Chapter 5
The entire afternoon already passed and the search for Y/N has proven fruitless. Pyrrah and the rest of her team were searching through every posible store, cafe and restaurant, asking everyone about the H/C haired boy, but nobody was able to help them. Pyrrah was very frustrated because of it, but a single ring of her scroll has her attention immediatly. she takes out the small device and opens a message from Yang, who happens to be in some sort of club. There is a picture involved in the message, showing the man in question with a few bottles of alcohol around him.
Pyrrah:" Guys, it's Yang. I think she found Y/N in some sort of club."
Ren:" Does anyone know which one?"
Jaune:" I think I overheard her talking about Junoir's or something. Maybe that's where they are."
Pyrrah:" But isn't that downtown Vale? Why would he go to such lengths?"
Ren:" I don't know, but we should hurry before something happens to him."
So the four make their way towards the direction of the club. Pyrrah is shook by this revelation and wants to save her brother from harm. Of course she knows that that sounds hypocritical, but the young girl has a sence of justice for everyone. Pyrrah doesn't give up on anyone, not even after the worst things that could happen in the world. Yet the redhead knows that she's part of the people who caused this situation in the first place. Biting back some tears, she begins to run faster, keeping up with the rest of her team.
----------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile Y/N sits at the bar of the club and drinks another cup of whatever alcohol the bar could offer. He isn't one to be knocked down easily, so this doesn't bother him yet. He even ignored the fact that Yang snapped a picture of him to send to Pyrrah. The boy just wants to drown out his problems for the rest of the day, so any fun or distraction is welcome. The owner himself is standing in front of him too, looking slightly worried.
Junior:" Boy, you've downed about seventeen shots already and still didn't flinch once. You came here to forget something, right?"
Y/N:" So what if I am? It's none of your business though. You've got a whole dance club to run...I hope the money you make keeps you happy."
Junior:" Okay buddy, what's wrong? I know I don't look like the type of guy to talk to, but I always have an open ear for my guests."
Y/N:" Even if they trash the place like Blondie? Or when some other criminals demand your help?..I know some stuff about you, Junior. But don't worry: I won't tell anybody."
Junior:" But you were a cop before, weren't you?"
Y/N:" That doesn't mean I'll report every single criminal I see or meet. Geez, have a little faith in me...Oops, wrong words there. Faith isn't anything to me, so...keep doing what you're doing."
Junior just sighs and walks away, minding his own business while keeping his eyes on the dance floor and every guest. It's often that he has people with trouble at his bar, but not in the way Y/N is behaving. The boy is colder than absolute zero while keeping a blank poker face. The young huntsman-in-training has spent every last minute of his free time of the current day there and rejected everyone's try to start up a conversation or asking him to dance. That and everything else of course doesn't go unnoticed by the blond of Team RWBY who just skips over to him with a small smile on her face.
Yang:" Hey there, Y/N."
Y/N:" No, I don't wanna dance. No, I'm not buying whatever the hell you're selling or something..."
Yang:" Geez, talk about being moody. What got you to ground zero?"
Y/N:" 'Family Matters' as everyone else would call it. The so-called Mistrali heroes have graced our academy with their presence today and...well, they didn't take kindly to the things I said. Every word I spoke was the truth though..."
Yang:" Bummer...And now you're sinking in a storm of booze? What kind of therapy is that?"
Y/N:" The kind of therapy that lets me forget all the chaos and pain I had to endure. A single damn day has been turned upside down in just a matter of seconds."
Yang:" Then why don't you enjoy yourself for some time? Dancing can get your mind to another level and talking to different people may lighten up your mood."
Y/N:" Thanks, but first: I can't dance at all and second...people aren't really my favorites. Also I like my mood how I like my soul: dark."
Yang:" You're hopeless. You're just as dark as blake sometimes."
Y/N:" Oh haha. Trying to be funny, are you?"
Yang:" What? It's not a complete cat-astrophy yet. Anayways, cat-ch you later, Y/N."
So Yang leaves him alone for now, but the peace doesn't stay long as another voice calls to him. This one grabs his attention by the first letter he hears and he regrets being out in the open, visible for everyone. It's Pyrrah who walks over and grabs his shoulder to turn him around. The foul stench of alcohol reaches her nose, but she can take it as she looks at her older sibling.
Pyrrah:" What's the matter with you?! You're running from your problems, instead of reuniting with the people who love you!"
