Chapter Eight › Phone Calls and Papers
Ivy's POV
Benedict peers his head around the door and simpers at me slightly.
"Hi, sorry, can I... come in?" I placed my hands around my hips and lift an eyebrow at him.
I take a deep breath, remembering those eyes.
"Yes... Of course..." He smiled again and walk in, opening his mouth, but I stop him.
"What?"
"The door? It won't close itself." I smirk and Benedict bows his head, shutting the door.
"Okay?" Nodding, I simper.
"Okay." I sigh. "What did you want Benedict?"
"Ben, and... I have some news." I frown.
"News? Are you leaving?"
"Not quite. No. No, I wouldn't... leave... um..." He reaches into his suit jacket for a piece of paper and holds it out to me. "For you." I take it off him, scanning it.
"Hilton and Jones..." Recent clients. "How-"
"They had rang, asking for you, you weren't it... left a message and I rang back."
"And... you got this?" I smiled, kind of impressed actually. Saved me the trouble.
"Yes." Benedict stared at me for a moment, literally. I waved my hand in front if him and he quickly snapped out of his dreaming. "Hilton and Jones. They want to throw a masked party, in honour of their recent friend who has won a competition."
"Anything about location."
"They didn't really mind."
"Okay... I'll have to ring them back-" Benedict points at the sheet.
"Phone number is there for you too."
"Thanks..." He smiled and slowly backed away.
"I will..." His back hit the door and he jumped. "... Aha... see you... later."
"Benedict?"
"Yeh?" He opened his mouth.
"Don't be so nervous and..." I point at my coffee. "Did you get me this?"
"Yes, black, two sugars. As instructed by Luc-" I narrow my eyes. "By... my instinct."
"Okay, well... thank you." I smiled at him and he bowed.
"My pleasure. Good morning." Finally, he leaves, ensuring he shuts the door.
I sit down and take a sip.
Not bad...
Benedict's POV
I've... been... sat... here... for... two hours...
Nothing.
Nada.
Nilch.
All I do it play with my pen in my hand, hoping that the phone would ring. But it wouldn't.
It didn't want to.
I know it didn't.
When I say that, I feel a vibration in my pocket and take out my phone.
Tom calling...
Smiling, I put the phone go my ear.
"You all right Tom?"
"Are we not using code names over the phone?" I chuckled.
"No one can see us."
"No one can see you seeing them."
"Where are you?" Tom coughs.
"Bloomin' heck it's freezing and, I'm just on my way over to where Chris is staying in the meantime. Meet him up for a cuppa... You?" I shrug.
Like he could see that.
"At work." Tom whistles and I frown. "What?"
"With... Ivy right?" I lean onto my desk.
"She's just my boss."
"She's your boss allright." I glare at the computer as if it was him.
"Don't... put words in my mouth..."
"Anyways Benny, do you want that Christmas I promised?" I smile.
"Of course... William." I smirk.
"I have a Christmas present for you. In fact, I'll need you to receive it now." I lift an eyebrow.
"What is it?"
"Remember how you told me that you wanted to spend more time with me? Be like me?"
"Yeh. Why?" I hear a shuffle of a paper and Tom clears his throat.
"Dear Mr-" He paused. "... Hiddleston." And raised it again. "Thank you for recommending Mr Cumberbatch for an audition. We would love to see him." AUDITION?!
"What did you do Tom?"
"I put you in the spotlight, auditions! You've got talent Ben, put it into good use. Years in drama school shouldn't be worth nothing." I squeezed my hair.
"I dunno..." Tom sighs.
"I'll send you the deets. You can or you don't have to take it."
"Okay."
"Cool Ben, well... have a good day. Good luck with the girl. I better see Chris before he hits me with his hammer." We both laugh.
"Your brother shouldn't hurt you."
"Well, I did try and kill him and his friends so..." I smile.
"Good luck, see you soon."
"Bye Ben." I put the phone on the table.
Then, I leaned back.
Should I take it?
I probably was never going to get it anyway. Maybe trying is a good idea...
While thinking, I see a shadow tower over me.
It was Lucy.
"Hey stranger." I lift both of my eyebrows. "Never mind. I need a favour." She bits her lip.
"What's up?"
"Requires a coffee, however." I smile.
"Okay, cool." Lucy smiles.
"At about four?" I nod.
"Sure." Lucy then walked away giggling.
What on earth was she up to...?
Well, I'd find out in... four hours.
