.
"I dare you to give the biggest hug to a person of your choice.", she stated, her eyes swiftly glancing to the god beside her, who had his nose buried back in his book.
Thor smiled widely and stood up, taking the opportunity to embrace his brother in his arms tightly. Loki angrily tried to fight him off, but his older brother was much stronger than him. Tony and Sam quickly snatched their smartphones and took pictures of the Asgardian princes.
"Oh, this is going on my Insta.", Tony said. "You're damn right."
"Brother, I am truly sorry. Please do not be mad at me anymore.", Thor mused, his grip on his brother as firm as ever.
"Your affection disgusts me, brother. Get off!" Loki cursed under his breath, but the blonde god wouldn't budge. "I would if you forgive me."
"In the name of Valhalla, if that's what it takes to get your hands off me, then so be it!", the younger brother wailed, looking absolutely embarrassed. Thor seemed contented with this, so with one last squeeze, he let Loki go. The God of Mischief glared daggers his way and fixed his attire with a huff.
Thor gave a thumbs-up and mouthed words of gratitude to Kara as he returned to his original place.
"When will this pathetic excuse of a game end?", Loki mumbled, rolling his eyes at the sight of his brother grinning at him. Steve looked at his watch. "Hmm, Loki's right. We've been playing for how many hours now."
"Did you just agree with me?", the God of Mischief asked in disbelief. Steve cocked an eyebrow.
"Yeah, we need to think of another game. How about 7 Minutes in Heaven?", Clint suggested, making some of them to cringe in disgust. Tony seemed rather enthusiastic with the idea.
"I am quite familiar with this game. Jane and I played it often.", Thor stated, winking at his brother. Tony stood up and hurriedly left the room, much to the confusion of the rest of the team.
He came back shortly after with some pieces of paper rolled up in his palm. "Okay, Point Break. Since you're the last, I am giving you the privilege of choosing the lucky pairs.", Tony said, extending his hand to Thor.
Thor giddily selected two paper rolls and opened them. "Natasha and Rhodey.", he read out loud. Wolf-whistles echoed throughout the room, with his best friend breaking into a nervous grin. Natasha stood up and shrugged, getting inside the closet.
"Come on, Rhodes. Do not be a sourpussy.", Thor teased, making Sam and Clint burst out laughing. Rhodey fake-laughed, and followed the female agent, shutting the door. "Correction, it's sourpuss, but whatever.", Clint added.
The God of Thunder selected another pair. "Ooh, this is interesting. Steve and Kara.", Thor stated, grinning widely. His eyes traveled to his younger brother and gave him a suggestive glance. Kara was flushed, since she had never engaged in this type of game in her teenage years. Steve, being the gentleman he is, got up on his feet and reached for her hand. Loki was tempted to use his seidr and flick his hands away.
"There's a spare room at the back there.", Tony called out, placing his arms behind his head and reclining in the sofa. As the pair walked out, Kara heard Thor utter two more names.
"Ah. Loki and Wanda are next." Kara could practically hear Loki's eyes rolling, but she felt her stomach suddenly sink at Thor's words. Vision, on the other hand, had a vaguely defeated look on his face.
"Stop being ridiculous, Kara. Don't tell me you're actually starting to like him?"¸her conscience scolded her. Kara shook her head, as if to shake off her thoughts. Steve looked as awkward as she did when they reached the spare room Tony spoke of.
"I have to be honest, I have no idea what to do.", Rogers broke the silence, earning a chuckle from the woman with him. "Same here."
"Why don't we just... talk? I'd like to get to know you better, as my teammate.", Steve suggested, leaning on the wall for support. Kara smiled, mirroring his actions. "I'd like that."
Meanwhile...
Loki was scowling as they headed to another room the entire time. Thoughts of Kara alone with Captain America certainly bothered him, and he was doing a very poor job of concealing it. Wanda watched his every move, and couldn't help the snickers escaping her lips as the God of Mischief absentmindedly opened the door and held it for her.
"Loki, that's the restroom." The raven-haired god groaned loudly and slammed the door shut, proceeding to the door beside it. He opened it to reveal a storage room for some of Tony's tinkering tools.
As he shut the door behind him, Loki turned around abruptly and stopped Wanda from opening her mouth. "To be perfectly clear, Maximoff, I have no intentions of performing acts of intimacy with you and partake in this stupid Midgardian game-"
"An idea popped in my head, and I have a strong feeling you will like it.", Wanda cut him off this time, taking an interest in her newly-polished nails. Loki scoffed at her statement. "Mortals rarely have anything to say that catches my interest." "Well then, you're going to consider me an exception.", Wanda retorted, causing Loki to squint his eyes at her.
Wanda grinned and moved closer, with the god making one step back.
"Now..."