Y/N:" Love...Is love supposed to make me bleed?! Or break my bones?! Or make me terrified of talking to anyone?! I don't know what love is supposed to be, but if I ever felt it, it died the second I was expelled from the famous Nikos family...Really Pyrrah, you've gotta be kidding me if you think I would ever accept F/N and M/N as my parents again. And you?...You're famous. You're a warrior, a top student in almost all of your classes and you won that god forsaken tournament repeatedly...You even have a team to spend time with, you have friends to be with. People adore you, they wanna be like you, they want you for everything. Magazines, radio, podcasts, interviews...Even that stupid cereal nobody buys anymore....You can call me whatever you want, but do not ever again refer to me as your brother!"
Pyrrah:" No...I won't accept that. You were born into the family and our blood flows through your veins. I've spent years, trying to figure out what went wrong and now that I am so close, you reject me? Your own sister?!"
Y/N:" I have abandoned your damn family name! I got rid of the red hair, I got rid of the green eyes and I burnt every family photo we ever had! You didn't watch me crumble. You never had the pressure on your back like I did. I was supposed to be nothing, I was a puppet, a slave and a punching bag...but never a member of the family. So why should I reunite with the ones who hate me?"
Pyrrah:" Because I never hated you! Each and every day, I sneaked out of my room to look through photo albums, trying to find evidence of you. I saw the blood on the stairs when M/N went down to clean. I saw F/N looking at drawings that weren't mine and I was in the room that was supposed to be yours. I always wished for a brother!"
Y/N:" Tell me that with a straight face some day...Now leave me alone before I hurt someone. Oh and your little squad? If I see any of you near my dorm, I will not hesitate to rip off your arms and shove them down your throats..."
Ren:" Did he just...threaten us?"
Y/N:" No, dipshit. It's a natural fact!"
Pyrrah is about to snap, but decides to let it go for now. She isn't usually the person to lash out at anyone, but personal things always tug at her heart. She takes one last glance at Y/N who just downs another shot, before she and the rest of the team go back to Beacon. Nora's occasional jokes don't help at all as well as Jaune trying to calm the redhead spartan down. Of course the argument doesn't go unnoticed either, but every kind of chatter dies down when the scraping of wood can be heard. Every pair of eyes wanders back to Y/N who has a piece of wood in one hand and a switch blade in the other. His expression shows that he's more pissed off than before.
Y/N:" If I hear any of you mentioning what just happened, I will smash this spike through your skull! You hear me?!"
People just nod and turn away as fast as they can, keeping their distance from the boy. Y/N wants this chaos to finally stop haunting him, yet every day he has reoccuring day dreams. Even a single shower is enough to make him tense up violently because the warm water reminds him of his own blood dripping and flowing down his own body. Many of his scars are visible when he changes clothes or prepares for training. He then just scoffs and gives Junior about fivehundred Lien for the drinks. With heavy steps, Y/N walks out of the club and finally feels some of the booze kicking in, blurrying his vision slightly. His feet carry him through the empty streets of Vale, making no mention to anyone that he may need help soon.
----Timeskip---
It's midnight now, so everyone should be at their dorm, at home or at least some place safe already, but that doesn't apply for everyone. There are only a few individuals who wander around at night and one of them is still the same boy from earlier. After emptying his stomach behind a tree, Y/N finds himself in the Emerald Forrest again. He has his katana in hand already, expecting a fight when suddenly a bird lands in front of him. Not really caring about the exact specifics, Y/N tries to scare it away, but the bird just hops back.
Y/N:" Stupid animal. I don't have to put up with you..."
???:" I wouldn't be so sure, kiddo."
Now instead of a bird, there stands a man. Blackish hair, red eyes, grey clothes and a torn red cape. His presence feels familiar, but Y/N can't remember the person at all. Maybe it's the alcohol, but the stranger looks to be coming closer.
Y/N:" Who are you?"
Qrow:" Name's Qrow. Qrow Branwen. Can't believe that I find you, almost wasted and on your own, out in the woods. What brought you here, buddy?"
Y/N:" I could ask you the same damn thing, birdbrain."
Qrow:" Hey, I'm scouting the area for anything suspicious. Maybe killing Grimm from time to time...Now for you."
Y/N:" That doesn't concern you....At least it shouldn't...You don't have a reason to know. Or maybe...maybe you do. What were we talking about?"
Qrow:" Gosh, how much did you drink?"
Y/N:" About three bottles before and then...seventeen or maybe even twenty shots.......Though that wasn't te best idea I've had...Anyway, family business...Not the best of things to go through....I suppose you know about me."
Qrow:" Know about you? I reasoned with old Oz to let you into Beacon. Look, it's not really my specialty, but family should matter to you..."
Y/N:" You sound like everyone else I've met so far. Now leave me alone. You shouldn't stick your nose in another person's business.....Farewell."
Qrow:" Yeah...for now."
