Chapter Twenty-Five: Mystery Solved

Twilight and all affiliated characters are the property of Stephanie Meyer. I do not own any of the aforementioned characters except Beth and the plot of this story (that is, should it stray from the original Twilight). This story is for entertainment only and is not part of the official storyline. I am not in any way, shape, or form benefiting financially from the publishing of this story on this site and am very grateful for Mrs. Meyer's creation. Besides, if I did own Twilight, I'd be eating at a five-star Michelin restaurant for dinner.
Much later once Edward had dropped her home, she felt infinitely better. Whether it was because he wasn't directly in her personal space again or the fact that she was home after such an... eventful day... she wasn't sure. But that all disappeared in a fell swoop once she saw the note stuck to the fridge to say that her sister and dad went down to the reservation to watch the game at Billy's place so she'd have to fend for herself.
Sure, she wasn't going to tell anyone what Edward had told her, anyone with eyes could tell that he doesn't tell everyone all willy nilly. But she'd assured him after a few hours of just talking, that his secret would be safe with her, she'd just need time to get used to the idea that one of her friends was a blood sucking demon (well, vegetarian demon, according to him). A weight had eased off of his shoulders then and after talking it through, Beth could say that she'd maybe take a few days at most to completely warm up to the idea that all the fucking fairytails were probably true. She shuddered.
"Even the boogeyman..?" she'd hesitantly asked but Edward smiled and shook his head, no.
"I haven't seen him, at least."
But that did jack shit to make her feel better, face paling and shoulders slumping.
Now she'd wondered if that prickling feeling she'd gotten used to every now and again at home and at school had something to do with the supernatural. God, she hoped not.
Taking up the house phone, she dialed Renee's number, fingers trembling just a smidge.
"Hello?"
"Hey, baby! How are you?" Immediately, despite her mother's probable involvement with the Counselor at school the other day, the newly developed tension smoothed away like the ocean on hard rock and she sighed, slumping against the wall by the kitchen.
"I'm fine, I just wanted to call you to talk to you."
And talk they did, about basically everything since the last conversation they'd had after she'd gotten attacked. From how the dance went and why she didn't go (minus the Bella & Angela stuff) and what Edward was like (minus the vampire stuff) and eventually, Beth wound up in her room, clothes stripped and lying in her underwear and a tank top.
Her mother's voice cooed over the phone, "Are you sure you don't want to come to Jacksonville for a weekend? To give you guys a break from all that going on?"
Eliza shook her head, before remembering that her mother couldn't see her, "No, I want to stay in Forks."
"Okay, baby."
Before she could find another topic to distract her mother from ploys to get her down to Florida, she heard a creak from her window and jumped up in fright, eyes flicking to the offending sound.
She let out a shriek, dropping the phone as she came face to face with the guy who literally just dropped her off an hour ago with a deer in the headlights expression on his face.
"What the fuck?" she whisper-yelled, hands grabbing the phone that she dropped. "Mom, can I call you later please?"
And before Renee could respond, she'd pressed the end button before confronting the creepy guy half-hanging outside her window.
"What the fuck, Cullen!" She shrieked, hands grabbing her comforter to preserve her modesty, but Edward was looking everywhere but at her.
"What the fuck are you doing?"
"I'm really sorry-,"
"You think saying sorry is going to fix you sneaking into my room like a peeping tom? Jesus Christ."
"It's not like that okay?"
"Oh my god," she paced her bedroom floor. "Are you the one who's been opening my window at night?"
"...it only happened one time.."
"And I bet you're the sneaky motherfucker who took up the chicken broth when I was sick, weren't you?" She was enraged, face reddening from frustration and anger. Edward only wished the ground would swallow him whole.
"..."
"I swear to god, Edward Cullen, you invade my privacy like that again and our friendship is done! Do you hear me?" she shouted at the sheepish vampire.
"And get out!" She yelled, pointing outside.
But she didn't have to tell him twice. Because in the moment she blinked, the boy was gone and she rushed over to slam her window shut, one hand still clutching her comforter to the lower half of her body until she drew her curtains closed.
Flopping onto her bed, she groaned loudly.
What a creep.
A/N: That's not what he was wearing or anything but I just found this situation so hilarious and added this photo in because I couldn't resist. Enjoy <3
