20. 》Come Around《

After the two Asgardian brothers' quarrel, they remained in their own quarters for the rest of the day. The other members of the team, including Kara, kept themselves busy by either chatting with each other, cooking food, playing some games in Tony's game lounge, or watching some movies.

Kara had to admit that she was beginning to enjoy their company. She felt them slowly reach out to her as the hours ticked by. Maybe the Avengers weren't so bad, after all.

It was around 7PM when Thor finally left his room. He still had the same stoic expression on his face, but when his eyes landed on Kara, he immediately softened. The young lady, along with Wanda and Natasha were currently sprawled all over the living room, playing some cards. Kara on the floor, Natasha dangling off the couch, and Wanda sitting with her legs crossed beside the agent. When Wanda saw the God of Thunder make his way to where they were, she nudged Natasha's arm, who then tapped Kara's shoulder.

"Lady Kara, may I speak to you for a moment?", Thor asked. The ladies looked at each other, and Kara nodded, setting down her cards. "Wait for me.", she muttered to them.

Thor and Kara walked towards one of the corridors. They both stopped once they got some privacy.

"I would like to sincerely apologize for what happened earlier. I was being reckless and-"

"Ssh. It-it's all right, Thor. I'm okay now.", Kara cut him off. Thor shook his head.

"It irritates me to admit that Loki was right. I think only of myself at times. I truly am sorry for that incident, Lady Kara. I want you to know that I do not desire any harm to come to your way.", he added. Kara gave him a small smile and nodded.

"Apology accepted, God of Thunder.", Kara answered, a chuckle escaping both of their lips. Thor's smile faded when his eyes glanced at Loki's room. Kara followed his gaze, and frowned slightly.

"I do not like it when we fight. If our mother were here, she would disapprove of our behavior. Well, above all, mine.", the blonde god spoke. Kara hesitated to touch him, but settled on patting his back for comfort.

"Loki will come around. He is your brother, after all.", Kara assured him. Thor smiled slightly. "I do hope you're right."

Soon, it was time to eat dinner. "Okay, I'm cooking everyone. So be ready to have your mind blown.", Tony spoke up, earning eye rolls and sighs from the team.

"Mhmm, yeah. Whatever you say, Tony.", Clint remarked, causing Rhodey to snicker. Tony turned around and cocked an eyebrow.

"What is that supposed to mean, Barton?", Tony challenged as he wrapped an apron around his torso. Clint shrugged and replied, "I'm just saying, maybe I know better recipes than you do."

'Ooh's were heard in the dining room. The two men engaged in a staring competition, one doing a power pose while the other had his arms support his head. "Ha. Well, in that case, Agent Barton...", the billionaire threw an apron his way, to which Clint caught nonchalantly.

"... Get over here. We'll see who's better." Clint scoffed and tied the apron around his waist swiftly, standing up and making his way to the kitchen to join Tony.

"How typical.", Steve commented, rolling his eyes. Everyone gathered around the table, waiting for whatever the pair could concoct. Well, all except Loki again. Thor got up from his seat and walked towards his brother's room.

"Loki...", Thor called out. There was no answer. "Brother, come out. It is the time for supper-"

"Leave me be, Thor.", Loki replied, cutting him off. Thor sighed and turned around, only to be met face-to-face with Kara.

"No?", she asked, to which Thor shook his head at. Kara paused for a moment, debating whether or not she should knock on her ex-lover's door. Thor took this as a sign to leave. "I'll come back when Stark and Barton are finished.", he mused.

Kara tapped on Loki's door. "Loki?", she sounded unsure. She leaned in closer, and heard some shuffling on the other side. "Loki, I know you're in there.", she added. "What do you want?", he replied, a hint of bitterness in his voice. "I want you to come outside. Dinner's almost ready.", she answered, a little bit enthusiastic that he was conversing with her.

Just a little bit.

"I am not in the mood for supper.", Loki stated. Kara wasn't having it, though. "No. Come out now, Loki." Again, silence. An idea popped in her head.

