a real doodle dump??? what is this 2016

when I was in eighth grade I had this magical thing called motivation and I used to do these crazy pmv things with whole songs and all my characters. Now I just do them in my head but somehow I managed to sketch this one out... probably helps that it's... one verse...

Brave Songs is a great song but I also thought it fit Natrina well because she's the most tired mom in the entire universe. As you can tell I gave up/eased up after the first Natrina, but I do think it actually looks like the "maternal" Natrina I started out with. Nat used to be more effeminate/nurturing, similar to a less corrupted version of what Angel is, but then TGD came in and I thought the more analytical/cold Natrina who ended up slowly growing into a maternal archetype after thousands of years of Dealing With Aislyn's Shit was just as good an arc if not a better one. Her design just never reflected that and now I think it does... a little better? I like that I finally decided on what her horns look like even if they'll need fine-tuning. The "hooks" are for Maximum Plant Carriage and the grooves are actually common on older Canii but they also resemble wood and I like that. I like that a lot.

More songs? More songs. I did this one in ten minutes while listening to Reqiuem of Sunshine and Rainbows, one of my favorite Homestuck songs... that's Ashleap in the middle, with Pyrewing on the left and Lunarshine on the right. A lot of the symbolism treats Ashleap as the sun in said book but she's also the "light" to Pyrewing's "fire", and only together are they the sun as a complete Hope x Determination set. Lunarshine completely ignores this because she's Lunarshine, and no symbolism will get in the way of her and her wife's beautiful... uh... fusion?

Iris! If you've been keeping up with TSBS, which I recommend, you know that Iris and Torch are currently sitting around in their little corner of paradise. Originally I hadn't even intended for the artificial simulations and now the containing units to be a thing because thematically they don't actually tie into anything? This was the same problem I had with DR:R, things happened that would eventually advance the plot but the end story just wasn't coherent or meaningful, it was just "things happened because they happened in a world with no clearly defined boundaries". I'm hoping to work all this into some kind of theme even if the one I'm currently going for has nothing to do with all this fakery. What even.

As an artist and author who puts a lot of time and attention into each of my characters, here is a character I made completely on a whim because I really liked this song but it didn't fit any of my characters just right (song is Hollow Moon by AWOLnation btw). The bro on the left is a different character who got roped into this shit because someone needed a demon...

girl on the right is (probably from the Extraordinary universe) a demon summoner. She summoned her first at the age of ten and demanded that the guy on the left, working name Apollyon, kill someone for her. Apollyon was immediately like "that's not really up my alley sorry literal ten year old" but felt bad for her and her lack of parental guidance so the two of them struck up a deal. 

As an ancient, primordial demon, Apollyon's first brilliant idea was to run away from home. About ten years later, the two of them now live in a strange relationship where Apollyon will occasionally possess this girl (no name yet) but in general they tend to share consciousness, so it's not really clear where one begins and the other ends. Apollyon still takes contracts but she's his "favorite client" and most people just want someone to possess them while they're assassinating someone so they'll have the guts to go through with it (see the last Extraordinary drabble, Cool and Unusual Punishment). I really love these two for some reason but I don't know what to do with them

Von from Spirits Rising in his "alien" form. The first goal was to differentiate him from Sentients, because that's what Spirits Rising started as, just a shitty Dreamland/Earth crossover, but then with the advent of cherubs I also needed to draw his ferret-based design away from them. I threw in some oriental dragon influence but he is still very much a work in progress.

So I was bored today in school and finally had my sketchbook back, so I was wondering what a full-Chronaverse AU where a bunch of picked-at-random characters were Amalgams (with human psychology, hence Mary can feel fear and Shiloh can feel emotion at all) in the general teenage range, and were then promptly dropped on an island.

I don't know. Really it's just for the designs... I really wanted to draw a bunch of the beast/amalgam/human forms for a bunch of my characters who don't have two of the three. Mary even gets a nice redesign because this is Mary with human psychology, a Mary who thinks "maybe doing dumb shit is a bad idea" after she loses her arm doing dumb shit. 

This Red doesn't get possessed (by Red I mean Pokemon!Red... never give your characters the same name guys it ruins your life) by the voices and hence is generally a better person, and I love his chubby Pikachu beast form. The best forms don't have to be Earth animals, they just generally are because I wanted to stop them from going the 'amalgam form but smaller' route. I also don't just want to give all the characters who ARE already non-humans the obvious so no, Nat doesn't get a Canis beast form and none of the warriors get cats. Reasons. I have to have at least a little bit of fun with this.
