Chapter 8- Margaret's POV

I bit back a small sigh of relief when I entered the trailer again and bit back a small smile when I heard Admiral whicker in greeting. "Hey, Bud," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "How are you doing? Are you ready to get out?"

He snorted and nodded, and I bit back a small chuckle, amused. He shook his head, snorted, and flicked his tail impatiently, and I knew that that was his indication that he was ready to get out.

"Ok, Bud," I said, biting back a small chuckle while I slowly nodded. "Let's get you out of here." I grabbed his lead rope and Sprite's as well, knowing full well that he wouldn't go without his support animal. "You too, Sprite."

Sprite whickered and nodded, and I bit back a small snort while she flicked her tail and started to kick the trailer with a soft bang, bang, bang.

"Hey, now," I softly scolded while I narrowed my eyes and scowled, biting back a small smile, amused. "Don't act like Gallant."

Sprite stopped kicking at the trailer while she looked at me with wide innocent brown eyes. She blinked and blinked again, and I bit back a small snort before I shook my head.

"Very funny, Sprite," I said, biting back a small sigh while I shook my head again. I walked over to my horses and hooked the lead ropes to their halters. "I'll come back to get you, Bon Bon," I said, and Bonnie flicked her tail and seemed to ignore me, not even caring that she was last.

I bit back a small snort and shook my head while I finished hooking them up to their lead ropes and disconnecting their ties that held them to the trailer. "Let's go, Buds," I said and clicked my tongue before I walked out of the trailer with Admiral following Sprite. "Let's go see your new home."

Admiral snorted and flicked his tail from side to side. He shoved his nose towards Sprite's rear to get her to move faster, and my Shetland squealed in annoyance and flicked her head, tossing her mane.

"Hey," I scolded and pulled on Sprite's lead rope to keep her from lowering her head and bucking at him because I did not want a fight inside the trailer. "Do not do that, Sprite. We are in a tight space, and I do not need to be road kill for dinner."

"You won't taste that good if you were," May exclaimed outside the trailer, and I rolled my eyes and scowled. "Is everything ok in there, Mama?"

"Everything is fine, May," I replied and continued to lead them out of the trailer. "Travis, do you still have control over Dono?" I asked once we were close to the entrance of the trailer. I grabbed Sprite's lead rope tighter and kept my eyes on her because I knew that she was going to act like a demon.

"Yes, we are good here," Travis said. "I have his collar."

"Good," I said with a small sigh of relief, my shoulders sagging just a bit. "Thank you."

"Uh huh."

I led them out of the trailer, and as soon as all of Sprite's feet touched the ground, she jerked her head back and whinnied her high pitch whinny that had the other dogs become restless and whining to come out of the truck but did not because I hadn't told them that they could.

"Holy shit," Bryson muttered under his breath, and I mentally cringed because I knew I should have warned Bryson about Gallant when Gallant whinnied and snorted, and I had a feeling that he moved around both Bryson and Blake. "Easy, Boy. Easy."

"Gallant, settle," I warned. "Is everything ok over there?" I asked and tried to get Sprite to move, but she refused to do so. "Would you come on, dumb butt?" I asked while I pulled on her halter. "There is no need to act all high and mighty and let everyone know that you are the queen."

Sprite tossed her head and whinnied again before she reared and tossed her head a second time, rolling her eyes. She flicked her tail and shook her head, and I couldn't help but snort, amused, because it looked like she was saying, "bitch, I am the queen."

"Ya, ya," I said and pulled on her lead rope again, hoping that she wouldn't rear again. "Let's go, Your Majesty, so that I can get Bon Bon out and then get everyone settled into their new home. We are losing daylight."

Finally, my Shetland snorted and shook her head before she started to walk to where Gallant was waiting for us and Admiral followed her like usual, not being a pain in the ass.