So the two go their seperate ways as well with Qrow just disappearing while Y/N is walking towards Beacon. He missed the last bullhead already, but getting there on foot should do the trick as well. Also some fresh air may help with his stomach. Knowing he'll regret drinking this much, he just enters the courtyard and looks at the map of the academy again, trying to find his way back to his own dorm. Right now, Glynda is doing her sheduled routine of making sure everyone is back in their dorms. So it's not really a surprise when she finds Y/N outside.
Glynda:" Mr. L/N, what are you doing out here at this time?"
Y/N:" Wow, finally someone who says my real last name. Thank you, professor...Ans I'm out here because I got back just a minute ago after I missed the last bullhead...Call me crazy, call me stupid, but I'm here..."
Glynda:" Have you been drinking? You don't seem to be in the best condition."
Y/N:" I can handle myself. Thank you very much."
And so Y/N leaves her speechless, just as much as he left Qrow. Nobody could cross his path now because all the others are already asleep. He finally gets back to his own room, opening and then locking the door again after walking in. The curtains are still closed and his belongings are all where he left them. Y/N walks to the bathroom washing out his mouth from the horrible taste of whatever he drank. The small dizziness he feels is a side effect, yet it doesn't matter to him right now when he walsk to his bed and lays down to sleep. It doesn't take muc for Y/N to fall asleep and so he drifts into another scene.
--- Dream ---
In the dream, Y/N is back in Mistral in the house of his 'parents'. It looks the same to him, only being worn down the slightest. A window is open at the right side of the building and Y/N walks to it out of curiousity and makes sure to stay out of sight. In the room he sees F/N and M/N looking at a younger Pyrrah who holds some kind of book in her hands. She seems so innocent, yet Y/N knows that will change soon.
Pyrrah:" Mom, dad...who is Y/N Nikos?"
He grimaces at the mentioning of this name, but decides to keep listening.
F/N:" I knew this day would come, but Pyrrah dear...please don't hate us for what we're about to tell you...You see..."
M/N:" I was pregnant before you were born...Your father and I expected a child to be born soon and so we went to the nearest hospital when the time came. The doctors told us everything was alright and the child was healthy, but...it wasn't...Y/N would've been your brother, but he never survived the process.......I'm sorry to tell you this."
Both Pyrrah and Y/N couldn't believe what they are hearing, both shocked for different reasons. Pyrrah because she is told that she never had a brother to begin with and Y/N because F/N and M/N would tell such lies to a young girl. He knows he had reasons to despise this family and his hate is only fueled by these dreams. But that's what they are. Dreams. They couldn't be real now, could they? Y/N decides to believe not since Pyrrah mentioned earlier that she saw pictures of him and went into his room. It hurts. It hurts to know that a normal family could be so torn up within such a short amount of time. He decides to walk away from the house, the scene changing to the day when Pyrrah graduates from Sanctum. It's the last few minutes after the ceremony when she walks over the her parents again. They wait until everyone else is gone, so they could finally talk about the real story behind their family.
Pyrrah:" So for years, you told me that Y/N didn't survive M/N giving birth...Yet on all these pictures in the photo albums, there he is, celebrating birthdays and holidays as good as he can...Then it stopped at some point. Why?"
F/N:" Mostly because of his semblance...The rest was the inability to fulfill simple tasks. Y/N couldn't swim, he couldn't read properly and he never unlocked his aura so far...He was weak and yet dangerous, so we decided to not let him be in public..."
Pyrrah:" Then why did you hurt him? Why was there always blood on the floor and on your hands?"
M/N:" We honestly...don't know. We felt like it was necessary to keep him in check...Y/N was a good boy, but we never believed in him. We thought and told him that he was weak and not fit to be the heir to our family...When you were born, we were sure you could take his spot and you did it very well...We love you, Pyrrah...We just couldn't let Y/N be a bad influence on you."
Then everything fades to black and the voices die down.
--- Dream End ---
When morning comes around, the sound of an alarm clock rips Y/N out of his sleep. His head is pounding and he feels like crap, instantly regretting the alcohol abuse. Then again, he's used to abuse, no matter if physically or mentally. He just knows he needs to freshen up, so he slowly gets up and walks into his bathroom, taking a shower. Ever since coming to Beacon, Y/N has felt pain again and again, even when tracing his scars. Every single one represents a different day of despair and yet, he doesn't succumb to it. There are a thousand good reasons to give up on him, yet Y/N tries to be the one to find the one reason against it. He made his own mind and heart bleed out repeatedly. He stands defiant in this great big ugly world, believing that chaos is his one true calling.Fists are easily raised high whenever he has the time to celebrate morbid victories, depending on how the fight goes.
