Chapter 15- Bryson's POV

We exited the pastures before we were hurt by the four horses that started to run faster around the pasture, and we turned around to watch them run with manes flowing through the air and ears pinned to the back of their heads.

"Is this normal?" Blake asked, his voice barely above a whisper while he watched Margaret's horses, and she nodded in confirmation with a small hum in her voice. Awe and wonderment filled his voice, and I couldn't help but give him a weird look while I tore my gaze from the four horses that were running around the field.

"Yes," she said and nodded, watching her horses with something in her eyes that I didn't know or could describe. "This is normal. You should see the dogs join them. It's a sight to see." She bit back a small smile and tucked her head closer to her chest while she watched them. "Or the whole herd."

"Were your horses allowed with other horses?" I asked, and she hummed and nodded in confirmation. "Including Gallant?"

"Yes," she said and chuckled with another small nod. "However, there have been a few fights against some of the male horses, which is why he isn't allowed to be out with them unsupervised."

"But he is out there with Admiral," Blake said. He looked at the horses before he looked at her with a small frown on his face, and worry for the bigger horse flashed through his eyes. "Are you worried that he will do something to him?"

Margaret chuckled and shook her head, and a small smile appeared on her face. "No," she said before she cleared her throat and grew serious. "I am not worried about him being hurt. He is a part of Gallany's herd and has been that way for years."

She got a small far away look in her eyes, and her eyes became filled with pain and sadness. "I think Admiral had been the one to help Gallant out of his shell so that is why I am not worried about them at all."

"What happened to him?" Blake asked and cocked his head to the side while he studied her. "You said that you rescued all of them?"

Margaret bit back a small smile and slowly nodded. "He was abused and didn't take kindly to people, not even me until we got him with Admiral and after that he got sick, so he had to be away from him for a while."

"How long ago was it?" I asked before I watched the horses run around some more before Admiral seemed to fall to the ground. My heart leapt into my throat, and I started to go into the pasture but was stopped by Margaret.

I scowled and instantly turned to look at her, not knowing why she had stopped me when her horse could be hurt, especially since he had fallen to the ground. "W-"

"He's fine," she said and shook her head, biting back a small smile while she tucked her head closer to her chest. "He is about to roll because he seems to like his area. The other horses will join him in rolling down in the dirt soon."

"Are you sure?" I asked and scowled before I narrowed my eyes, studying her, and Margaret bit back a small laugh and slowly nodded in confirmation.

"Yes," she confirmed and looked at the horses before she turned to look at me with warmth in her eyes. "I have seen this before multiple times. I know the horses like the back of my hand. They're all fine."

I pressed my lips into a thin line and looked at them again, but I didn't say a word while I watched as the other three horses fell to the ground and started to roll as well.

Margaret breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded while she watched them. "Good," she said before she cleared her throat and licked her lips while she grew serious. "Now, where are the water troughs?" she asked and cocked her head to the side while she studied me, raising an eyebrow in question. "I think it would be best to get that done now."

"We can show you," Blake said. He looked at me when I scoffed and rolled his eyes before he looked at her again, smiling, even though it was more like a grimace. "Or I can show you so that Mr. Grumpy Pants over here can do other stuff that pertains to the farm." He rolled his eyes and scowled playfully at me, and Margaret bit back a small laugh and nodded.

"That will work," she said with a small laugh in her voice. "Thank you." She cleared her throat and looked at me, tucking her head closer to her chest. "Thank you for everything you have done so far for my family and me, Bryson," she said, with a small hum in her voice. "We do appreciate it, a lot more than you would ever know."

"It's fine," I said and shrugged, pressing his lips into a thin line. "Blake will finish helping you get set up with everything else. I am going to check on everything else like he should be doing."

"And I will do it as soon as I am done," Blake said. "You do not have to do what I need to do, Big Bro." He flashed me a small smirk and a wink, and I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line.

"I can also help if you would like," Margaret offered and bit back a small smile. "Or do you want me to start watching over the kids?"

"No, you are going to nap after you make sure that your kids and dogs are settled and before you do something else," Blake said and shook his head before I could answer him. He flashed me a small smirk and a wink before he looked at her. "We can do the rest of this, and you can start working tomorrow."

I shot him an annoyed scowl and narrowed my eyes but didn't say a word.

Margaret stayed silent and looked at me, growing hesitant. "Is that ok with you, Bryson?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper and filled with hope and longing. "Is it ok if I can take a nap after I get the rest of my group settled in before I do anything else?"

Blake moved away from her and started to nod with wide eyes, silently telling me to tell her yes. He stopped when she looked at him and grinned innocently before she looked at me, holding back an eye roll.

I bit back an annoyed sigh and shook my head, rubbing the bridge of my nose and pursing my lips in annoyance. "Fine, whatever," I said coldly. "You can go ahead and take a nap after you are done getting everything settled for you, your kids, and your animals. After that, we will talk about what you need to do and what you need to expect. Is that understood?"

Margaret breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded. "Good, thank you, Bryson. I do appreciate it. I really do."

I forced a smile on my face before I slowly nodded. "That's fine," I said. "Excuse me."

And with that, I turned away and walked away from them, setting my jaw and pressing my lips into a thin.

Oh God, help me...