Thank God it wasn't him this time... I thought, breathing a small sigh of relief while I looked at my draft horse to see that he was looking around with his ears pricked and the pinks of his nose showing while he took deep breaths of air, getting acquainted with his area. That would have been one heck of a mess.

"Everything is fine over here, Mommy," Maybell said with a small wheeze in her voice, and I had a feeling that she was trying hard not to laugh and whatever was going on over there. "Gally wanted to come and play with Sprite and Admiral, but they were able to stop him."

"Aren't you supposed to be helping, Little Girl?" Blake asked teasingly, and I had a feeling that he raised an eyebrow in question. "I mean, you were over there laughing at us while we struggled to get him under control."

"Maybell," I warned when we got closer to them, and she instantly whipped her head so fast that I was afraid she had given herself whiplash. I scowled and narrowed my eyes while I looked at her, trying but failing to keep the amused smile off of my face. "Are you being good?"

She stared at me with wide innocent eyes, her face flushed while she tried so hard not to laugh

"Maybell," I wanted and narrowed my eyes while I scowled, and she blinked and blinked again, looking very innocent, even though we both knew that she wasn't. "Are you?" I asked and tried but failed to raise an eyebrow in question.

"No, Ma'am," she said and shook her head, and I held back an eye roll, biting back a small snort. "I am not behaving, but I also did not do anything wrong."

"Mmmhmm," I said, not believing her. I cleared my throat and pressed my lips into a thin line. "Here," I said and handed Sprite's lead rope to her, and she took it from me while I tossed Admiral's lead rope over his shoulders, knowing full well that he wouldn't go anywhere, especially since Sprite was being taken care of by Maybell. "Take the lead rope, and hold her while I get the others," I said before I looked at Bryson and Blake. "Are you two ok?" I asked and cocked my head while I studied him.

"Yes, we are," Blake said with a small chuckle in his voice. He looked at Sprite and then at Admiral before he looked at me again. "Well, that is an interesting couple," he said, and I bit back a small snort while I slowly nodded. "Are they always like this?"

"Yes," I confirmed before I cleared my throat and patted Sprite's neck, biting back a small chuckle. " So, Admiral will behave himself if he is next to Sprite. I am going to get Bonnie, and that's going to all of the horses that I have with me."

"Good, that means we will be able to get the dogs and cat out of the truck," Maybell said while Blake had opened his mouth to say something. "And will we be able to see where we are going to stay, too?" She looked at Bryson when she did that, giving him her best wide innocent look in her eyes. "Please?"

Bryson hesitated before he slowly nodded. "Yes," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet, breaking his eye contact with my daughter while he looked at me. "I will show you where you all are going to live for the time being."

I bit back a small sigh of relief before I slowly nodded and offered him a tight smile. "Thank you," I said, breathlessly, biting back a small smile. "I do appreciate it, Bryson." I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "Now, excuse me, I am going to get Bonnie out of the trailer so she can join this fun."

And with that, I turned around and went back to get Bonnie from the trailer, leaving the three horses behind and under the care of both Bryson and Blake.

"Wait! Where is Clyde?" Blake asked with an exclamation in his voice.

I bit back a small smile, my heart aching when I thought about the horse that had been Bonnie's partner in crime and, in fact, was named Clyde. "He's galloping somewhere safe," I said while I looked toward where both Bryson and Blake were standing before I looked away again, clearing my throat.

My daughter looked at me before she looked at Bryson and Blake, who looked super confused about what I had said. "Basically, he is dead," Maybell said while she shrugged and grimaced. "He's been dead for a year now."

"Oh." Blake paused and cleared his throat, shifting on his feet. "I'm sorry, Margaret. I didn't know..."

"It's ok, Blake," I said before I cleared my throat and licked my lips, biting back some tears because it still stung even when it didn't need to. "It's ok. I understand, and I know that you knew."

And with that, I walked the rest of the way to the trailer and into it in silence, praying that Clyde was happy and not in pain somewhere else.

Oh, God...

Forgive me.