"Hmm, I wonder what Fury would say if he knew you weren't keeping a watchful eye on me like he ordered?", she uttered, her tone slightly teasing. After a few groans, she heard footsteps make their way to the door. A faintly disheveled God of Mischief greeted her, with furrowed eyebrows. Kara smiled at this. "That's what I thought. Come on."

As they headed to where the rest of the team was, a mouth-watering aroma began to fill their nostrils. It made Kara's stomach churn. They found everyone sat comfortably around the table. As they approached, the chatter slowly dissipated, eyes now on Loki as he grumpily took a vacant chair and rested on it. Kara found herself taking the seat next to him.

"Make way, make way. The chef has arrived.", Tony piped up, strutting his way to the table with plates of food in his hands. Being the perfectionist he is, he decorated his dishes in a manner that made it look like it fell from the heaven.

"Wow.", Sam remarked, all team members gaping at the food set in front of them. Rhodey could feel his taste buds itching for a bite already. "Wait, where's-"

"The chef may have arrived, but the master is here now, children.", Clint followed soon after, a set of dishes on his hands, as well. His plates of food looked as exquisite as Tony's, which had the rest of the team even more shocked.

"In all my years of knowing you, never had I seen you cook this... complex.", Natasha commented, awestruck at the hidden talent her partner possessed. This put a smug grin on Clint's face.

"As appearances go, yours is... tolerable.", Tony sassed, causing Loki to cock an eyebrow. "It's the taste and quality of the food that will set ours apart.", he added. "I agree. Now, can we please dig in? I'm f**king starving.", Sam interjected.

"Hey!", Steve exclaimed, making Sam roll his eyes.

Everyone began eating. However, when Kara noticed Loki was simply playing with his food, Kara gave him a slight nudge under the table, causing Loki to turn her way. She pointed to his plate using her eyes, and Loki huffed as he took a spoonful of his meal in his mouth. He accidentally glanced at his brother across the table. Thor smiled at him softly, to which Loki responded with an eye roll.

"So...?", Tony and Clint asked in unison, sounding equally expectant. As their friends happily chewed their food, they remained unaware of their cooks' hopeful stares. Tony and Clint exchanged glances and shrugged. "This is oddly good.", Vision broke the silence, earning nods and grunts from the team.

"Dang, Tony. Why couldn't you cook like this back at your place?", Rhodey whined as he gobbled up his plate.

"Good night, everyone. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow.", Steve advised his friends as they parted ways to their own rooms. As Loki made his way to his room, Thor caught up with him, holding on to his shoulder.

"Brother, I-" "Not now, Thor. I desire to be left at peace as of the moment.", Loki replied sharply. Thor looked heartbroken, but nodded and removed his grasp on his younger brother.

Before Loki could close the door to his room, he saw Kara by the living room, fixing the pillows. The God of Mischief was puzzled at this, so he approached her. "What are you doing?", he asked, startling the young lady. "I- I was making the couch cozy so my back wouldn't hurt in the morning.", she replied, resuming her work. Loki furrowed his eyebrows together, and got ahold of her wrist.

"Why on earth are you going to sleep here? Do you not like to lay down in my bed?", he pressed further. Kara bowed her head and fiddled with her fingers. " I just...", she sighed. "I thought you wanted to be left alone." Loki pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I was speaking to Thor.", he explained. As his eyes bore into Kara's own, his expression slowly hardened. "But if that is what you wish, then I will leave you be.", Loki added, turning around and heading to his room.

"You do seem to forgive him so easily.", he spoke once again.

TheGod of Mischief shut the door rather loudly and plopped down on his bed, a furious look in his eyes. "Why was I even brought to Midgard, when not a single soul accepts me for who I am?", he whispered, jaw clenching. Thoughts of his past attack on New York started flooding back, so did glimpses of Thanos and The Other, watching his deadbeat body plead for mercy from their tortures.

He was too caught up in his memories that he failed to hear the sound of his bedroom door opening and closing, to feel the bed sink and relax. The only thing that brought him out of his thoughts was the sensation of lips touching his cheek, and a faint whisper of "thank you for saving me". Loki stiffened at her actions, and when he shifted his position to meet her gaze, her back had already been turned to him.

Loki couldn't stop his lips twitching up to smile. Maybe he was appreciated, after all.

"You're welcome."
