Whale of a Time

Here's a little Sea Beatles AU thing in memory of Cynthia Lennon, who passed away on this day in 2015. Cynthia's a blue whale and John's a humpback.

Cynthia Lennon was gliding away at the bottom of the coral reef, it was her favourite spot to relax. She remembered when he father used to take her on swims through all sorts of different reefs, they were more rare nowadays with all the trash people kept dumping into her home, but she tried to clean up as much as possible. But for the largest animal in the world, it was tough for her to clean every last bit of rubbish from the reefs, but she could push the larger messes out of the way without a problem.

Today was much different however, dozens of other sea creatures seemed to have been here before her. "Oh? What are they all doing here?" She thought as she swam past the others, then she heard a voice coming from the tip of the reef. It sounded like someone was singing, it sounded heavenly to her.

"Oh my, sounds like a Humpback's song. I never got to hear them sing before." She smiled, approaching the singing whale.

John was belting his heart out, it was almost a year since he lost his mother to a whaling ship crashing into her. It was about to hit him but she managed to get in the way and save her son, at the cost of her own life unfortunately. John had been mourning ever since he had any memories of her, the only way he could cheer up was to sing, he always did in memory of her.

"Hm, I hear someone swimming this way.." He thought as he went up for air. Looking underneath him, he saw the biggest and most beautiful blue whale he had ever seen. "Wow.. A big blue, they're so rare now.. I must be the luckiest guy around." He thought.

Looking up, Cynthia swam up to John. "Oh.. I overheard you singing, I thought you sounded lovely."

"You.. You really think so? I alway go here whenever I need to cheer up.. Singing is my way of letting out my feelings."

"Feelings? What's wrong?" Cynthia asked, seeing the smaller whale tearing up.

"My Mum... She passed away near here.. A ship crashed into her.. Should have been me.."

"Oh, I'm sure she would have said the exact same thing if that happened.. She wouldn't want you to be upset every day, I'm sure she would want you to be happy.."

"But how can I do that? She's gone, and I'll never be able to see her again! How can I cheer up without her.. She's the only family I ever had.."

Feeling bad for her new friend, Cynthia hugged him and stroked his hair. "You don't have to forget about her completely, but she would want the pain to stop. It'll hurt less, but you know, she isn't really gone. Not if you keep her memory with you."

"Her.. I loved her so much, she did everything she could to make me happy."

"And I'm sure she would want that to continue, she might not be here to do it physically, but your fond memories of her will do that just fine."

Looking up, John slowly smiled. "How do you know all that will Happen?"

"I.. I lost a parent too, my father passed from a grave illness. But I knew I wouldn't ever leave him as long as I remember him."

"Oh.. I'm sorry for your loss miss.. Umm.. I didn't get your name."

"I'm Cynthia Powell, I didn't get yours either.."

"John Winston Lennon. Wait forget I said Winston.. I hate that name.."

"Aw, I think it's a nice name." Cynthia smiled.

"You.. Do? I just thought there's no reason to have three names when two are enough.."

"Aw, you're very cute Johnny. Oh! I mean John.."

John's smile widened as he heard Cynthia call him that. "It's okay.. That's what my Mum used to call me."

"Well, I'll be sure to keep calling you that then." Cynthia smiled. "Can I hear you sing some more?" She asked.

"Of course! Here's one for Mum, I call it, Julia."
